Custom Clear Lid Gift Boxes
A clear lid lets the gift do the talking: macarons, a posy of dried flowers or a skincare trio stay visible from every angle while the printed base carries your brand. We make custom clear lid gift boxes to the size of what goes inside, with a sturdy board tray and a lid that sits snugly over it.

Why Shoppers Reach for a Box They Can See Into
Most gift packaging hides the product until the ribbon comes off. That works for jewellery and fragrance, where the reveal is part of the moment, but it works against anything bought on looks. A tray of hand-piped biscuits, a row of colourful bath fizzers or a little arrangement of preserved roses sells itself the moment someone can see it, and a transparent lid turns the box into its own window display.
A see-through top also reassures buyers who are ordering a gift for someone else. They know exactly what is going inside, they can check nothing has shifted before handing it over, and the recipient gets that first glimpse without having to open anything. For a shop counter, a stack of clear-topped boxes reads instantly as ready-made gifts, which nudges the impulse buy. Folded clothing sold as a present is the exception, and usually goes in clothing gift boxes with a solid lid.
How the Box Is Built
The base is a printed board tray, either folded with locking corners or made as a rigid box wrapped in printed paper. The lid is a moulded or folded sheet of clear PET that drops over the tray like the top of a shoebox. Some customers prefer the reverse, a clear tray with a printed card sleeve, which gives a slimmer look for flat items such as chocolate bars or soap.
Each version has its own strengths. A folded board base ships flat and costs less to store. A rigid base feels weighty and premium and suits gifts at a higher price point. The sleeve version is quick to assemble and lets you change the printed wrap for different occasions without reordering the clear part.

Measuring Up for Treats, Flowers and Cosmetics
Headroom is the detail people forget. A lid that touches the icing on a cupcake or flattens a flower head spoils the whole effect. Measure the tallest point of the contents and add a little clearance so the lid floats just above. For loose items that could roll, an insert is better than extra space, because it holds things exactly where you placed them.
Width and length follow the layout you want to show. Six macarons in a single row need a long, narrow box, while the same six in a two-by-three grid need something closer to square. Sketch the arrangement, measure it and send the numbers; we will turn them into internal dimensions and show the result on the proof. Our guide to measuring products for a box covers headroom and insert allowances.
Inserts That Keep Everything in Place
The prettiest arrangement in the world means little if it ends up in one corner after a car journey. Card inserts with die-cut cradles hold bottles, jars and cupcakes upright. Shallow cavities keep biscuits and chocolates in neat rows. For flowers, a block of floral foam or a printed card platform raises stems so they sit at eye level under the lid.
Inserts can be printed too. A short message on the insert, such as the flavour of each treat or how to care for a dried bouquet, is seen through the lid and saves you adding a separate card. We design the insert and base together, so they fit first time. The cradles are cut the same way as the inserts and extras for gift boxes we supply separately.
Printing the Base So It Frames the Gift
With the lid clear, the base and any insert become the backdrop. A busy pattern can compete with the product, so many brands choose a solid colour or a subtle texture inside and keep the logo for the outside walls. Light bases make bright treats pop, while dark bases give metallics and pale flowers more contrast.
Full colour print covers the outside of the base and, if needed, the inside face as well. Matt lamination gives a soft, modern finish, gloss lifts strong colours, and foil on the logo adds a little sparkle that shows through the lid at the right angle. A printed or foiled sticker on the lid itself is a neat way to carry a brand name without blocking the view.
Matching the Box to the Occasion
The same clear lid gift box can play very different roles depending on its print. A baker might run one design all year for birthday orders and a softer, paler version for wedding favours. A florist might keep a plain base in a deep green for preserved roses and switch to a white base for baby gifts. Because the lid is clear, changing only the base artwork is often enough to give a fresh look.
Corporate buyers tend to want something cleaner: a single brand colour, a foiled logo and a neat insert holding a few treats or a candle and a card. For those orders we suggest a rigid base, which gives the weight people expect from a client gift, and a printed belly band that can carry the company name without a full custom print run.
Market traders have different priorities. They need boxes that stack on a trestle table, assemble quickly between customers and still look good after a day outdoors. A folded board base with a slightly heavier lid and a matt finish copes well with handling and keeps fingerprints to a minimum.
Order Spare Lids With the First Run
Two small decisions save the most trouble with a clear lid box. First, measure the tallest point of the contents, not the box you have in mind, and tell us that figure so the PET lid floats above icing or petals. Second, order a handful of spare lids with the first run. PET picks up the odd scuff in a kitchen or studio, lids nest inside one another, and a spare means a marked lid never holds up an order.
Sketch the arrangement, send the numbers, the base style and the quantity, and a custom quote comes back by email within one working day, with minimums quoted per job. The free proof shows the base artwork, the lid fit and any insert. Production takes 4–7 working days after approval and tracked delivery to UK mainland addresses is free and takes 2–3 working days. Misprinted or damaged boxes reported within 10 days are reprinted or refunded. If the gift is a bouquet rather than treats, the deeper flower boxes for stems and posies use the same clear lid.

Clear Lid Gift Boxes Questions
What buyers ask before ordering clear lid gift boxes.
What is the clear lid made from?
The lid is clear PET, a rigid, glass-like plastic sheet that keeps its shape and resists cracking. It is folded or moulded to fit your base exactly.
Will the lid squash cupcakes or flowers?
Not if the box is sized with enough headroom. Measure the tallest point of the contents and we add clearance so the lid sits above the icing or petals.
Can I have a printed lid instead of fully clear?
Yes. We can add a printed or foiled sticker, or make a printed card lid with a clear window panel in the middle, so your brand appears on top as well.
Do you supply inserts for cosmetics bottles?
We do. A die-cut card insert holds bottles, jars and tubes upright in the layout you want, and it can carry printed product names that show through the lid.
Can the base be printed inside?
Inside print is available and works well when the lid is clear, because the inside of the base becomes the backdrop. A plain colour or soft pattern usually looks best behind the product.
Are these suitable for baked goods?
Yes, they are widely used for biscuits, cupcakes and macarons. Food-contact grade board is available on request for the base and insert, and many bakers add a glassine or greaseproof liner under oily items.
Does the PET lid arrive folded flat or already shaped?
Folded lids arrive flat and pop into shape with the corners tucked, while moulded lids arrive nested in a stack. Folded board bases come flat as well and lock at the corners in seconds. Rigid bases arrive ready made because they cannot be folded.
Will a ribbon tied over the lid mark the PET?
A satin ribbon leaves no mark, but a stiff grosgrain can scuff a lid that is handled a lot. Slots die-cut into the base let the ribbon pass under the lid instead. A printed belly band is the tidiest option for corporate gifts.
What is the cheapest way to get clear lid boxes?
A folded board base with a simple drop-over lid and one print side is the most economical build, with prices from £0.25 a box depending on size and quantity. Printing the inside of the base adds a second pass, so leave it plain if budget is tight.
How do I check my florist arrangement will fit?
Send the arrangement's width, depth and tallest height, or a photo with a ruler beside it. The free proof shows internal dimensions so you can check before anything is made.
Can I have a new gift set box in time for a spring market?
Yes, if the contents are measured now. After proof approval, production takes 4–7 working days and free tracked delivery to the UK mainland takes 2–3 working days more. Order spare lids with the first run so a scuffed one never holds up a stall.
