Custom Vinyl Banners

from £0.25 a bannerPriced per job · low minimums

Custom vinyl banners are the quickest way to put your name in front of passing people, whether that means a shopfront fascia, a fence at a fun run or the back wall of an exhibition stand. We print them on heavy PVC with hemmed edges and brass eyelets, so they go up with cable ties and come down again for the next event.

What a Printed Vinyl Banner Actually Does

A banner has one job: to be read from a distance by someone who is not looking for it. That shapes every decision, from the size of the lettering to the colour of the background. A beautifully detailed design that works on a flyer often falls apart at five metres, because thin type and pale contrast simply vanish against a busy street.

Printed vinyl banners are made from a coated PVC sheet with a woven scrim inside it. The scrim gives the material its tear strength, which is why a banner can be pulled tight between two posts and left out in wind and rain. The coated face takes solvent or latex inks well, so reds stay red and blacks stay dense, and the surface wipes clean if it picks up road dust. Smaller signs for doors and counters use the die-cut flyers and shaped signs.

Choosing the Right Banner Size for the Space

Measure the space before you choose a size, not after. For railings and fences, measure between the posts and take off a little so the ties have room to pull. For a shopfront, check the clear area above the window and remember that a banner looks best with a margin of wall around it rather than filling every millimetre.

As a rough guide, lettering needs to be around 25 mm tall for every metre of reading distance. If people will see your banner from across a car park, your main line needs to be large and short. Keep the message to a name, one benefit and one contact route, such as a web address or phone number.

For exhibition use, ask the organiser for the exact shell scheme dimensions. Stand walls vary, and a banner that is a few centimetres too wide will either bow or need to be folded at the edges, which looks careless next to a neighbour's tidy graphics. Our guide to measuring for custom print covers large-format sizes and allowances.

  • Shopfront fascias: long, shallow formats suit the space above a window
  • Railings and fences: match the gap between posts, minus room for ties
  • Event backdrops: tall formats behind a table or speaker
  • Market stalls: smaller banners that hang from the canopy frame

Material, Finishing and Fixings

Our standard banner vinyl suits most outdoor and indoor jobs. For banners that will be seen from both sides, such as those hung across a walkway, a blockout vinyl stops the print on one face from ghosting through to the other. Mesh vinyl is the choice for windy sites like scaffolding and sports grounds, since the tiny perforations let air pass through and reduce strain on the fixings.

Every banner is hemmed around the edge to stop fraying and strengthen the border. Eyelets are fitted along the hems at regular spacing, and we can add extra eyelets at the corners where the pull is greatest. Pole pockets are available if you plan to hang the banner from a rod or slide it onto a frame.

Tell us how the banner will be mounted and we will suggest the fixing layout. Cable ties suit railings, bungee cords give a little in high wind, and pole pockets work well for indoor drops. Mesh and solid PVC weights are compared in the board and card types guide alongside the boards.

Design Advice for Banners People Remember

High contrast is the single most useful rule. Dark text on a light background, or white text on a strong colour, reads far better than mid-tones placed side by side. Avoid script fonts for the main line, and keep body copy to a minimum because nobody stands still to read a paragraph on a fence.

Send artwork at the final size, or at a fixed scale such as one tenth, with images at a resolution that holds up when enlarged. Vector logos are ideal. If you only have a small image file, we will tell you on the proof whether it will look soft at full size before anything is printed.

Leave a safe margin inside the hem so that eyelets do not punch through a phone number or the edge of your logo. Our free design proof shows hem and eyelet positions so you can check the layout before production. Colour and contrast at a distance are discussed in the print and finish options guide.

Who Orders Vinyl Banners From Us

Independent shops use them for openings, refits and sale periods when the permanent sign is not enough. Sports clubs hang sponsor banners around pitches and use them to mark registration tents. Schools and charities order them for fêtes, open days and sponsored walks. Estate agents and building contractors fix them to site hoardings, and exhibitors carry them to trade shows as a lightweight alternative to rigid display panels.

Because vinyl rolls up without creasing if handled with a little care, many customers reuse the same banner for event after event. A tube or a loose roll in the boot of a car is all the storage it needs. Estate agents and takeaways that banner a railing often pair it with door hangers for the same streets.

Caring for a Banner Between Events

A banner that is looked after will see far more outings than one stuffed into a bag. When you take it down, wipe off any mud or road grime with a damp cloth and mild soap, then let it dry fully before rolling it. Rolling it with the printed face outwards puts less stress on the ink than rolling it face in, and a cardboard tube from a carpet shop or a length of pipe makes a good core.

Store it somewhere dry and away from radiators. Damp storage can mark the hems, and heat can make the vinyl stick to itself. Keep the cable ties or bungees in a small bag taped to the roll so the fixings are never missing on the morning of the next event.

If a hem starts to lift or an eyelet pulls loose after heavy use, contact us with a photo. Often the simplest answer is a fresh print from the same approved artwork, which we keep on file so a repeat order does not need a new layout. A leaflet drop timed with the banner is covered on the door hanger flyers with tear-off coupons page.

Measure the Fixing Points, Not the Wall

A banner is sized to where it hangs, and the mistake is to measure the wall rather than the railing or frame it ties to. Measure between the posts or the fixing points, take 50 mm off each side so the eyelets have something to pull against, and note how high the top edge can go before it fouls a gutter or a sign. For a fence in an exposed spot, say so, because mesh with wind slits is safer than solid PVC over 3 metres. Send the size, the quantity, the fixing method and the artwork or a sketch.

A custom quote comes by email within one working day, and once accepted a free design proof shows the full layout with hems and eyelets marked so nothing punches through a phone number. Production runs 4 to 7 working days after approval, followed by free tracked delivery to the UK mainland in 2 to 3 working days; banners are rolled rather than folded, and any that arrive misprinted or damaged are reprinted or refunded if reported within 10 days. Handouts for the same event are covered on the A6 flyers for event handouts page.

Vinyl Banners Questions

What buyers ask before ordering vinyl banners.

How do I stop my banner flapping on a windy fence?

Pull it tight with ties at every eyelet rather than just the corners, and choose mesh vinyl if the site is exposed. The perforations let wind pass through, which keeps the banner flatter and puts less strain on the hems.

Can I see both sides of a banner hung across a walkway?

Yes, ask for blockout vinyl with double-sided printing. The blockout layer stops the design on one face showing through to the other, so each side reads cleanly.

What file format should I send for a large banner?

A PDF with vector text and logos is best, set at full size or a fixed scale such as one tenth. Photos should be high resolution at that scale. If something will look soft when enlarged, we point it out on the free proof.

How far apart are the eyelets?

We space them evenly along the hems so the banner pulls flat, with extra eyelets available at the corners. If your railings or frame have fixed fixing points, tell us the spacing and we will match it.

Will a vinyl banner survive being left outside?

Banner vinyl is made for outdoor use and handles rain and wind well when it is fixed properly. Long periods in strong sun will gradually fade any print, so for very long displays it is worth planning a replacement.

Can you add pole pockets instead of eyelets?

Yes. Pole pockets can be sewn along the top, bottom or both edges so the banner slides onto a rod or frame. Tell us the diameter of the pole so we make the pocket wide enough.

How large should my phone number be?

Work on roughly 25 mm of letter height for every metre of reading distance, so a banner read from across a road needs numerals around 250 mm tall. Keep the rest of the copy short so the number has room.

Do banners arrive folded?

No, we roll them so they arrive without sharp creases. If a light curl remains, lay the banner flat in a warm room for a few hours before hanging it.

Can I order several banners with different wording?

Yes. Many clubs and shops order a set with a shared design and different messages. Each version gets its own proof so you can check every one before we print.

How soon could I have a banner for an opening day?

Production takes 4–7 working days from proof approval, then free tracked UK mainland delivery takes 2–3 working days. Approving the proof quickly is the best way to keep a tight date.

What happens if the print is wrong when it arrives?

Report any misprint or transit damage within 10 days with a photo. We reprint the banner or refund you, whichever suits your event.
