Custom Brownie Boxes

from £0.25 a boxPriced per job · low minimums

Custom brownie boxes are shallow, flat boxes that hold squares or a whole slab without crushing the crackly top, printed with your branding so the box looks as good as the bake. Many are sized to fit through a letterbox, which is how a lot of brownie businesses now reach customers across the country.

Made for a Bake That Hates Being Squashed

A good brownie has a shiny, paper-thin crust and a fudgy middle, and both are fragile. Stack them too high and the top cracks; let them slide and the edges smear chocolate across the box. A brownie box solves this by being shallow and snug. The squares sit in a single layer, the lid sits just above them, and the walls stop them moving sideways.

The flat shape suits brownies perfectly because they are already flat. A box with an inside depth of 30 to 45 mm holds most brownie squares, blondies and traybakes with a little headroom for toppings like pretzel pieces, cookie crumbs or a drizzle. Deeper boxes are only needed for stacked layers or loaded brownies with marshmallow or caramel piled on top.

Shape matters as much as depth. Square boxes suit grids of squares, while long rectangular boxes suit rows of fingers or a single slab. If you sell both, it is often worth having one square letterbox box and one longer parcel box rather than trying to make one shape do everything. Bakers who sell mixed boxes of brownies and fudge usually size the grid as on our fudge boxes with small dividers.

Letterbox Brownies and Posting Nationwide

Brownies by post took off because they travel well when packed properly and they make an easy gift. The letterbox format is the key. If the outer box stays within 25 mm deep, 250 mm wide and 353 mm long, it can be posted as a large letter, which is cheaper and means it lands on the doormat even when nobody is home.

A 25 mm outer depth leaves a little over 20 mm inside, which suits thinner brownies cut into neat squares. If your bake is thicker, you can either slice it lower or move to a small parcel box with a deeper wall. We check both options against your recipe before you commit.

Think about the outer journey too. A letterbox box travels in sacks with other post, so a sturdy E-flute corrugated board protects better than thin folding card. For a premium feel on the outside, the corrugated can be lined with a printed white sheet, so the box still looks crisp on the doormat.

  • Letterbox mailer: up to 25 mm outer depth, ideal for four to nine slim squares
  • Small parcel box: 40 to 50 mm deep for thick, loaded brownies
  • Counter box: shallow tray with lid or window for shop sales
  • Single slice box: a small sleeve or tuck box for one square

Keeping Brownies Fresh and Neat Inside

Brownies should be individually wrapped or sealed in a bag before they go in a cardboard box. It keeps them moist, stops the chocolate touching the board and makes the box easier to reuse. Many bakers use clear heat-sealed bags or printed greaseproof squares for each piece.

Inside the box, a card divider grid holds each square in its own cell so nothing shifts in the post. A lining sheet of greaseproof paper adds a clean look, and a printed card on top with flavour names or a short note finishes the presentation. Food-contact grade board is available on request if any part of your bake will rest directly on the card. Grids that separate flavours are shown on the bakery boxes with fitted dividers page.

Sizing Custom Brownie Boxes

Cut your squares to their usual size and measure one, including the wrapper. Then decide the layout: four squares in a two by two grid, six in a two by three, nine in a three by three, or a slab in one piece. Multiply the square size by the grid, add 2 to 3 mm per divider wall and a few millimetres of clearance, and you have the inside size.

If your squares vary slightly by batch, size for the largest. A brownie that only just fits will be squeezed by the dividers, while one with a millimetre or two of space slides in easily and looks just as tidy.

Write down your final sizes and keep them with your recipe. When you add a new flavour or change your tin, you will know straight away whether the existing box still works, and reordering becomes a two-minute job rather than another round of measuring. Our guide to measuring bakes for a box explains how to allow for a domed top.

Designing a Box People Want to Photograph

A brownie box is often opened on camera, so the lid and the inside both matter. The lid carries the brand: a confident logo, a colour that suits chocolate (deep browns, creams, bright pinks and teals all work well) and perhaps a line about what is inside. The inside of the lid is a lovely spot for a flavour guide matching the grid below, so the customer knows which square is salted caramel and which is raspberry.

Matt lamination gives a soft, premium feel and photographs without glare. Kraft board suits rustic, home-baked branding. A small foil logo adds a touch of shine for gift ranges. Matt lamination, kraft and foil are compared in the print and finish options guide.

  • Lid: logo, brand colour and a short line
  • Inside lid: flavour map matching the grid
  • Sides: website and social handle
  • Base: storage and allergen notes, or a sticker area

Who Orders Brownie Boxes

Home bakers turning a side project into a business, bakeries adding a postal range, cafés selling brownies at the counter, and corporate gift companies sending treat boxes to clients all order from this range. Market traders use counter boxes with windows so passers-by see the bake, while online brands lean on letterbox mailers with full inside printing.

Event planners also order small single-square boxes as favours, printed with names or a date, and wedding cake makers sometimes use them for take-home slices.

Gift buyers are a big part of the brownie market, so think about a gift message option. A blank panel inside the lid or a small printed card slot lets customers add a personal note when ordering for someone else.

Check the Letterbox Depth With a Cut Brownie

Letterbox brownie boxes work on a single number: the outer depth has to stay at or under 25 mm to go through a door as a large letter. A brownie cut at 20 mm tall leaves room for the board; one cut at 25 mm does not. Cut a square from a typical bake, measure its height at the crackly top rather than the edge, and tell us the grid you want. If your bake is too tall for a letterbox, say so and we quote the small parcel box instead.

Send the square size, the grid, the depth you need and any artwork, and a custom quote arrives by email within one working day, with minimums quoted per job so a home baker can start small. The free proof shows the lid, base and dividers. Production takes 4 to 7 working days after approval and boxes arrive flat on free tracked delivery to UK mainland addresses in 2 to 3 working days; misprints or transit damage reported within 10 days are reprinted or refunded. Boxes for loaded brownies and blondies that need a taller lid are covered on the dessert boxes for taller bakes page.

Brownie Boxes Questions

What buyers ask before ordering brownie boxes.

Can brownie boxes go through a letterbox?

They can when the outer box keeps to large letter size, so no deeper than 25 mm. In practice that leaves room for slim squares cut a little lower than a café portion. For thicker bakes we suggest a shallow parcel box instead.

Should brownies be wrapped before boxing?

We recommend it. Individual bags or greaseproof wraps keep brownies moist and stop chocolate marking the board. They also make it easier to pack quickly.

Can I get dividers for each square?

Yes, we make card divider grids to match your layout, from four to sixteen cells. Each cell is sized to your wrapped square. Dividers stop the brownies shifting during posting.

How deep should a brownie box be?

For most squares, an inside depth of 30 to 45 mm is plenty. Letterbox boxes are shallower at around 20 to 22 mm inside. Loaded brownies with tall toppings need a deeper wall.

Can the inside of the lid show a flavour guide?

Yes. Printing a flavour map inside the lid that mirrors the grid is popular with mixed boxes. The flavour map goes through the press alongside the lid artwork.

Will chocolate mark the box?

If brownies are wrapped, marking is rare. A greaseproof liner adds extra protection for unwrapped bakes. Food-contact grade board is available on request.

Can I put a window in a brownie box?

Windows work well on counter boxes where shoppers see the bake. For posted boxes we usually advise against them, as film can crease and the window panel weakens a thin mailer. The proof shows window position.

Which colours suit brownie packaging?

Deep browns, creams and golds feel rich and classic, while pinks, teals and bright yellows feel playful and modern. Choose by your brand rather than the product. Matt finishes make most colours look more premium.

Can I order boxes for a slab as well as squares?

Yes, a slab box and a squares box can be printed in matching designs in one order. Each size gets its own proof. Setup is shared where possible.

What does a brownie box cost?

Simpler styles start from £0.25 a box, with the final price depending on size, board, print and quantity. We send a custom quote by email within one working day.

Can I order a small quantity for a market stall?

Yes. Minimums are low and set per job, which suits markets and pop-ups. You can reorder the same design whenever you need more.
