Custom Candle Dust Covers

from £0.25 a coverPriced per job · low minimums

Custom candle dust covers are the small round card lids that rest on top of a jar candle, keeping dust, hair and fingerprints off the wax until the first light. Printed with your logo or scent name, they turn the plain top of the jar into one more place to show off your branding.

What a Candle Dust Cover Actually Does

A freshly poured candle has a smooth, glossy top that marks easily. On a shop shelf, people pick jars up, sniff them and put them back, and every one of those moments is a chance for a thumbprint in the wax or a speck of dust settling on the surface. A dust cover sits inside the rim or across it and takes those knocks instead, so the candle reaches its owner looking the way it did when it set.

Covers also help with scent. They do not seal the jar like a metal lid, but they slow the fragrance escaping into a stockroom, which matters when you store many different scents together. Many makers use them on candles that will later go into a box, as a second layer of protection, while others sell jars with only a cover and a label for a lighter, simpler presentation. For a matching set, the same artwork also works on our printed candle labels.

Measuring Your Jar for a Snug Fit

Getting the size right is the whole job. Measure the inside diameter of the jar rim, as in our measuring guide, if you want the cover to drop slightly inside and sit on the wax line, or the outside diameter if you want it to rest on top of the glass like a coaster. Jars that look identical from two different suppliers often differ by a few millimetres, so measure the actual jars you pour into rather than a catalogue figure.

Tins and ceramic vessels work in the same way. For tins with a lip, a cover cut just inside the lip stays put even when the tin is tilted. If you sell three or four vessel sizes, we can cut a set of covers to match each one and print them in the same design so your range looks consistent on the shelf.

If your candles are poured slightly below the rim, an inside-rim cover can rest directly on the wax with no gap, which stops it sliding around when a box is turned on its side in the post. Pour height varies a little from batch to batch, so leave a millimetre or two of clearance around the edge rather than cutting the circle to the exact inside measurement.

  • Over-rim covers that rest on the glass and act as a printed top label
  • Covers with a small pull tab so customers lift them out without touching the wax
  • Covers with a centre slot that lets the wick stand upright through the card

Card Weights and Surface Finishes

Dust covers are cut from rigid paperboard thick enough to lie flat without curling; the board types explained guide lists the grades. A heavier board stays perfectly round even in a warm shop window, while a slightly lighter board is fine for covers that sit under a screw-on or wooden lid and never get handled. Uncoated board gives a soft, natural feel that suits minimalist brands, and a coated board holds fine detail and rich colour for illustrated scent names.

Finishes add the last touch. Matt lamination feels velvety and resists fingermarks. Gloss makes colours pop and wipes clean. Foil blocking in gold, silver or copper looks excellent on a small circle because there is very little else competing for attention, and a blind emboss of your logo is a quiet detail customers notice when they pick the jar up.

Printing Ideas for a Small Circle

A dust cover is often the first thing a shopper sees when they look down at a display table, so treat it like a miniature label or the lid panel of a candle box with a window. Some brands keep it to the logo alone, centred and simple. Others print the scent name and a few fragrance notes so the shopper does not need to turn the jar around. You can print the underside too, with a thank-you message or care instructions such as trimming the wick before each burn.

If you sell a large scent range, one base design with a different colour per fragrance is an easy way to help customers find their favourite quickly. It also helps your own team when restocking, because the scent is visible from above without lifting every jar.

Keep text large enough to read at arm’s length. A circle loses a surprising amount of space to its curved edge, so the proof marks a safe area inside the cut line where small lettering will not be trimmed.

  • Logo only, centred on a plain or textured background
  • Scent name with top, middle and base notes
  • Colour-coded designs for each fragrance in a collection
  • Printed underside with burn care tips or a short welcome note

Who Uses Printed Dust Covers

Small-batch candle makers are the biggest users, especially those selling at craft markets where jars are handled all day. Home fragrance labels supplying gift shops add covers, and often matching wax melt boxes, so their stock survives being unpacked, arranged and rearranged by retail staff. Wax melt brands sometimes use matching circles on their pots, and spa and salon owners who sell their own candles add covers so the product looks finished on a reception counter.

White-label candle suppliers find covers useful too. A plain jar can be personalised for each client simply by changing the printed cover and the side label, without changing the vessel or the box.

Subscription box curators and hamper companies are another group worth mentioning. They often buy candles from several makers and want them to look as if they belong together, so a printed cover in the hamper brand colours is a simple way to tie mixed jars into one gift without relabelling every vessel.

Measure Three Jars and Send Us the Smallest Figure

Glass jars from the same supplier vary by a millimetre or so, and a cover cut to the biggest rim will not drop into the smallest. So take three jars from a batch, measure the inside diameter of each rim and send the smallest number. If you want an over-rim cover that sits on the glass like a coaster, measure the outside diameter the same way. Tell us if the cover sits under a screw or wooden lid, since that decides the board thickness, and ask for a pull tab or wick slot if you want one.

With those figures, the number of designs and a rough quantity per scent, a custom quote arrives by email within one working day, from £0.25 per cover depending on board, finish and run size, with minimums quoted per job. The free design proof shows the artwork inside the cutting line so you can see how much room the logo has. Production runs 4 to 7 working days after approval and free tracked delivery reaches UK mainland addresses in 2 to 3 working days. Makers who box their jars for gifting usually order candle boxes printed to match in the same job.

Candle Dust Covers Questions

What buyers ask before ordering candle dust covers.

Should the cover sit inside the rim or on top of the jar?

Inside-rim covers drop onto the wax and suit jars with a lid on top. Over-rim covers rest on the glass and act as a visible printed top. Measure the inside or outside diameter depending on which look you want.

Can you cut a hole for the wick?

Yes, a small centre slot lets the wick stand upright through the cover so it does not bend over during storage. It also keeps the wick centred if the candle is moved before it has fully cured.

Will the card stick to the wax?

Once the candle has fully set, a dry card cover will not stick. Add covers after the wax has cured and cooled, not while the surface is still soft. A coated or laminated board also releases more cleanly.

Do you make covers for tins as well as glass jars?

Yes. We cut covers to sit just inside the lip of a tin so they stay in place when the tin is tilted. Send the internal diameter of your tin and we size the circle from that.

Can I add a pull tab so customers can lift it easily?

A small tab on the edge of the circle lets customers remove the cover without pressing their fingers into the wax. It adds very little to the cost and is popular for inside-rim covers.

Is foil worth it on such a small piece?

On a small circle a foil logo gets noticed because there is little else to look at. Many makers foil just the brand mark and leave the rest plain. The proof will show where the foil sits.

Can each scent have a different design in one order?

Yes, you can split one order across several designs, for example a different colour for each fragrance. Tell us how many of each you need and we price them together.

Can you print on both sides of the cover?

Yes, the underside can carry burn care advice, a thank-you note or your web address. Customers see it when they lift the cover off for the first light.

What if my jars vary slightly in size?

Measure a few jars from the same batch and send us the smallest inside diameter. Cutting to the smallest size means every cover fits, and a millimetre or two of clearance is not visible once the lid is on.

How soon can covers arrive for a market or launch?

Production is 4–7 working days after you approve the proof, followed by free tracked delivery to the UK mainland in 2–3 working days. Plan around two weeks from approval to be comfortable.

Can you match my existing candle label design?

Yes. Send your label artwork and we adapt it to a circular layout so the cover and label look like one set. We can also make matching boxes if you want the whole range done together.
