Custom Soap Sleeve and Drawer Boxes
Custom soap sleeve and drawer boxes pair a printed outer sleeve with a tray that slides out, so a bar of soap or a small gift set is revealed rather than simply unpacked. We make them in folding card or rigid board, sized to your bars and printed with your branding.

How the Sleeve and Drawer Works
The box has two parts. The drawer is an open tray with four walls, usually with a thumb notch or ribbon pull on one end, which sets it apart from a plain printed soap sleeve. The sleeve is a printed band, open at both ends, that the drawer slides into. Push the tray from one side and it glides out of the other, which is why soap makers like it for gifts: the customer gets a small moment of theatre before they see the bar.
Because the sleeve carries most of the print, you can keep the drawer plain white or kraft and still have a box that looks fully branded. Some makers flip this round, printing a bold pattern inside the drawer and keeping the sleeve quiet, so the colour appears only when the tray opens. Either way, the two pieces are made to a tight tolerance so the drawer slides smoothly without falling out when the box is tipped.
Single Bars or Gift Sets
A single-bar drawer is the most common order. It suits handmade cold process bars, guest soaps and shaving soaps, and it gives you a neat retail unit that stands on a shelf or sits in a gift basket, where a soap gift box takes a trio. For these we normally use folding board, which keeps the box light and the unit cost low.
Gift sets need a wider or deeper drawer. A three-bar set, a soap with a matching wooden dish, or a bar paired with a small bath oil all fit well when the drawer has a card insert holding each item in place. For sets like these, rigid greyboard wrapped in printed paper gives a heavier feel that buyers associate with a present rather than an everyday purchase.

Measuring Soap for a Drawer That Slides Well
Measure the bar after it has fully cured, because handmade soap shrinks slightly as water evaporates. Take the length, width and height at the widest points, then add around 2 to 3 mm to the length and width so the bar drops in easily without rattling, as the guide to measuring your product explains. If you wrap bars in paper or film before boxing, measure them wrapped.
The sleeve is then sized from the drawer, not from the soap. We allow a small clearance so the tray moves freely, and we check the fit on the proof stage. If your bars vary from batch to batch, tell us the largest one you make and we will size for that, adding a thin card pad if smaller bars need packing out.
Round or oval soaps sit in a square drawer perfectly well; an insert with a shallow cut-out stops them rolling about.
Board, Print and Finish Choices
Folding board from around 350 gsm is the usual choice for single bars. White board shows bright colours accurately, while kraft board suits natural, unscented and botanical ranges where an earthy look matters; the board and card types guide compares the two. Rigid drawers are made from greyboard wrapped in printed or coloured paper and feel noticeably sturdier in the hand.
Print is full colour CMYK on the outside of the sleeve, with optional print inside the drawer. Foil stamping works well on a brand name, especially gold or copper on kraft. Spot gloss on a logo over a matt laminate catches the light without making the whole box shiny. Embossing a crest or soap name adds texture that people instinctively run a thumb over.
Soap gives off fragrance oils, so we suggest a laminate or varnish on the inside of the drawer if your bars are heavily scented. It keeps oily marks from showing on the board.
Labelling the Sleeve Properly
Cosmetic soap sold in the UK needs certain information on pack, including the ingredients list, the responsible person's name and address, net weight and batch code. The sleeve is the natural place for this, usually on the back panel, or on a printed soap label if the sleeve is kept plain. Leave a blank area if you want to add batch codes with a stamp or small label after printing.
A pull ribbon or thumb notch is worth deciding at design stage because it affects the drawer's end panel. Ribbons look more giftable; a die-cut notch is quicker to pack and keeps costs down.
Packing Day Tips From Soap Makers
Folding drawers arrive flat to save space, and most makers fold a stack of them the evening before a packing session. The tray locks together with tabs, so there is no glue to dry, which is also true of our handmade soap boxes. Sleeves are delivered already glued along one side, which means they open into a tube with a gentle squeeze.
Slide the bar into the drawer first, add any tissue or wrap, and then push the drawer into the sleeve from the end that has the pull. That way the pull always faces the right direction on the shelf. If you sell several scents in the same box, a small round sticker on the sleeve end is a quick way to tell them apart without printing separate sleeves for each fragrance.
Leave boxed soap somewhere cool and dry for a day or two before shipping. Freshly packed bars can sweat a little in warm rooms, and a short rest stops moisture marking the board.
For market stalls, stand a few opened drawers half out of their sleeves at the front of the table. Shoppers see the soap, pick it up to smell it, and the closed boxes behind become the stock they buy.
Measure a Fully Cured Bar, and Pick the Biggest One in the Batch
Soap shrinks as it cures, so a drawer measured on a fresh bar ends up loose six weeks later. Wait until the bar is fully cured, then pick the largest one from the batch, since hand-cut bars vary, and measure its length, width and height at the widest points. Add 2 to 3 mm to the length and width so the bar drops in without rattling, and say whether it will be wrapped in paper first, which adds a little and keeps oils off the board. Have the ingredients list, responsible person details, weight and batch code ready for the back of the sleeve.
Send the bar dimensions, the bars per box and a rough quantity, and a custom quote comes by email within one working day, minimums kept low and quoted per job so a first run can be modest. Before anything prints you receive a free design proof showing the sleeve and drawer flat with fold and cut lines. Production takes 4 to 7 working days after approval and free tracked delivery reaches UK mainland addresses in 2 to 3 working days. Makers who sell bath bombs too usually add bath bomb boxes in the same artwork.

Soap Sleeve and Drawer Boxes Questions
What buyers ask before ordering soap sleeve and drawer boxes.
Can the drawer be printed differently from the sleeve?
Yes. Many soap brands keep the drawer a single colour and put all the artwork on the sleeve, while others print a pattern inside the tray as a surprise. Each part has its own artwork panel on the proof so you can decide separately.
Will the drawer slide out if the box is turned upside down?
It should not. We size the sleeve so it grips the drawer lightly, which keeps the tray in place during handling but still lets it slide when pushed. We check this clearance on your dimensions before production.
Should I measure my soap before or after curing?
After curing. Bars lose a little size as they dry out over the curing weeks, and boxes measured on fresh soap can end up loose. Measure the largest finished bar you make.
Do soap oils mark the inside of the box?
Strongly scented or oily bars can leave faint marks on uncoated board. A matt laminate or varnish on the inside of the drawer helps, as does wrapping the bar in paper before boxing.
Can I fit three bars in one drawer?
Yes. A wider drawer with card dividers holds three standard bars neatly. Send us the bar size and we will work out the internal layout and include it on the proof.
Where should the ingredients list go?
The back of the sleeve is the usual place because it is the panel people turn over in a shop. We can also print the list on the base of the drawer if you want the sleeve kept clean.
Is kraft board a good choice for natural soap ranges?
It suits them well. Kraft has a warm, unbleached look that matches botanical and unscented soaps, and it takes single colour print and foil cleanly. Bright full colour artwork looks better on white board.
Can I add a window to the sleeve?
Yes. A die-cut window shows the soap's colour and texture without opening the box. It can be left open or covered with a clear film, which keeps dust off the bar.
How quickly can I have soap sleeve and drawer boxes?
Production takes 4 to 7 working days once you approve the free proof, then free tracked delivery to UK mainland addresses takes 2 to 3 working days. Measure cured bars before the enquiry so the proof is right first time.
What is the difference between folding and rigid drawers?
Folding drawers are made from a single printed card and arrive flat, ready to fold. Rigid drawers are made from thick greyboard wrapped in paper and arrive assembled, giving a firmer gift-box feel.
Can I order 100 drawer boxes for a market season?
Yes. We set minimums per job and keep them low, so a run of that size for one bar is a normal order. Ask for a custom quote and we confirm the minimum for your size and finish.
