Small Cards with a Big Job
At a reception, guests arrive from drinks, check the seating plan and then go looking for their table. Clear table numbers make that moment smooth. Hard-to-read numbers lead to a room full of people wandering between tables, which delays the meal and frustrates caterers.
Table numbers also appear in a great many photos. They sit in the middle of every table, next to the flowers and candles, so they are part of how the reception looks. A number that matches the invitation and menu makes the whole day feel considered. Many couples order them with their printed wedding invitations so the colours match.
Couples often keep a table number as a memento, and many photographers include one in detail shots. That is worth bearing in mind when choosing paper and finish.
Caterers and venue staff use the numbers too. They serve tables in order, check dietary requirements against table lists and know where the wedding party is sitting when speeches begin. Clear numbers help the whole team work smoothly, not just the guests.
Formats: Tents, Flats and Names
Tent cards stand on their own and show the number on both sides, so guests can see it from any direction. They are the easiest option because they need no stands. Flat cards look elegant in a frame, on a wooden stand or clipped to a holder, and can be larger. Our custom table tent cards show the folded format in more detail.
Many couples choose table names instead of numbers: places that matter to them, favourite songs, films or flowers. Named tables avoid any sense of a top table and a back table, and they give guests a conversation starter.
The back of a flat or tent card is useful space. Some couples print the menu for that table, a short thank-you note, or a fun fact about the table name. Guests read it while they wait for the starter, and it makes the table feel personal.
For a relaxed, garden or festival-style wedding, numbers on wooden stakes pushed into a planter, or printed on kraft tags tied to jars, fit the mood better than formal cards. We can print cards cut to suit whatever holder you plan to use.

Choosing a Size That Reads Across the Room
A table number must be readable from a few metres away, over flowers and candles. An A6 card is a minimum for most rooms; A5 is safer in large venues or when the centrepieces are tall. Numbers should be large, with plenty of contrast against the background.
Think about the height of your centrepiece. A tall floral arrangement can hide a small tent card. A flat card on a tall stand, or a table number attached to the centrepiece itself, keeps the number visible.
For long banquet tables, consider a card at each end, so guests approaching from either side can see it. Larger rooms may suit our larger A4 table tents.
Lighting changes everything. A candlelit room needs numbers in a dark ink on a light card, or a metallic foil that catches the flames. Pale pastel numbers on cream card can disappear entirely once the lights go down.
Paper, Print and Finish
Thick uncoated card feels luxurious and suits classic and rustic weddings. Smooth card shows fine detail and bright colours. Kraft card suits barn, garden and outdoor weddings. Pearlescent and textured papers catch the light on candlelit tables.
Foil adds a touch of shine to numbers and names, in gold, silver, rose gold or copper. Letterpress-style debossing gives a pressed, tactile effect. A simple digital print in one colour looks clean and modern. Avoid gloss laminate on most wedding stationery, as it reflects light badly in photos.
Match the paper to your invitations if you can. Send us a photo or a sample of your invitation and we will suggest a stock and print to match. Our comparison of print and finish options explains foil and spot gloss.
Matching Your Wedding Stationery
Table numbers usually come late in the planning, after invitations and save the dates. By then you know your fonts, colours and motifs. Using the same elements, perhaps a monogram, a floral illustration or a particular typeface, ties the reception together.
If your invitations were designed by someone else, send us the files or a clear photo and we will recreate the look as closely as possible on your table numbers. Our free design proof shows every card, so you can check numbers, names and spelling before printing.
Check the proof carefully. Spelling a table name wrong, or missing a number, is easy to do and hard to fix on the day. Thank-you notes after the day can follow the same design on printed thank-you cards.
Planning Around the Seating Plan
Finalise your table list before ordering. Late changes, such as an extra table for late RSVPs, are common, so order one or two spare numbers in case. If you use named tables, make sure the names on the seating plan, place cards and table cards all match exactly. Place cards can be printed as folded name table tents.
Place cards can be printed with guest names, saving hours of handwriting. If you prefer handwritten names, choose an uncoated card that takes ink well, and order spares for mistakes.
Wedding planners managing several weddings often keep a set of plain numbers in stock and add a personalised card for each couple, which is a practical way to offer something tailored without a long wait.
Think about who will set the tables on the day. Package the cards in table order, with place cards grouped by table, and the venue team can set the room quickly without checking every name twice.
Ordering Your Table Numbers
Send the number of tables, the format, the size, the paper and any design files or invitation photos. A custom quote arrives by email within one working day, minimums are low and set per job, and simple items start from £0.25.
Production takes 4 to 7 working days after you approve the proof, and free tracked delivery to UK mainland addresses usually takes 2 to 3 working days. Report any misprint or damage within 10 days and we will reprint or refund it, but leave enough time before the wedding for that to be possible.
Cards are packed flat with protective sheets between them, so foil and textured papers arrive without scuffs.

Wedding Table Numbers Questions
What buyers ask before ordering wedding table numbers.
What size should wedding table numbers be?
A6 is a minimum for most rooms; A5 is better in large venues or with tall centrepieces. Large, high-contrast numbers read best.
Can I use table names instead of numbers?
Yes, we print named tables too, often with a short note on the back explaining why the name matters to you.
Do tent cards need stands?
No, tent cards stand on their own. Flat cards need a stand, frame or holder.
Can you match my invitations?
Send the design files or a clear photo and we will match fonts, colours and motifs as closely as possible.
Which paper photographs well?
Uncoated and textured papers photograph beautifully. Avoid gloss, which reflects light in photos.
Can you print guest names on place cards?
Yes, we print variable names on place cards, which saves a lot of handwriting.
Should I order spare table numbers?
It is wise to order one or two spares in case the table plan changes late.
Can numbers be foiled?
Yes, gold, silver, rose gold and copper foil all work well on table numbers and names.
How far ahead of the wedding should I order?
Leave time for the proof, 4 to 7 working days of production, 2 to 3 working days of free tracked UK mainland delivery, and a margin for any corrections.
What if a table name is misspelt on arrival?
If it differs from the approved proof, report it within 10 days and we will reprint or refund it. Check the proof carefully to avoid errors.
Can a planner order plain numbers to reuse?
Yes, many planners keep a reusable set of plain numbers and add personalised cards for each couple.
