Measuring Mini Aerosols Properly

Measure the can diameter and its full height including the actuator and cap. Aerosol caps vary a lot in height, and a box measured on the can alone will not close. Add 2 to 3 mm to the diameter for a square box, and around 5 mm to the height so the cap does not press against the top panel.

Most mini hair sprays are between 35 and 45 mm across and 100 to 150 mm tall. Square cartons with the can standing upright are the norm; a small card collar inside can stop the can rattling in a box that is slightly generous. If you sell two sizes, check whether the same width works for both and only the height changes, because that keeps the display looking uniform.

Weight matters for the tab. A full aerosol is heavier than it looks, so we make sure the board and tab are strong enough to hang without tearing.

If your mini cans are made by a filler, ask them for a technical drawing. It gives exact diameters and cap heights, and it is the most reliable starting point for a carton that fits first time. Our guide to measuring bottles and cans covers caps and actuators.

Designing the Hang Tab

The tab is an extension of the back panel that rises above the top of the box, with a hole punched through it. The euro slot, an upside-down T shape with a rounded top, is the standard for most retail peg systems and lets the box hang straight. A simple round hole works for single pegs and looks neater for small salon displays.

The tab can be double thickness, folded over and glued, which makes it much stronger and gives a printed surface on both sides. That fold is worth having for heavier sprays or for displays where shoppers take boxes off and put them back repeatedly. We also offer tabs that tuck away flat when the box is shipped and fold up when it is hung.

Use the tab for your logo. When boxes hang in a column, the tab is often the part shoppers see first. Upload the logo through the free proof request and we will place it on the tab and the front.

Board and Finish for Beauty Shelves

White folding board around 300 to 350 gsm prints haircare branding cleanly and holds a tab under load. Metallic board gives a glamorous look for styling ranges, and black board suits barbershop and men's grooming brands. Gloss laminate makes colours pop under bright shop lighting; matt or soft-touch suits salon brands with a more understated style.

Foil on the brand name, spot gloss on a product illustration, or embossed lettering all help a small box get noticed among dozens of others on a peg wall. Keep the product type, such as strong hold or flexible hold, in large text on the front so shoppers can find the right spray quickly.

Consider the whole range at once. If you sell a hair spray, a texture spray and a dry shampoo in mini sizes, give each a distinct colour band but keep the layout identical. On a peg wall, three columns in matching designs read as one brand and draw the eye more than three unrelated boxes. Aerosol Information on the Pack

Aerosol products carry warnings about pressure and flammability, as well as cosmetic labelling such as ingredients, net volume and the responsible person's details. Some of this already appears on the can, but much of it also needs to be visible through or on the outer box. Leave space on the side and back panels for the text and pictograms your regulatory adviser specifies.

Ask Your Filler for the Can Drawing

Mini aerosol caps vary more than the cans, so the most reliable thing to send is the technical drawing from your filler, which gives the exact diameter and the height with the actuator and cap fitted. If you do not have one, measure a capped can and add 2 to 3 mm to the width and 5 mm to the height. Tell us the filled weight, because a heavy can or a busy display needs the double-thickness tab. Say which peg system your stockists use so the slot is cut to fit.
