Custom Hosiery Boxes

from £0.25 a boxPriced per job · low minimums

Custom hosiery boxes are slim, flat cartons that hold a folded pair of tights or stockings on a card, with panels for size, denier and colour that shoppers check before they buy. We print them for hosiery brands, lingerie boutiques and department store concessions, in shapes that stack neatly on a shelf or hang from a peg.

What Shoppers Look For on a Hosiery Pack

Tights are bought quickly and checked carefully. A shopper scanning a wall of hosiery wants three answers in seconds: is this the right size, the right denier and the right shade? If the box makes those easy to find, it gets picked up. If they are hidden on the back in tiny type, the shopper moves on to a brand that does it better.

The box also has to show the product. Hosiery is a sheer, textured fabric that is hard to judge from a photo, so many brands use a window or a slide-out card that lets the shopper see and even feel the knit. Others print a full-length leg image on the front and a fabric swatch window on the side.

Finally, the box protects something delicate. A single snag ruins a pair of fine stockings, so a rigid carton with smooth edges and no rough perforations inside is worth the small extra cost over a soft polybag. The same panels appear on our lingerie boxes with the same panels for matching sets.

Formats Used in Hosiery Retail

The classic hosiery pack is a flat, shallow carton, sometimes with a separate printed card inside around which the tights are folded. Hanging versions add a euro-slot tab for pegs. Premium brands use two-piece boxes with a lift-off lid for stockings and gift sets, often with tissue inside.

Multipacks of everyday tights are usually sold in a slightly deeper carton or a sleeve that holds two or three folded pairs together.

Some brands use a drawer-style box, where a printed tray slides out of an outer sleeve. It gives a neat reveal for premium stockings and protects the fabric well, as the tray can be lined with tissue and the sleeve carries all the shelf information. It also makes a box that customers like to keep for storing their own hosiery at home.

Sizing Custom Hosiery Boxes Around the Fold

Hosiery is folded to a standard card before boxing, so the card size sets the box size. Most single-pair packs are around 130 to 150 mm wide and 190 to 230 mm tall, with a depth of 10 to 20 mm depending on denier. Opaque and thermal tights are bulkier than sheer styles, so a range with several deniers often uses one footprint with two depths.

Fold a few pairs of your thickest and thinnest styles, measure them on the card and add a millimetre or two for easy loading. A box that is too tight causes snags when the folded pair is pushed in; one that is too loose lets the card slide and the window show empty space.

If you sell stockings with lace tops or hold-up bands, check the fold carefully, as the band adds thickness at one end.

Ask us for a plain white sample of the box before your print run. Loading a few real pairs into it is the quickest way to check the depth and fold before committing to artwork. Our method for measuring a folded pair shows where to take the thickness.

Board, Print and Finish Choices

A smooth white folding boxboard is the usual choice. It prints skin tones, model photography and fine type cleanly, which matters because shoppers compare shades closely. A slightly heavier grade keeps hanging cartons straight on a peg over weeks of handling.

Matt lamination gives a refined, fashion-led look and reduces glare under shop lights. Gloss suits bold, playful designs for patterned or coloured tights. Foil on the brand name, or a soft-touch finish on premium stockings boxes, signals quality without adding bulk.

Colour matching is crucial for shade names. If your box shows a colour swatch, ask for a printed proof check against a physical sample, because screen colours can mislead. A small swatch panel on the end of the box also helps staff restock the right shade quickly.

Information Panels That Reduce Returns

A clear size chart is the single most useful panel on a hosiery box. Show height and weight ranges in a simple grid, with the recommended size highlighted. Put the denier in large type on the front and the shade name on both the front and the side, so it is readable when boxes are stacked on a shelf.

The back panel can carry fibre composition, care instructions, the fit description and the barcode. Hosiery brands that print the size and shade on the end panel as well find that stockrooms and tills handle the product faster, and customers pick the right box first time, which means fewer exchanges.

For patterned tights, a small photo or illustration of the pattern on the leg is very helpful. A flat fabric seen through a window rarely shows how a pattern looks when stretched, and shoppers buy with more confidence when they can picture the finished effect. An inside panel can carry a second image or styling suggestion. Brands with many sizes often print one carton and add size labels for one carton design.

Who Orders Hosiery Boxes

Independent hosiery brands use them to hold their own in boutiques and department store concessions. Lingerie shops order own-label boxes for stockings and suspender sets. Dancewear suppliers use them for performance tights in many shades. Online brands use slimmer, sturdier boxes that fit through letterboxes, avoiding missed deliveries.

Medical and compression hosiery suppliers also use printed cartons, with extra space for measuring guidance and wearing instructions.

Hotels and airlines sometimes order small, simple hosiery cartons for emergency spares in amenity kits, where a slim, branded box looks far more considered than a loose pair in a polybag. School uniform suppliers use them for regulation tights in a few standard shades. Thicker knits and fleece-lined styles need the deeper leggings boxes for thicker knits.

Fold a Pair Around Its Card and Measure the Stack

Hosiery cartons are sized by the folded pair on its insert card, so fold a pair the way your packers do, slide the card in, and measure the length, width and thickness of that stack. A sheer 15 denier folds thinner than an opaque 80 denier, which is why one carton rarely covers a whole range without a little slack. Tell us the styles and the deniers you sell, and the quantity per design, and we work out whether one carton size with different printed panels will do. Decide if the carton hangs or stacks, because a euro slot changes the board. Artwork is the front design, the size chart for the back and the shade name for the end panel, sent as vector files and shown on a free proof with the dieline drawn to your fold. A custom quote comes by email inside one working day, low minimums are quoted per job, and approved jobs print in four to seven working days before free tracked delivery to UK mainland addresses. Multipacks of socks and tights are sold from our sleeve boxes for socks and tights.

Hosiery Boxes Questions

What buyers ask before ordering hosiery boxes.

How do I fit several deniers into one box design?

Keep the same width and height and change only the depth. Sheer tights use a shallower box, opaque and thermal styles a deeper one.

Can the box show the actual fabric?

Yes. A window panel lets shoppers see the shade and knit. We place it over the folded card so the fabric fills it neatly.

Where should the size chart go?

On the back panel in a clear grid, with the size also printed on the front and on the end panel so it can be read on the shelf. Keep the grid type above 7 pt. We set the chart from the table you send.

Will the box snag the tights?

We keep the inside smooth, with no rough perforations or exposed cut edges, and size the box so the folded pair slides in without catching. A card insert between the pair and the board adds another layer of protection. Tell us if the tights are packed without a card.

Can you supply the insert card too?

Yes. We print the card the tights are folded around, matched to the box size and artwork.

Can a hosiery carton hang on a euro peg?

Yes, a euro-slot header on the top flap lets the carton hang on standard pegs. We use a stiffer board for hanging cartons so they stay straight on display. The slot position is shown on the proof.

How do I make sure the shade colour prints accurately?

Send us a physical sample of the shade, or the leg of a pair, and we check the proof against it before production. A printed shade swatch on the carton is matched to that sample. Screen colours alone are not reliable for nude and tan shades.

Can a hosiery box fit through a letterbox?

Single-pair cartons are slim enough for most letterboxes. Tell us if this matters and we will keep the depth within letterbox limits.

What do hosiery boxes cost?

Simple cartons start from £0.25 each, depending on size, board and finish. We email a custom quote within one working day.

Do you make gift boxes for stockings?

Yes. Two-piece lid boxes with tissue suit stockings, gift sets and premium ranges.

Can I order different quantities per shade?

Yes. Minimums are low and quoted per job, so slower shades can have shorter runs.
