E-Commerce Coffee Boxes
E-commerce coffee boxes are slim, printed postal boxes sized so a bag of coffee fits through a standard letterbox. Roasters running online shops and subscriptions use them to deliver fresh beans without anyone needing to be home.

Coffee That Arrives While Customers Are Out
For an online roaster, the biggest delivery problem is a missed parcel. A bag of freshly roasted beans sitting in a depot for days, or returned to sender, is wasted coffee and a frustrated customer, which is why so many roasters move from a standard coffee carton to a letterbox format. A box that fits through the letterbox solves that completely: the postie pushes it through, and the coffee is waiting on the mat when the customer gets home.
Letterbox boxes are also cheaper to post than larger parcels, which matters on subscription orders where postage is a big share of the cost. Over a year of monthly deliveries, the savings add up.
A printed box turns that delivery into a brand moment too. Subscribers see your design on the doormat every month, and a good-looking box makes a coffee subscription feel like a treat rather than a routine.
Customers also appreciate not having to collect parcels.
Getting the Size Right for Letterbox Delivery
The key is depth. Most letterbox-sized parcels must stay under a certain thickness, often around 25 mm, as well as within a length and width limit, the same constraint as our Large Letter postal boxes. A 250 g bag of whole beans laid flat can usually be pressed to that depth if the bag is a flat pouch rather than a block-bottom bag. Larger bags of 500 g or 1 kg will normally need a deeper box that goes as a small parcel instead.
Check the current size and weight limits of the postal service you use, and tell us so we can size the box to stay within them once the bag is inside.
Ground coffee packs flatter than whole beans, so the same box may hold a slightly larger weight of ground coffee.
Weigh a packed box too. Postal pricing often has weight bands as well as size limits, and a heavier board or an extra printed card can tip a parcel into the next band.

Matching the Bag and the Box
If you are setting up a letterbox subscription, choose the bag and the box together. Flat pouches with a degassing valve are the most common choice, because they lie flat and the valve stops the bag swelling. A block-bottom bag looks great on a shelf but is too thick for most letterbox boxes. Sample bags of 50 to 100 g for tasting flights fit two or three to a box.
Send us a filled bag if you can. Coffee bags vary, and the bag thickness when filled decides the box depth far more than the stated weight.
If you sell both beans and ground coffee, test both in the box. A box that closes easily over a ground coffee pouch may be tight over the same weight of whole beans, and a forced lid is more likely to split in the post.
Board, Structure and Print
Letterbox coffee boxes are usually made from E-flute or thinner F-flute corrugated board, which is strong enough to survive the post but thin enough to keep the box slim. A roll end tuck front style opens neatly and closes securely. A tear strip makes opening easy and stops customers cutting into the bag with a knife.
Print on the outside, inside or both. Outside print carries your brand through the post. Inside print, seen when the lid opens, suits brewing tips, a message from the roaster or details of the month's coffee; the board and card types guide explains E-flute and F-flute. Kraft board printed in one or two colours suits craft roasters; white board shows full colour designs and photographs.
A peel and seal strip on the closing flap speeds up packing on a busy roasting day, as staff can close each box without tape.
Keep the address area clear of heavy print so courier labels stick well and stay readable.
Making Subscriptions Feel Special
Subscription boxes arrive every month, so small details matter. Some roasters print a different colour band or label each month to mark a new origin. Others keep the box the same and add a printed card with tasting notes, a story about the farm and brewing suggestions. A space on the box for a handwritten note or a name sticker makes each delivery feel personal.
Consistency also helps. A box that looks the same each month becomes familiar, and customers recognise it on the doormat straight away.
Think about the moment of opening as well. A box that opens to reveal the coffee bag with a card on top, rather than the bag hidden under packing paper, feels thoughtful and makes subscribers more likely to share a photo.
Coffee Gift Boxes and Bundles
Beyond subscriptions, roasters sell gift boxes containing a bag of coffee with a mug, filter papers, a small brewer or chocolate. These need a deeper box with an insert to hold each item, closer to a printed gift box than a mailer, and they suit gifting occasions throughout the year. A gift box with a printed sleeve can be used for different bundles by changing the sleeve alone.
For corporate orders, a branded coffee gift box with the client's logo on a sleeve or sticker is a popular way to say thank you.
Gift boxes for coffee lovers often include a small card with brewing ratios for different methods, such as cafetière, pour-over and espresso. It is a practical touch that helps new coffee drinkers get the best from the beans.
Press a Filled Bag Flat and Measure It Before Sizing the Box
Letterbox coffee boxes fail by a millimetre or two of depth, so the measurement that matters is the filled bag. Fill a pouch with your usual 250 g, seal it, press it flat the way it will sit in the box and measure the thickness; a block-bottom bag will not press flat, which is why flat pouches with a valve suit this format. Add the board thickness and check the total against your postal service's current letterbox limit. For tasting flights, measure two or three sample bags side by side.
Send the bag size and filled thickness, the box style, the print and the quantity, and a custom quote comes back by email within one working day, from £0.25 each depending on size and quantity, minimums quoted per job. A free design proof shows the print on the flat box. Production takes 4 to 7 working days after approval and free tracked UK mainland delivery follows in 2 to 3 working days. A short first run lets a new subscription test packing and postage. Roasters who also sell pods usually add the coffee pod subscription boxes in the same style.

E-Commerce Coffee Boxes Questions
What buyers ask before ordering E-Commerce coffee boxes.
Will a 250 g bag of beans fit through a letterbox?
Usually yes, if the bag is a flat pouch pressed to around 25 mm. Block-bottom bags are normally too thick.
What postal size limits should I design for?
Check the current limits of your postal service and tell us. We size the box to stay within them with the bag inside.
Can I fit several sample bags in one box?
Yes. Two or three 50 to 100 g bags fit in a letterbox box for tasting flights.
Should I add a tear strip?
A tear strip makes opening easy and stops customers cutting into the coffee bag with a knife. It runs along the lid edge and leaves the box tidy enough to keep the bag in.
Can the inside of the box carry brewing tips?
Yes. Inside print suits brewing tips, a roaster's message or the month's origin details, and it is seen the moment the lid opens.
Kraft or white board for a coffee box?
Kraft suits craft roasters with one or two colours; white shows full colour designs and photography. Both print inside the lid, so the choice is mostly about the look on the doormat.
Can I keep one box and change the coffee each month?
Yes. Many roasters keep one printed box and change a printed card or label each month, which keeps costs down and avoids a new proof every time. The inside lid can carry the fixed brewing guide while the card carries the origin.
Do you make coffee gift boxes with a mug?
Yes. Deeper boxes with inserts hold a bag of coffee alongside a mug, brewer or other gifts.
How should I start a new subscription service?
Order a short first run to test packing and postage. Minimums are low and we reply with a custom quote within one working day.
What if boxes are crushed when they arrive?
Report it within 10 days with photos and we reprint or refund them. Letterbox boxes travel flat in outer cases, so a crushed corner usually shows on the cases at the edge of the pallet first.
