Custom Ice Cream Cone Holders

from £0.25 a holderPriced per job · low minimums

Custom ice cream cone holders are printed card trays with round cut-outs that keep two, three or more cones standing upright while they are carried away from the counter. They save customers from juggling dripping cones in both hands and put your parlour's name in every family photo.

The Problem a Cone Holder Solves

Anyone who has bought ice cream for a family knows the moment: four cones are handed over the counter and there are only two hands to take them. Someone ends up holding a cone for a child who is not ready yet, a scoop tips onto the pavement and the queue behind waits while it all gets sorted out.

A cone holder fixes that in a very simple way. It is a flat piece of card with a row of round holes, folded into a stable tray with short legs or side walls. Each cone drops into a hole and stands upright, and the whole tray is carried with one hand like a drinks carrier. Service is quicker, there is less mess at the counter and the family walks off happy.

For the business, the holder is also a moving advert. It is carried across the beach, the park or the high street with your logo on the side, and it often appears in photos shared online. Tubs sold alongside use the same print on our printed ice cream cups page.

Styles of Ice Cream Cone Holders

We make holders in several layouts so you can match them to how you serve. The right choice depends on how many cones people usually buy together and whether they will sit down or walk away. Take-home pints for the same counter are covered under ice cream boxes for take-home tubs.

  • Two-cone carrier: a compact tray for couples, often with a central handle slot for carrying.
  • Four-cone tray: the family favourite, laid out in a square so the tray stays balanced even when only some holes are filled.
  • Row holder: cones sit in a straight line, useful for party tables and catering where the tray is set down rather than carried.
  • Holder with a handle: a raised centre panel with a die-cut handle makes the tray easy to carry through a crowd and gives a large printed area.
  • Stand for events: a taller unit with a wider base for dessert tables, weddings and launch parties where cones are displayed before serving.

Getting the Hole Size Right

The cut-out is the most important dimension on the whole holder. Too small and a cone sits high and wobbles; too large and it drops through. We size the hole to the cone you actually use, measured at the point where you want it to rest, usually a few centimetres below the rim of the wafer.

Wafer cones, sugar cones and waffle cones all have different tapers, so tell us which you serve and send one or two empty cones if you can. If you use paper cone sleeves, the sleeve adds a little thickness and the hole should allow for it.

Spacing matters too. Leave enough room between holes for generous scoops so that a double serving does not lean into its neighbour. We check this on the proof and can adjust the gaps if your portions are larger than average.

Board, Coating and Strength

Cone holders live a short but demanding life. They meet melting ice cream, cold hands and sometimes a damp table. We usually recommend a sturdy food-contact grade board, available on request, with a coating on the printed side to resist drips and keep the print looking clean.

Lighter board works for two-cone carriers that are used and discarded within minutes. Larger four-cone trays and event stands need a heavier grade, or a folded double wall, so they do not sag in the middle when fully loaded.

White board gives the brightest print and suits colourful parlour branding. Kraft board gives a more rustic look that fits farm dairies and artisan gelato counters. Either can be printed on the outside and left plain on the inside, which keeps the cost down. The board and coating options page explains the water-resistant layer on the printed side.

Designing Artwork That Survives Ice Cream

Think about which surfaces are seen. On a tray with side walls, the outer walls carry the logo and are visible as the holder is carried. The top surface between the holes is usually covered by cones, so it does not need much artwork beyond a pattern or brand colour.

Bold, simple branding works best. A logo, a short tagline and a social handle are plenty. Dark or patterned backgrounds hide the odd drip better than plain white.

If you run several outlets or a van, one design across all of them keeps ordering simple. Flavour menus change often, so they are better printed on boards at the counter than on the holder itself, which keeps your packaging useful for as long as the stock lasts.

One more practical point: if staff will fold holders during a rush, print a small fold guide on an inside flap. It costs nothing extra, it means new staff get it right first time, and it keeps the stack behind the counter tidy. Upload the logo through the free proof request and we will place it on the outer walls.

Who Orders Cone Holders

Ice cream parlours and gelato shops are the obvious buyers, but they are far from the only ones. Ice cream vans use two-cone carriers to speed up a busy queue at the school gate. Seaside kiosks and farm shops use four-cone trays for families. Event caterers and wedding planners use row holders and stands on dessert tables, and party hosts order small runs printed with a name for a birthday or engagement party.

Dessert bars that serve cone-shaped crepes or filled waffle cones use the same holders, sized to their own cones, to keep orders upright on the walk to the table.

Cafes that sell ice cream as a side line also find holders useful for takeaway orders, because a tray of cones slides neatly onto a counter while the rest of the order is prepared. Cups, cones and spoons for those cafés sit under cups, cones and ice cream packaging.

Post Us Two Empty Cones Before We Cut the Holes

The hole diameter is the whole job on a cone holder, and wafer, sugar and waffle cones all taper differently, so the surest route is to post two empty cones of each type you serve. We measure where the cone should rest, a few centimetres below the rim, and allow for a paper sleeve if you use one. Tell us how many cones are usually bought together, because a two-cone carrier and a four-cone family tray are different folds, and say if the holder is carried away or set down on a table.

Send the cones, the count per holder, a logo and a rough quantity, and a custom quote comes back by email within one working day, with simple printed items from £0.25 and low minimums quoted per job. The free proof shows the flat holder with hole positions, fold lines and artwork. Production takes 4–7 working days after approval and the flat holders arrive by free tracked delivery to UK mainland addresses in 2–3 working days. Misprinted or damaged holders reported within 10 days are reprinted or refunded. Parlours that serve two scoops side by side usually order twin scoop cone holders with wider holes alongside.

Ice Cream Cone Holders Questions

What buyers ask before ordering ice cream cone holders.

Will the holder fit my waffle cones?

We size the holes to your exact cones. Waffle cones are wider than standard wafers, so send us one or tell us the diameter at the point where it should rest.

Can a cone holder cope with melting ice cream?

Yes, for the time it is in use. We add a water-resistant coating to the printed surface so drips wipe off and the board holds its shape while the cones are carried.

Do you make holders for just two cones?

Yes, two-cone carriers are popular with ice cream vans and kiosks because they are small, quick to fold and cheap to stock in quantity. A central handle slot makes them easy to carry with one hand.

Can I use the holder with paper cone sleeves?

Yes. Let us know you use sleeves and we will enlarge the holes slightly so the sleeved cone still drops in neatly.

Will a four-cone tray sag with four double scoops in it?

Not on the heavier grade or the double-wall fold we use for family trays, which carries four loaded cones without bowing. The light board is kept for two-cone carriers used for a few minutes. Food-contact grade board is available on request for either.

Can I order personalised holders for a party?

Yes, short runs for birthdays, engagement parties and weddings are welcome. Add names, a date-free message or a theme and we will lay it out on the proof.

How do the holders arrive?

They are delivered flat and packed in cartons. Each one folds up by hand in a few seconds, so you can keep a stack behind the counter and fold as needed.

Can the holder have a carry handle?

Yes. A raised centre panel with a die-cut handle makes larger trays easy to carry and gives you a big area for your logo.

When will my cone holders be ready for opening day?

Allow 4–7 working days for production after you approve the free proof, then 2–3 working days for free tracked UK mainland delivery. Order about three weeks before opening so a proof change does not cut it fine.

What does a printed cone holder cost?

Simple printed card items start from £0.25 each, and holders are priced by size and print. Email us and we will reply with a custom quote within one working day.

What if a delivery arrives damaged?

Tell us within 10 days and we will reprint or refund any damaged or misprinted holders. Fold a few from each carton on arrival so a fault is found before the first hot weekend.
