Custom Dinner Set Boxes
Custom dinner set boxes are large, partitioned cartons that keep plates, bowls and mugs apart so a full tableware collection reaches the customer without a single chip. We build them in strong corrugated board, size the partitions to your pieces and print the outside so the box sells the set as well as protecting it.

The Challenge of Packing Ceramics Together
A dinner set is one of the heaviest and most breakable things a homeware brand sells. A twelve or sixteen-piece set of stoneware can weigh several kilograms, and every piece has an edge that chips if it knocks against another. Loose wrapping in paper inside a plain box works for a removal van, but it does not survive repeated handling in courier depots, and it looks disappointing when the customer opens it.
Dinner set boxes approach the problem with structure. Corrugated partitions, slotted dividers or die-cut card cradles hold each plate on its edge or in a stack with separators, keep bowls nested safely and give mugs their own cells. The pieces cannot move against each other, so the force of a knock is spread through the board rather than concentrated on a rim.
Returns are the hidden cost. A single broken side plate usually means sending a whole replacement set, plus collection of the damaged one, so a well-designed box often pays for itself within the first few orders that arrive intact instead of in pieces. Brands that start with single pieces often begin with mug shipping boxes for single pieces before moving to full sets.
Partition Layouts for Plates, Bowls and Mugs
There is no single right layout, because tableware ranges vary so much. A common approach for a four-person set is a deep box divided into zones: dinner plates standing on edge in slots along one side, side plates in a second row, bowls nested with card separators in the middle, and four mug cells at one end. Standing plates on edge is surprisingly strong, as the rim takes load far better than the flat face.
Another approach is stacked trays. Each layer holds one type of piece in a die-cut card tray, and the trays sit on top of each other inside the outer box. This presents beautifully when the lid is lifted and is ideal for gift sets sold in department stores. For larger sets, two separate boxes, one for plates and one for bowls and mugs, can be bound together with a printed sleeve so they are easier to lift and ship. The same partition approach is used in our custom crockery boxes for mixed pieces.

Sizing Dinner Set Boxes From Your Pieces
Start with the largest piece, usually the dinner plate. Measure its diameter and the height of its rim, then the diameter and height of side plates, bowls and mugs including handles. Tell us how many of each are in the set. With those numbers we can design partitions with 3 to 5 mm of clearance per piece, enough to drop each one in easily without leaving room to rattle.
Weight affects board choice. Most sets need at least a double-wall corrugated outer, and very heavy stoneware may need a stronger grade or a separate shipping carton. If you also sell individual pieces or smaller sets, we can design a modular system where the same partitions fit a smaller box, so packers work with familiar components.
Send a photo of the full set laid out on a table with a tape measure. It helps us spot awkward shapes, like square plates or pasta bowls with wide rims, that need special treatment.
Retail Display or Direct Shipping
Boxes sold on a shop floor need print that sells: a photo of the set laid on a table, the number of pieces, the material and the care instructions. Brown corrugated can carry bold one or two-colour print, but white-lined corrugated or a litho-laminated outer reproduces photographs crisply. A cut-out handle or a carry strap lets shoppers take a heavy box to the till.
Boxes that go straight from your warehouse to a customer's door can be simpler outside, often a logo and a fragile mark on kraft, with the presentation saved for the inside. Many brands print the inner trays or a lid insert with a short welcome note and care guidance, which customers see as they unpack. For a gift-ready shelf version, our printed mug gift boxes show how a retail carton can still protect ceramics.
Print, Labels and Handling Marks
Beyond branding, dinner set boxes need practical markings. A clear contents panel, listing each piece, saves customer queries. Handling symbols for this-way-up and fragile help couriers treat the parcel with care. A space for a barcode or SKU label makes warehouse picking easier, especially if you sell several glaze colours in the same box size.
If you sell in multiple colours, print the box once with a colour panel left blank and apply a small label for the variant. It keeps print costs down and stops you being left with boxes printed for a glaze that has been discontinued.
Keep the fragile mark large and on at least two sides, since a box this size is often stacked on its end in a van. If the set ships inside an outer carton, double wall corrugated boxes add a second layer of protection.
Brands That Order Dinner Set Packaging
Tableware brands and potteries selling sets online are the main buyers, followed by homeware retailers who sell own-label collections in stores. Independent ceramicists who make sets to order use smaller runs for commissioned dinner services. Wedding gift list companies and department store suppliers need boxes that look good enough to be wrapped and given.
Restaurants and hotels sometimes order printed boxes for selling their own tableware to diners who loved the plates, and kitchenware importers use them to repack bulk shipments under their brand name.
Studio potters selling at craft fairs use simpler versions of the same idea, with a smaller box and fewer partitions for a two-person set, so customers can carry their purchase home without a bundle of newspaper. Cookware shops bundle dinner sets with matching serving dishes and order a larger box with an extra compartment for the platter. Glassware brands follow a similar route with our custom glassware boxes for retail.

Dinner Set Boxes Questions
What buyers ask before ordering dinner set boxes.
How do dinner set boxes stop plates chipping?
Partitions hold each plate in its own slot, usually on edge, so pieces cannot knock together. Standing plates on edge is stronger than stacking them flat without separators.
What measurements do you need from my tableware?
The diameter and height of each type of piece, mug sizes including handles, the number of each piece and the approximate packed weight.
Can the same box be used for different glaze colours?
Yes. Print the box with a blank panel and add a small variant label for each colour, so you do not need separate boxes.
Which board is strong enough for stoneware?
Double-wall corrugated is the usual starting point. Very heavy sets may need a stronger grade or a separate outer shipping carton.
Can you print a photo of the set on the box?
Yes. White-lined or litho-laminated corrugated reproduces photographs well, which is ideal for boxes sold in shops.
Do the boxes have handles?
Cut-out handles or a carry strap can be added. They help customers lift heavy sets, especially in store.
Can large sets be split into two boxes?
Yes. Many brands put plates in one box and bowls and mugs in another, bound with a printed sleeve, which makes each box lighter to handle.
Can the inner trays be printed?
Yes, a printed inner tray or lid insert with a welcome message or care tips is a nice touch when customers unpack.
How are partitions delivered?
Outer boxes arrive flat and partitions are bundled separately, ready to slot together when packing.
How quickly can I get dinner set boxes for a new collection?
Production takes 4 to 7 working days after you approve the free proof, then free tracked UK mainland delivery takes 2 to 3 working days.
What is the minimum order?
Minimums are low and quoted per job. Send us your set details for a custom quote within one working day.
