Custom Speciality Tubes

from £0.25 a tubePriced per job · low minimums

Custom speciality tubes are paper tubes that go beyond a plain printed cylinder, with foil stamping, embossed patterns, shaped or stepped lids, windows and unusual closures. Premium brands choose them when the tube itself needs to feel like part of the product.

When a Standard Tube Is Not Enough

A plain printed paper tube is already a step above an ordinary carton: it is round, sturdy and pleasant to open. But in categories such as spirits, fine teas, fragrance and luxury confectionery, plenty of competitors use printed tubes. Speciality tubes are how a brand moves further ahead, by adding finishes and structures that customers notice the moment they pick one up.

That might be a lid that lifts with a slow, cushioned glide, a band of mirror foil around the shoulder, a tactile embossed pattern you can feel with your fingertips, or a window cut through the wall to show the product inside. Each detail is small on its own, but together they make the tube look and feel considered rather than off the shelf.

Speciality tubes also earn a second life. Customers keep attractive tubes for storing jewellery, cables, pens, loose tea or keepsakes, and a well finished tube with your logo can sit on a shelf at home long after the product has been used. That kind of afterlife is hard to buy with any other form of advertising.

Speciality Tube Features to Choose From

Most speciality tubes combine two or three of the options below. Choosing them together, rather than adding one at a time, keeps the design coherent and avoids paying for effects that compete with each other.

  • Hot foil stamping in gold, silver, copper, rose gold or holographic
  • Blind or registered embossing on logos and patterns
  • Debossing for a pressed-in mark on the lid
  • Stepped or shouldered lids that sit flush with the base
  • Domed, flat or shaped metal and card end caps
  • Die-cut windows lined with clear film
  • Ribbon pulls and tie closures
  • Inner necks that create a slow, smooth lid action

How Speciality Tubes Are Constructed

A paper tube is made by winding layers of board around a mandrel to form a cylinder, then wrapping it in a printed or textured outer paper. For speciality work, that outer wrap is where most of the effects happen: the paper is foiled, embossed or laminated before it is wrapped, so the finish runs neatly around the curve with no visible joins at the front.

The lid and base can be made in several ways. A telescoping lid slides over the base. A shouldered or necked design has an inner tube that protrudes from the base, so the lid slides down over the neck and sits flush with the outer wall. That neck controls the fit, and getting the tolerance right is what gives the satisfying air-cushioned feel when the lid is lifted.

Ends can be paper discs, card caps or metal ends. Metal ends add weight and a premium look, while card ends keep everything in paperboard and are lighter to ship. Some brands use a contrasting colour on the lid to make the opening point obvious.

Which Brands Use Them

Spirits brands use speciality tubes to present a single bottle of gin, whisky or rum as a gift, often with a foil band and a shaped neck that cradles the bottle. Tea and coffee companies use them for loose leaf and whole beans, because the tube can be sealed with an inner liner and reopened many times. Fragrance and skincare brands choose slim tubes with metallic finishes that sit comfortably beside glass bottles on a dressing table.

Confectioners and chocolatiers like tubes for truffles, pearls and drinking chocolate. Fashion and accessory brands use them for scarves, ties and socks rolled into a cylinder. Even art printers and photographers use speciality tubes to deliver rolled prints as an object worth keeping rather than a postal tube that goes straight in the bin.

Designing Artwork for a Curved Surface

Artwork for a tube is supplied flat but viewed round, so design with the curve in mind. Only about a third of the circumference is visible from the front at any one time, so place your logo and product name within that zone and use the sides and back for supporting text, ingredients and barcodes.

Foil and embossing need clean vector shapes. Keep foiled lines no thinner than a fine pen stroke so the foil releases cleanly, and avoid placing embossing over the seam line where the paper meets. Patterns that run around the whole tube should be designed to repeat seamlessly so they join without a visible break.

For lids, think about what the customer sees from above. A foiled or embossed logo on the lid top is often the first thing noticed when tubes sit on a shelf or in a gift hamper.

Sizing a Tube Around Your Product

Measure the product's diameter at its widest point and its full height, including any caps or stoppers. Add a few millimetres of clearance on the diameter, and decide whether the product will sit directly in the tube or inside an insert. Bottles usually sit in a card or foam collar at the base and a ring at the shoulder so they cannot move sideways.

For loose products such as tea or sweets, the internal volume matters more than any single dimension. Tell us the weight you plan to fill and the product type, and we will suggest a diameter and height that hold it with a sensible gap at the top.

Think about how the tube will be displayed as well as what it holds. A tall, slim tube looks elegant on a shelf but can topple if the base is narrow and the product is top-heavy; a slightly wider diameter or a weighted insert solves that. For gift hampers, shorter and wider tubes sit more securely among other items.

If you plan a range, keep one diameter across several heights. The tubes then line up neatly on a shelf, share the same lid tooling and look like a family rather than a set of unrelated containers.

Speciality Tubes Questions

What buyers ask before ordering speciality tubes.

What makes a tube a speciality tube?

It is a paper tube with added finishes or structures such as foil, embossing, shaped lids, windows or metal ends. These features make the tube feel premium and distinctive. Most brands combine two or three of them.

How do you get a smooth, slow lid action?

We use a necked or shouldered construction where an inner tube sits inside the lid. The tolerance between the neck and lid controls how the lid moves. This creates the cushioned lift customers notice.

Can foil wrap all the way around the tube?

Yes, foil is applied to the outer paper before it is wrapped, so it can run around the full circumference. We avoid placing fine foil detail over the seam line. The proof shows the seam position.

Can a speciality tube have a window?

Yes, a die-cut window with clear film lets customers see the product inside. It works well for teas, sweets and coloured bottles. Windows are placed away from the seam.

Are metal end caps available?

Yes, metal ends add weight and a premium look, especially on spirits and fragrance tubes. Card ends are lighter and keep the tube in paperboard throughout. We can quote both.

How do bottles stay still inside the tube?

We fit a card or foam collar at the base and a ring at the shoulder. These stop the bottle moving sideways. Tell us the bottle dimensions so the inserts fit closely.

Where should my logo go on a round tube?

Keep the logo and product name within the front third of the circumference, which is what customers see at a glance. Use the lid top for a second logo. Supporting text goes on the sides and back.

Can tea or loose products be stored in the tube?

Yes, an inner liner can be added for loose products such as tea or coffee. It helps keep the contents contained between uses. Tell us the product so we choose a suitable liner.

Can I combine embossing with foil on the same logo?

Yes, registered foil and embossing on the same area gives a raised, shiny logo. It is one of the most popular combinations for premium tubes. Both layers appear on your free proof.

How long does a speciality tube order take?

The custom speciality tubes production window is 4–7 working days after proof sign-off. Free tracked UK mainland delivery follows in 2–3 working days. Your custom quote arrives within one working day.
