Custom Bow Tie Boxes

from £0.25 a boxPriced per job · low minimums

Custom bow tie boxes are small, shallow boxes with an insert that holds a bow tie upright and in shape, often behind a clear window so the fabric and knot can be seen. Menswear labels, tailors and wedding suppliers use them for retail display, gift sets and groomsmen presents.

Keeping a Bow Tie in Shape

A bow tie is a small item with a surprising amount of structure to protect. Pre-tied bows have wings that crush easily, and self-tie bow ties have long tails that crease if folded the wrong way. Dropped loosely into a bag, a silk bow tie can arrive flattened and wrinkled, which is not what a customer paying for a quality accessory expects.

A dedicated box solves this with an insert. A card or foam panel with a slit or a shaped cut-out holds the bow at its centre, so the wings sit open naturally and nothing presses against them. For self-tie styles, the insert can include a channel that keeps the tail flat and straight.

This attention to shape also helps on the shop floor. Bow ties displayed in rows of matching boxes, each standing upright, look orderly and invite shoppers to compare colours and patterns. p2 Tailors who sell neckties as well usually order long boxes for folded neckties in the same design.

Window, Magnetic and Slide Box Styles

There is no single right style, and many brands use two: a window box for retail and a rigid gift box for premium lines and wedding sets.

Window boxes have a die-cut front covered with a clear film panel. They let customers see the fabric, colour and finish without opening the box, which helps sales in shops and markets. Magnetic flap boxes open like a book and feel like a gift. Slide or drawer boxes, where a tray slides out of a sleeve, add a little theatre when opened.

Think also about how the box will be stocked. Window boxes stack neatly in drawers and on shelves, while rigid magnetic boxes take more space but rarely need extra wrapping when sold as a gift, which saves staff time at the till.

Inserts for Bow Ties and Accessories

Card inserts are cut with a slot or a pair of slits that grip the centre of the bow. Foam inserts, wrapped in velvet or satin, hold the bow in a shaped recess and give a softer, luxurious presentation. For sets, the insert can include extra recesses for cufflinks, a tie bar, a pocket square or collar stays.

Wedding suppliers often ask for a set that includes a matching bow tie and pocket square in the groom's colours. The insert holds the bow upright on one side and the folded pocket square on the other, with a slim recess for a card carrying the groomsman's name.

Inserts can be printed too. A small line of text below the bow, such as the fabric type or a care tip, is a neat detail that saves a separate leaflet. p2 Sets that include a pocket square are close cousins of our flat boxes for folded scarves, which use the same shallow format.

Designing Custom Bow Tie Boxes for Menswear Brands

Bow ties are often bought as gifts, so the box should feel worth giving. A clean design with a strong brand colour, the logo in foil and very little else works well. Navy, black, deep green and burgundy are common choices because they frame bright and patterned fabrics nicely.

For retail window boxes, leave the window large enough to show the whole bow, and place the brand name above or below rather than beside it. The back panel can carry fabric details, care instructions and a barcode.

Textured papers on rigid boxes, such as linen or fine grain, give a dressed, menswear feel that matches the product. Embossing the logo adds a tactile detail that customers notice when holding the box.

Keep the barcode and price area on the base or back, away from the window, so shop labels never cover the fabric or your logo.

Wedding Party and Event Orders

Groomsmen gifts are one of the most popular uses. The groom gives each groomsman a bow tie in a personalised box, sometimes with cufflinks or a hip flask in the same set. We can print each box with a name, a role such as best man or usher, and the wedding date.

Corporate events, black tie dinners and award evenings also order branded bow tie boxes as gifts for guests or staff. Formal hire shops use them to return bow ties neatly with each hire suit.

For event orders, we can print a short message inside the lid, such as a thank-you from the couple or the evening's name and date. It turns a practical box into a keepsake that guests hold on to.

Bow ties for children in a wedding party can be boxed in a smaller version of the same design, so the page boys receive something that matches the adults. p3 Hire shops that return the whole outfit sometimes use these with a shirt box in a matching print.

Sizes and Materials

Bow tie boxes are usually small and shallow. A pre-tied bow fits a box around 130 x 80 x 40 mm. A set with a pocket square needs a wider box, around 200 x 120 x 40 mm. Self-tie bow ties are often folded into a longer box.

Folding board works for retail window boxes. Rigid greyboard wrapped in printed or textured paper works for gift boxes. Kraft board suits rustic weddings and handmade brands.

Satin or velvet inside a rigid box suits silk and premium wool bow ties, while a plain white card insert keeps a cotton or linen bow looking fresh and simple. Match the inside to the fabric and the price point rather than using the most expensive option for every product.

Clear film windows can be made in matt or gloss. Matt film reduces glare under shop lights, so the fabric pattern is easier to see, while gloss film gives a brighter, crisper look.

Measure the Bow Open, Not Folded

A pre-tied bow is measured across the wings at its widest point and from top to bottom of the knot, with the neck band removed or folded flat behind. That wing width is what sets the insert slot and the window. Self-tie styles are measured flat and full length, because they go in a longer, slimmer box with a channel for the tail. Send both figures if you sell both styles and we make the two boxes match.

For a wedding order, send the list of names and roles with the quote request so we can show two or three personalised examples on the free proof. We email a custom quote within one working day; the minimum is set per job, so twelve boxes for a wedding party is a normal order, and a simple window box starts at £0.25.

Production takes 4 to 7 working days after you approve the proof, with free tracked delivery to UK mainland addresses after that, so a month before the wedding is comfortable. A groomsman gift that also includes a flask or cufflinks fits better in one of our larger gift boxes with a divided insert.

Bow Tie Boxes Questions

What buyers ask before ordering bow tie boxes.

Will a silk bow tie keep its shape in a bow tie box?

Yes. The insert grips the bow at its centre knot, so the wings sit open and nothing presses on them. A velvet-covered foam insert gives silk and delicate fabrics the softest hold.

Can the bow tie be seen without opening the box?

A window box has a clear film panel on the front, cut to show the whole bow and its pattern. It suits retail racks and market stalls where shoppers compare colours without handling the fabric.

Can the box hold cufflinks and a pocket square too?

Yes, we design the insert with extra recesses for cufflinks, a folded pocket square or a tie bar. Send the cufflink size and we cut the recess to hold them face up.

Can each groomsman box have a name on it?

We can print each box with a name, role and wedding date in one order. Send a list and we show examples on the proof.

Which style feels most like a gift?

A rigid magnetic flap box or a drawer box with a sleeve feels the most special, especially with a foil logo and a satin-lined insert. The sleeve or lid also gives a second surface for a name or a wedding date.

What colours work best for bow tie boxes?

Navy, black, deep green and burgundy frame bright and patterned fabrics well. Cream or white suits pastel wedding ranges.

Can I order kraft boxes for a rustic wedding?

Yes, kraft board with one colour print and a twine tie suits rustic and outdoor weddings. The insert can stay white card so the bow colour still shows clearly.

Can a self-tie bow tie fit in the same box?

Self-tie bow ties are usually folded into a longer, slimmer box with a channel for the tail. We can make both sizes in matching designs.

Can you print care instructions on the insert?

Yes, a short care note or fabric detail printed on the insert below the bow saves a separate leaflet. Dry clean only and the fabric composition are the two lines most brands include.

When should I order groomsmen boxes before a wedding?

Allow time for the free proof, 4 to 7 working days of production and 2 to 3 working days of tracked UK mainland delivery. Ordering a month ahead leaves room for any name changes.

Can I order a small number of boxes for one wedding?

Yes, minimums are quoted per job, so small wedding orders are possible. A set of six to twelve personalised boxes is a typical wedding order.
