Custom Cardboard Dispenser Boxes
Custom cardboard dispenser boxes arrive closed like a normal carton, then open with a perforated front so customers can help themselves to snack bars, sachets, samples and small items at the till. We size them to your product, print every panel and make sure the tear-out opens cleanly first time.

Turning a Shipping Carton Into a Mini Display
Small, low-priced items sell on impulse. A packet of mints, a protein bar, a sachet of hot sauce or a sample of face cream rarely makes it onto a shopping list; it gets picked up because it is there, at eye level, beside the till. The problem is that loose items look messy and slide around, and most counter display stands need assembling, take space and get thrown away. A dispenser box solves this by being both the outer carton and the display.
The box is filled and closed at your packing bench, shipped like any other carton, then opened in the shop by tearing away a perforated panel. What is left is a neat tray with a printed header and sides that frame the product and hold it in rows. When it is empty, the retailer folds it flat and puts in a fresh one, so your branding is always on the counter.
For brands selling into independents, this matters a great deal. A shop owner is far more likely to give you counter space if your product arrives display-ready and takes seconds to set up. Larger counter units that hold several lines are shown on the counter display boxes for retail tills page.
Dispenser Styles and Openings
There are a few main ways a dispenser box can open, and the choice depends on the product and where it sits.
A front tear-out panel turns the box into an open tray with a raised back. A top-and-front tear-out leaves a lower tray for shallow counters. Pull-through slots suit flat items such as sachets, wipes and tea bags, which are drawn out one at a time. Some designs combine a lid that folds back to become a printed header card. Rolls of labels and tape use a slot of their own on the label dispenser boxes with tear edge.

Sizing Custom Cardboard Dispenser Boxes
Work out how many units you want in each box and how they should sit. Bars usually stand on end or lie in stacked rows; sachets stand upright in a single line; small boxes sit in a grid. Measure a single unit, multiply out the arrangement and add a few millimetres so items can be lifted out easily when the box is full.
Counter space is limited, so keep the footprint modest. A box that fits within about 200 by 150 mm sits beside most tills without crowding the card reader. Height matters too: the product should be visible over the front lip but not so high that the box topples when it is half empty.
If the box will also travel inside a larger shipping case, check that the dimensions stack neatly into that outer to avoid wasted space in transit. The guide to measuring a product explains how to allow for rows and a finger gap.
Board and Perforations
Most dispenser boxes are made from white or kraft folding boxboard for smaller items, or E-flute corrugated board for heavier products and longer journeys. E-flute is thin enough to print crisply yet strong enough to survive a courier network. White board gives the strongest colour; kraft gives a natural, artisan look.
The perforation is the most important detail. Too weak and the front falls out in transit; too strong and the retailer tears the box when opening it. We set the perforation to hold firmly but tear cleanly, and we add a thumb notch or printed instruction such as push here so staff open it the right way.
For products with a short shelf life, such as fresh snacks, think about a box that can be resealed. A tuck lid above the tear-out lets staff close the display at night or when the shop shuts, keeping dust and light off the product and making the box easier to move when cleaning the counter.
Designing Every Panel
A dispenser box is seen in two states, closed and open, so design for both. When closed, it needs product information, a barcode for stock control and handling marks. When open, the remaining back panel or header is the billboard: brand name, product name, price point space and a short message that makes people want to pick one up.
Inside print is a useful extra. As products are taken, the inside walls and floor become visible, so a pattern or message there keeps the display looking good even when stock runs low. Printing the inside floor with a reorder prompt, such as a phone number or website, helps retailers remember who to contact for more.
Keep the header clear of the area where products sit, so the brand name stays visible however full the box is. Finishes that keep the header bright under shop lighting are compared in the print and finish options guide.
Products That Suit a Dispenser
Snack and confectionery brands use dispensers for bars, lollipops, mints and gum. Condiment brands use slot dispensers for sachets in cafés and takeaways. Beauty brands put samples, lip balms and sheet masks by the till. Pharmacies use them for plasters, travel sizes and remedies. Hardware and phone accessory shops use them for small, high-margin items such as cable ties and screen cleaning cloths.
If your product is very light, add a weighted base card or ask the retailer to keep the box towards the back of the counter, so it is not knocked over when it gets near empty.
Dispensers are also useful at events and trade shows. A box of samples on a stand table looks far tidier than a loose pile, and the printed header does the talking while staff are busy with visitors. Once the event ends, any unused stock simply closes up again and goes back in the van. Items that need to be seen from the side rather than the front often suit the product display boxes with open fronts.
Count the Items Per Box, Then Check the Till
A dispenser box only works if it fits the counter it lands on, so before sizing it, find out how much space your stockists give you. Most tills allow a footprint of around 200 x 150 mm; anything deeper gets pushed to the back. Decide how many items you want to sell per box, usually 12 to 24, lay them in rows on a sheet of paper and measure the block. The front opening should expose about a third of the item height so customers can grip it without tipping the rest.
Send the item size, the count per box, the opening style and the quantity, and a custom quote comes by email within one working day. Minimums are low and priced per job, so a dispenser can be trialled with a handful of stockists first. The free proof shows the box closed and opened, production takes 4 to 7 working days after approval, and free tracked delivery to UK mainland addresses follows in 2 to 3 working days; misprinted or damaged boxes are reprinted or refunded if reported within 10 days. Taller products that stand up suit the pop-up display boxes with header cards instead.

Cardboard Dispenser Boxes Questions
What buyers ask before ordering cardboard dispenser boxes.
Will the front fall out during delivery?
No. We set the perforation to hold firmly in transit and tear cleanly when pushed. Thumb notches and printed instructions show staff where to open it.
Can the box carry a barcode?
Yes. We put a barcode panel on the closed outer for stock control and can add a separate one for the individual units if needed.
Does a sachet dispenser need corrugated board or will folding boxboard do?
Folding boxboard is enough for sachets, lip balms and other light items that sit on a counter. Snack bars and anything travelling through a courier network inside the dispenser suit E-flute corrugated, which keeps the front edge from bowing.
How many items should go in each box?
Enough to look full on the counter without the box being too tall. Most brands aim for a quantity that sells through in a week or two in a typical shop.
Can sachets be pulled out one at a time?
Yes. A slot dispenser lets customers draw sachets, stick packs or tea bags one by one while the rest stay neat.
Why print the inside of a dispenser box when it is full on arrival?
Because the inside shows more every time an item is taken out. A pattern, a short line of copy or a reorder prompt on the inner back panel keeps the box looking finished down to the last item.
Will a light product make the box tip over?
It can when nearly empty. A weighted base card or a lower profile keeps it stable.
Can you show me the box opened and closed?
Yes. The free proof shows both states so you can check the header, inside print and front panel.
How much do dispenser boxes cost?
Simpler builds start from £0.25 per box. The final price depends on size, board, print and quantity, and we quote by email within one working day.
Can I trial with a few shops first?
Yes. Minimums are low and priced per job, which makes a small trial run practical.
Can the box ship inside a larger case?
Yes. Tell us the outer case size and we will make sure the dispensers fit neatly inside it.
