Custom Cone Bottle Neckers

from £0.25 a neckerPriced per job · low minimums

Custom cone bottle neckers are printed card collars formed into a shallow cone that slips over the neck and rests on the shoulder of a bottle. They add a flash of colour at eye level on a crowded shelf and give you space for an offer, a recipe or a launch message without touching the main label.

Why a Collar Works Where Labels Cannot

The main label on a bottle has to last for the life of the product. It carries the brand, legal information and barcode, and changing it is expensive and slow. A necker sits on top of all that and can be swapped for every promotion. Run a competition one month, a recipe idea the next and a new flavour announcement after that, all on the same bottle.

Shape is the other advantage. Flat hanging tags flap around and can be turned to face the wall. A cone collar wraps all the way around the neck, so the message faces forward however the bottle is placed. It also sits higher than the main label, right where a shopper's eye lands when scanning a shelf of similar bottles.

Because the collar is held in place by its own shape, it needs no adhesive, which means it can be added or removed at the packing stage, at the warehouse, or even by shop staff as a promotion starts and ends. If you need a second format, our bottle neck tags can carry the same design.

Cone Bottle Neckers for Drinks and Condiments

Wine, spirits, craft beer and soft drink brands use neckers to share tasting notes, serving suggestions and limited releases. Sauce, oil, vinegar and condiment brands use them for recipes and pairing tips, often printed on the inside of the cone so the customer finds them when the collar is taken off at home.

Supermarkets and wholesalers sometimes ask suppliers for neckers during promotions, and independent bottle shops order them to flag staff picks. Event organisers and wedding planners use small cone collars on favour bottles with names or dates printed on them. For a multi-bottle gift pack the necker usually sits alongside a printed product display box on the counter, so the two designs should share a colour.

How the Cone Shape Is Made

A cone necker starts as a flat curved blank, rather like a slice of a ring. When the two ends are joined, by a locking tab or a slot, it forms a cone. The hole at the top is sized to the neck of the bottle and the wider bottom edge sits on the shoulder. Getting the angle right means the collar rests evenly instead of tilting to one side.

Bottle shoulders vary a great deal. A wine bottle has a gentle slope, a sauce bottle may have a sharp shoulder, and a craft beer bottle is somewhere in between. Send us the bottle, or at least the neck diameter, the shoulder diameter and the height between them, and we draw the cone to match. A test print on plain card before the full run is a sensible step for a new bottle shape.

Very tall, narrow necks on some spirit bottles need a deeper cone, while squat sauce bottles need a flatter one that barely rises above the shoulder. The cone is cut the same way as die-cut shapes for stickers, from a flat sheet with a curved outline.

Card, Coatings and Print

Neckers are printed on a sturdy card that holds the cone shape without creasing. Coated card gives sharp, bright print suited to photography and bold colour. Uncoated textured card suits craft spirits, wine and artisan food brands where a tactile feel matters. If the bottles will be chilled, choose a laminated or varnished finish so condensation does not soften the card.

Both faces can be printed. The outside carries the hook, such as a bright headline, a flavour name or an offer. The inside is a good place for longer content: a recipe, a cocktail method, terms of a promotion or a QR code leading to your website. Foil and spot gloss add a premium touch for gift and launch editions. The coated boards used here are listed in the board and card types guide, with a note on fridge condensation.

  • Coated card for bright, photographic print
  • Textured card for craft and artisan brands
  • Varnish or laminate for chilled bottles
  • Foil or spot gloss for premium releases

Designing for a Curved Surface

Artwork on a cone wraps around and narrows towards the top. Text near the top edge becomes compressed, so keep the main message in the wider lower band. Repeating a short message twice around the cone makes sure it reads well from any angle.

Keep wording short and bold. A shopper sees the necker for a moment before deciding whether to pick up the bottle. A headline of three or four words, a clear image and a single call to action usually beat a long paragraph. Save the detail for the inside.

Colour placement deserves thought as well. The base of the cone sits close to the top of the main label, so pick colours that complement the label rather than clash with it. Many brands pull one accent colour from the label and use it boldly on the necker, which ties the two together while still marking the collar as something new. Print a draft at home, cut it out and roll it; the free proof shown flat and rolled then confirms what the paper test suggested.

Fitting Neckers at Speed

Cone neckers can be supplied flat or pre-formed. Flat neckers save storage and shipping space, and staff lock the tab when fitting. Pre-formed neckers can be dropped straight over bottles, which helps when a large batch needs fitting before a promotion starts.

For bottles with caps wider than the neck, check that the top hole will pass over the cap. If it does not, a slit at the top allows the collar to open slightly as it goes on and close again around the neck.

If neckers are fitted in a warehouse rather than on your own line, label each carton clearly with the bottle type and promotion name. Mixing up collars for two different bottle shapes is an easy mistake when several promotions run at once, and it shows straight away on the shelf as tilted, badly fitting cones. Promotions that run in supermarkets often need the neckers delivered with shelf-ready display boxes, so the bottles arrive dressed.

Measure the Neck Where the Collar Will Rest

A cone necker sits at one point on the neck, and that is the measurement to send: the diameter where the shoulder starts to widen, not the diameter of the cap. Measure it with a tape or a strip of paper wrapped round and marked. Then give us the cap width, so we can make sure the cone's opening passes over it, and the height from that resting point to the top of the cap, which sets the cone's height.

With those three numbers, the number of designs and the quantity of each, we send a quote by email within one working day from £0.25 per necker. The free proof shows the artwork on the flat cone shape and as it will look once rolled, which is the only way to judge text on a curve. Neckers are printed and cut in 4 to 7 working days after approval, delivered tracked and free to UK mainland addresses, and faults reported within 10 days are reprinted or refunded. Brands that need a flat version for slim bottles use hanging bottle neck tags instead.

Cone Bottle Neckers Questions

What buyers ask before ordering cone bottle neckers.

How does a cone necker stay on the bottle?

The narrow top hole fits around the neck and the wider base rests on the shoulder, so gravity holds it in place. No adhesive is needed, which means it can be added or removed easily.

Which bottle measurements do you need for a cone necker?

Three: the neck diameter where the collar will rest, the widest part of the cap, and the height from that resting point to the top of the cap. A photo of the bottle beside a ruler helps us check the shoulder angle. If you have several bottle shapes, send all three figures for each.

Will the necker fit over a wide cap?

If the cap is wider than the neck, we add a small slit at the top so the collar opens as it slides over and closes around the neck.

Can I print a recipe inside the cone?

Yes, the inside face suits recipes, cocktail methods or promotion terms. Customers see it when they take the collar off.

Are neckers suitable for chilled drinks?

Choose a laminated or varnished finish so condensation does not soften the card. Uncoated card can lose its shape in a fridge.

Can neckers be supplied pre-formed?

Yes, we can supply them formed into cones ready to drop over bottles, or flat to save space. Flat neckers are locked by hand when fitted.

Can a cone necker carry a tear-off voucher?

Yes. A perforated tab at the bottom edge of the cone can carry a code or a money-off offer, and it tears cleanly without pulling the collar off the bottle. Keep the voucher text on the outside face so it can be read on the shelf, and we mark the perforation line on the proof.

Can one order cover several bottle shapes?

Each shape usually needs its own cone template, but they can be quoted together. Designs can share the same artwork style for a consistent look.

Is a cone collar better than a hanging tag?

A cone collar wraps around the neck so the message faces forward from any angle, and it does not flap or twist. Hanging tags suit gift bottles where a string adds charm.

How soon can neckers be ready for a promotion?

Production takes 4–7 working days after proof approval, followed by free tracked delivery to the UK mainland in 2–3 working days. Allow time for fitting before the promotion starts.

Can I personalise neckers for wedding favours?

Yes, small cone collars can carry names, dates or a monogram. Short runs are quoted per job.
