Biodegradable Burger Boxes in Plain Kraft Clamshells
Clamshell burger boxes made from unbleached kraft board with a grease-resisting finish applied at the mill, no plastic lining and no lamination, printed with your logo in water-based ink. They lock shut with a tab, vent steam through small holes, and arrive flat for assembly on the pass.

Board and Construction
The box is a single sheet of kraft folding board, usually 300 to 350 gsm, with a grease-resisting treatment applied by the mill rather than a polythene coating laminated on afterwards. It is creased and die-cut into a clamshell with a hinged lid, a front locking tab and two small vent holes in the lid so steam escapes and the bun does not go soft.
A corrugated version, with an E flute micro-corrugated wall, holds heat for longer and stands up to a larger, wetter burger. It costs a little more and is the usual choice for delivery rather than eat-in. Both versions are printed with water-based inks and neither has a film laminate on the outside.
We describe the board and the finish on the quote. Where you need paperwork for your own records, the mill's declaration for the board is available from the material supplier on request. We do not make our own claims about how the box behaves after use. The printed burger boxes in all sizes page shows the standard kraft and white board options if you want to compare them.
Sizes for Every Burger
A slider box at 80 mm square takes a mini burger or a chicken slider. The standard 100 mm box fits a quarter-pounder with a bun and a slice of cheese. The 120 mm box takes a double or a loaded burger, and the 135 mm box is for a stacked burger with a tall bun. A rectangular meal box holds a burger and a portion of fries side by side.
Height matters as much as footprint. A 65 mm deep box squashes a brioche bun; 80 to 100 mm leaves room. The lid should close with a little space above the bun so the box does not pop open on the delivery bike. We can adjust any dimension, and we send a dieline so you can cut a paper mock-up and test it with your own bun before approving.
For a burger and fries in separate compartments, an internal divider keeps the fries crisp and stops the burger sliding. The burger and chip boxes with dividers cover that format with a compartment sized for a standard scoop.

Print on Kraft Board
Brown kraft gives a one-colour logo a warm, hand-made look, and most burger brands print one or two colours on the lid and leave the rest bare. Black and white are the standard inks; a brand colour as the second ink covers most logos. White prints as cream on brown board unless laid twice.
Full-colour print is possible on a white-faced kraft board, which keeps the brown inside and gives a bright white outside for photographs or a bold pattern. Inside-lid print, with a message or a sauce chart, is included in the same pass. All inks are water-based and there is no varnish or laminate over the print.
Fine detail fills in a little on kraft, so keep text above 7 pt and lines above 0.4 mm. The free design proof shows the artwork on the flat blank and on the folded box so you can see where the lid, hinge and tab fall. The burger wrap paper with your logo is printed in the same inks if you want wraps to match.
On the Pass and on the Road
The boxes arrive flat and stack neatly on a shelf above the pass. Folding one takes a few seconds: raise the sides, fold the lid over and press the tab into the slot. Staff learn it in a minute. The vent holes let steam out so the bun stays firm for the ten to twenty minutes between the pass and the customer.
The grease-resisting finish stops fat soaking through the base in that window. For a very wet burger, a square of greaseproof paper under the patty extends the time before the base marks. The locking tab holds the box shut in a delivery bag, and a paper seal label across the front makes it tamper-evident for delivery platforms.
The corrugated version is the one to choose for delivery over twenty minutes or for double-stacked boxes in a bag. For eat-in service, the single-wall board is lighter and cheaper. For the full kit, the fries boxes and scoops to match are printed in the same inks and arrive in the same consignment.
Who Orders These Boxes
Burger vans and street-food traders who want a plain kraft box with a bold logo. Independent burger restaurants moving away from a plastic-lined clamshell. Pub kitchens serving burgers to go. Dark kitchens on delivery platforms, where the box has to hold up for twenty minutes in a bag.
Festival caterers order the slider size by the thousand for mini burgers and the standard size for the main menu. Chicken shops use the same box for fried chicken burgers and the meal box for a burger and wings. Butchers and farm shops selling cook-at-home kits use the unprinted version with a paper label.
Most buyers order two sizes, a standard and a large, and run the same artwork on both. Chip cups, drink carriers and napkins in the same kraft finish complete the set; the food and takeaway packaging range lists them together.
Specification Notes for Your Own Records
Buyers increasingly need to say on their own menus and websites what their packaging is made from. For this box the plain answer is: unbleached kraft folding board, a grease-resisting treatment applied at the mill, water-based inks, no plastic lining and no laminate. That sentence is what we print on the quote and you are welcome to use it.
Anything beyond that, such as how the box should be disposed of, depends on local collection rules and on what the box has been in contact with. We leave that wording to you and your own advisers, and we print whatever you supply on the inside of the lid or the base if you want the instruction on the box.
If you want sample boxes before a first order, ask with the quote and we send a few unprinted ones to test with your own menu. The moulded sugarcane fibre burger boxes are the alternative we suggest for very wet or saucy burgers that need a sturdier base.
Price, Proof and Delivery
Send the box size, the board you prefer, the number of print colours and the quantity, with your logo. A custom quote comes by email within one working day and lists the board grade, the finish and the inks. Minimums are low and set per job. One-colour kraft clamshells start from £0.25 on larger runs.
A free design proof shows the artwork on the flat blank and folded box. Production takes 4–7 working days after approval and delivery is free and tracked to UK mainland addresses in 2–3 working days, flat in cartons. If any boxes arrive misprinted or damaged, tell us within 10 days with a photo and we reprint or refund them. Kitchens that also sell wraps and hot dogs often add the hot dog clamshell boxes to the same order so everything matches.

Biodegradable Burger Boxes Questions
What buyers ask before ordering biodegradable burger boxes.
What board is the clamshell made from?
Unbleached kraft folding board with a grease-resisting treatment applied at the mill, water-based inks, no plastic lining and no laminate. A micro-corrugated version is available for delivery.
Do you make claims about disposal?
No. We describe the board and finish on the quote and print the wording you supply. The mill's declaration is available from the material supplier on request.
Will grease soak through?
The finish holds fat for the normal window between the pass and the customer. For very wet burgers, add a greaseproof sheet under the patty or choose the corrugated version.
Does the box have vent holes?
Yes, two small holes in the lid so steam escapes and the bun stays firm. We can leave them out if you prefer.
Which size fits a quarter-pounder?
The 100 x 100 x 80 mm standard box. Go up to 120 mm for a double and 135 mm for a tall stacked burger.
Can the lid carry a full-colour design?
Yes, on the white-faced kraft board. On brown kraft, one or two colours look best.
Is print on the inside of the lid possible?
Yes. Inside print is part of the same pass and is popular for a message or sauce chart.
How long does the box take to fold?
A few seconds. Raise the sides, fold the lid over and press the tab into the slot.
Can I get samples first?
Yes. Ask with the quote and we send a few unprinted boxes to test with your own buns.
How few burger boxes can I order?
Minimums are small and set for each job, so a single van or a weekend market stall can order a sensible first run. Tell us the box size and roughly how many burgers you serve a week and the quote prices that number.
How long until the boxes reach my kitchen?
Count on about two weeks from first email to delivery: the quote lands within a working day, the free proof follows, production takes 4–7 working days and the cartons travel free and tracked to UK mainland addresses in another 2–3.
