Custom Rigid Hexagon Boxes
Rigid hexagon boxes are six-sided presentation boxes built from thick greyboard, wrapped in printed paper and closed with a lift-off lid. They give premium sweets, candles and small gifts a shape people remember, and they are sturdy enough to be kept long after the contents have gone.

Why a Six-Sided Box Changes the Unboxing
Most gift packaging is square or oblong, so a hexagon gets noticed before anyone reads the logo. The six walls catch light differently on a shelf, the lid sits like a cap rather than a flap, and the whole piece looks closer to a keepsake tin than a carton. A box this sturdy is easy to reuse for jewellery, buttons, tea bags or desk clutter, which keeps your branding in view after the contents are gone.
Because the walls are rigid board rather than folding card, the box does not flex when it is picked up by the lid. That matters for anything heavy for its size, such as a poured candle in a glass vessel or a stack of truffles. The lid drops over the base with a gentle drag of air, and that slow fall is part of what makes the box feel expensive. Square rigid boxes built the same way are listed as premium rigid boxes.
How Rigid Hexagon Boxes Are Made
Each box starts as six panels of greyboard cut and joined at the corners, then a printed wrap sheet is glued around the outside and folded over the top edge into the inside. The lid is made the same way, slightly larger, so it slides over the base. The result is a box with crisp edges and no visible board, as the wrap covers every face that a customer sees.
You can print the wrap with full artwork, use a plain coloured paper with a foil logo on the lid, or mix the two by printing the base and keeping the lid in a single solid shade. Speciality papers with a linen or leather-grain texture work well on hexagons because the angled corners show off the surface. The wrap papers and foils we stock are shown together on our finish page.
- Greyboard thickness chosen for the weight of the contents, from slim board for sweets to heavier board for glass candles
- Wrap papers in printed art paper, uncoated textured stock or coloured paper with no print
- Inside lined in a contrast paper so the reveal has its own colour
- Lid depth from a shallow cap to a full-depth shoulder style

Sizing a Hexagon Around Your Product
Hexagons are measured across the flats, meaning from one straight side to the opposite straight side, plus the inside height. That flat-to-flat figure is the one that tells you whether a round candle jar or a stack of chocolates will drop in cleanly. Measure your item at its widest point, add a few millimetres for ease, and if you plan an insert, add its wall thickness on every side.
For a single candle, the inside diameter needs only a little clearance so the jar does not rattle. For loose sweets or wrapped truffles, a wider and shallower hexagon is easier to fill and looks fuller when the lid comes off. Send us the product or its measurements and we will suggest the flat-to-flat size and lid depth before you approve anything.
Height deserves the same care. A lid that clears the product by only a millimetre or two looks tidy and stops movement, while too much headroom leaves the contents sliding around and makes the box feel half empty when it is opened. For sets that are hand-filled, such as truffles in paper cups, allow a little extra height for the cups themselves, which are often taller than the chocolates they hold. Our guide to measuring products for a rigid box covers inserts and headroom.
Inserts, Trays and Finishing Touches
An insert turns a hexagon from a container into a presentation piece. A card insert with a round cut-out holds a candle jar in the centre; a hexagonal tray with six wedge compartments suits pralines or macarons; a soft foam pad cut to shape cradles a perfume bottle or a ceramic item. Inserts can be wrapped in the same paper as the box so the whole interior matches. Trays with wedge compartments are the same build as our rigid sweet boxes with inserts.
On the outside, foil blocking on the lid is the most popular finish because the flat top gives it a clean stage. Embossing adds a raised logo you can feel, and a spot gloss on a matt wrap makes a pattern catch the light. A ribbon pull under the base helps lift the box out of a larger hamper, and a printed sticker seal across the lid shows the gift has not been opened.
Who Orders Rigid Hexagon Boxes
Chocolatiers and confectioners use them for hand-picked selections that need to look different from the standard square box. Candle makers choose them because the shape suits a round jar and the rigid walls protect glass in the post when the box goes inside an outer carton. Gift shops, florists and wedding planners order smaller hexagons as favours, and corporate buyers use them for welcome gifts where the box itself should be worth keeping.
Brands that sell honey, loose tea or bath products also suit the shape, as it echoes a honeycomb cell and gives a natural reason for the geometry. If your product has any link to bees, nature or craft, the hexagon tells part of the story before the lid is lifted.
Retailers who sell rigid hexagon boxes empty, as part of a gift-wrapping counter or a pick-and-mix offer, often order two sizes in the same wrap. Shoppers then choose the size they need, and the matching design makes the counter look planned rather than improvised. Stacked in a pyramid on a table, a few dozen hexagons make a striking display in their own right. Counters that want a curved shape beside the hexagons add round gift boxes in the same wrap.
Give Us the Flat-to-Flat Size, Not the Corner Width
Hexagons confuse tape measures, so the one figure we need is the distance across the flats, from one straight side to the opposite one, plus the inside height. Measure your jar or your stack of chocolates at its widest point, add a few millimetres, and add the insert wall thickness if a tray goes in. Keep headroom to a millimetre or two so the box feels full, and allow for paper cups if truffles are hand-filled.
Decide the lid depth by weight: a shallow cap for sweets, a full-depth shoulder that grips for a glass candle. Send the product size, the count per box, the wrap and the quantity, and a custom quote comes back by email within one working day, with minimums set per job. The free proof shows the wrap across all six panels and the lid. Production takes 4–7 working days after approval and the built boxes arrive by free tracked delivery to UK mainland addresses in 2–3 working days. Damaged or misprinted boxes reported within 10 days are reprinted or refunded. A folding-board version of the same shape is covered on our hexagon boxes in folding card page.

Rigid Hexagon Boxes Questions
What buyers ask before ordering rigid hexagon boxes.
How do you measure a rigid hexagon box?
We measure across the flats, from one straight side to the opposite one, plus the inside height. That is the figure that tells you whether a round jar or stack of sweets will fit. If you send your product size we will work it out for you.
Can a hexagon box hold a glass candle safely?
Yes, as long as the board is thick enough and the fit is close. We usually add a card insert with a round cut-out so the jar cannot move. For posting, the hexagon should go inside a plain outer carton.
Will the lid stay on when the box is lifted?
The lid is made to a close tolerance so it holds by friction, and a deeper lid grips better than a shallow cap. For heavier contents we suggest a sticker seal or ribbon so nobody lifts the box by the lid alone.
Can each of the six sides carry different artwork?
Yes. The wrap is printed as one flat sheet, so you can place a different message, flavour name or pattern on each panel. Your free design proof shows exactly where each panel falls.
Do rigid hexagon boxes come flat?
No, rigid boxes are delivered made up because the greyboard is glued at the corners. Plan a little storage space for them. If storage is tight, ask about collapsible styles in the gift range.
What insert works best for chocolates?
A hexagonal tray with wedge-shaped compartments looks neat and stops pieces sliding together. For mixed sizes a single-layer card insert with round cavities is simpler. Both can be wrapped to match the box.
Is foil on the lid better than full print?
It depends on the look you want. Foil on a plain coloured wrap feels quieter and more premium, while full print suits playful brands and lots of flavour information. Many customers combine a printed base with a foil-only lid.
Can I order a set of nested hexagons?
Yes, we can make two or three sizes that sit inside one another, which suits gift sets and saves space in transit. Each size is quoted separately within the same custom quote.
How much does a rigid hexagon box cost?
Our prices start from £0.25 a box on simple card styles; rigid hexagons cost more because of the greyboard and wrap, and your custom quote gives the exact figure. Send the size, quantity and finish and the quote reaches you by email within one working day.
What happens if some boxes arrive dented?
Report any damaged or misprinted boxes within 10 days of delivery with a photo. We will reprint them or refund the cost, whichever you prefer.
Can the inside be printed too?
Yes, the inner lining paper can be printed or chosen in a contrast colour. A short message under the lid is a popular touch for gifts and favours.
