A Carton for Every Haircare Container

Haircare comes in more shapes than most categories. A finishing spray in a metal aerosol, a heat protector in a plastic pump bottle, a scalp serum with a dropper and a growth oil in a glass bottle all need slightly different boxes. What they share is height: most are tall and narrow, so the carton is usually a slim upright tube with a tuck at each end.

That shape is easy to stock on a salon shelf or a shop fixture, and it gives you a long front panel for the product name and a back panel for directions and ingredients. For glass dropper bottles we often add a simple card insert so the bottle sits upright and the dropper does not rattle against the lid.

Styles Haircare Brands Choose

The straight tuck end box is the workhorse. Both ends close with tuck flaps, it packs flat, and it is quick to fill by hand on a small production line. A reverse tuck end, where the flaps close from opposite sides, gives a cleaner look on the front panel and is common in retail beauty.

For heavier glass bottles, a crash-lock or auto-bottom base locks into place as the box is opened, which supports the weight better than a tuck flap and is faster to assemble. Premium ranges sometimes move to a two-piece rigid tube or a sleeve over a tray, especially for gift sets that pair a spray with a serum.

Window cut-outs work well for hair oils where the colour of the product is part of the appeal. For aerosols, a window is less useful because the can itself is opaque, so the space is better used for branding.

  • Straight or reverse tuck end for single sprays and serums
  • Crash-lock base for glass bottles and heavier oils
  • Card insert to hold droppers and pumps upright
  • Sleeve and tray for spray and serum gift sets

Measuring Aerosols and Pump Bottles

Measure the widest point of the container and its full height including the cap or pump head. Aerosol caps are often slightly wider than the can, and pump actuators can add a surprising amount of height, so measuring the body alone is the most common sizing mistake we see.

Add around 2 mm to each internal dimension for a smooth fill. Too tight and the box splits at the glue seam when the bottle is pushed in; too loose and the container moves around, which looks cheap when a customer picks it up. If the same carton will hold two bottle sizes in your range, say so and we will suggest whether an insert can bridge the difference.

For a quick check, send us a sample container or a spec sheet from your bottle supplier. Those dimensions are usually exact and remove any guesswork from the proof. Our guide to measuring a product for a box explains the allowance a pump collar needs.

Print, Board and Finishes for Hair Spray Boxes

Most haircare cartons are printed on smooth white folding boxboard, which gives sharp text for ingredients lists and rich colour for branding. Salon brands often use a soft-touch matte laminate for a velvety feel, while mass-market sprays lean on gloss to catch light on a busy shelf.

Foil stamping on the product name, spot UV on the logo, and embossing are all available. Use them sparingly on a slim box; one well-placed effect usually reads better than several competing for a narrow panel. Metallic inks are a lower-cost way to suggest a premium finish across the whole carton.

Remember that aerosols carry mandatory warnings and pictograms. Leave enough room on the back or side panel for them, and make sure the text size stays legible once the artwork is reduced to fit the narrow face.

Selling Through Salons and Online

Salon retail shelves are often shallow and well lit, so the front panel does most of the selling. A strong product name, a clear benefit line and a hold or strength indicator help clients choose without asking the stylist. Shops and pharmacies favour boxes that stand stably and stack neatly in rows.

For online orders, the carton also protects the can or bottle inside a mailer, so it is worth choosing a board weight that resists denting. A dented hair spray box looks damaged even when the product is fine, and that leads to returns.

Building a Consistent Haircare Range

Once a brand has more than two or three products, the cartons start working as a family on the shelf. A shared layout, with the logo in the same place, the product name at the same height and a colour band that changes by product type, helps customers find the right spray, serum or oil without reading every word. Salon staff also appreciate being able to spot the right box in a stockroom at a glance.

A simple way to do this is to keep one base design and vary only the accent colour and product details. Styling sprays might share one colour, treatments another and oils a third. It looks deliberate, keeps print costs sensible and makes adding new products much easier later on.

Height differences are worth planning for too. If a mini spray sits next to a full-size aerosol, matching the top band and logo position on both cartons keeps the shelf looking tidy even though the boxes are very different sizes. We can show the whole range side by side on the proof so you can judge it before anything is printed, and adjust spacing or type sizes so the smaller cartons still read clearly. Oils and serums sold in the same range sit in the lotion boxes with bottle inserts.

Ask Your Bottle Supplier for the Spec Sheet

Aerosols and pump bottles are made to tight tolerances, and the spec sheet from your container supplier is more accurate than a tape measure. It gives the can diameter, the overall height with the cap and the height of the pump collar, which is the part that catches on a carton flap when the box is too short. Send that sheet, or a sample container, with the quantity and any artwork, and the carton is drawn to it. If the range includes a travel size, say so, as the two cartons are scaled together.

A custom quote comes by email within one working day, with low minimums quoted per job so a new haircare line can start small, and prices from £0.25 per carton for simple tuck boxes. Every order comes with a free design proof. Production takes 4 to 7 working days after approval, free tracked UK mainland delivery follows in 2 to 3 working days, and misprints or damage reported within 10 days are reprinted or refunded. Trigger sprays and bottles that are wider than they are tall use the spray bottle boxes for trigger heads.

Hair Spray Boxes Questions

What buyers ask before ordering hair spray boxes.

Should I measure the can with or without the cap?

Always with the cap or pump head fitted. Caps and actuators are often wider or taller than the body, and a box sized without them will not close.

Can the box hold a glass dropper bottle securely?

Yes, we add a card insert that holds the bottle upright and keeps the dropper away from the lid. For heavier glass we also suggest a crash-lock base.

Is there room for aerosol warnings?

We plan the back and side panels so mandatory warnings and pictograms fit at a readable size. Check your artwork against your regulatory guidance before approving the proof.

Which finish suits salon products?

Soft-touch matte with a foil or spot UV logo is a common salon choice because it feels premium in the hand. Gloss suits brightly coloured mass-market sprays.

Can one carton fit two bottle sizes?

Sometimes, with an insert to take up the extra space. It saves ordering two box sizes, but it only works if the difference is small. We will advise on the quote.

Do you offer windows on hair oil boxes?

Yes, a window cut-out with a clear film shows the oil's colour. On aerosols we usually skip the window because the can is opaque.

Will the boxes survive being posted?

A carton inside a mailer protects well if the board weight is right. For online sales we often specify a slightly heavier board to resist dents.

Can I order a small first run for a new product?

Minimums are low and quoted per job, so you can launch a single spray or serum with a modest quantity and reorder as it sells.

How quickly can I get boxes for a salon launch?

After proof approval, production takes 4–7 working days and free tracked UK mainland delivery takes 2–3 working days. Share your launch date when you request a quote.

Can a haircare brand's signature colour be matched across all five carton sizes?

Yes, by printing it as a Pantone spot colour rather than mixing it from CMYK, so the shade is the same on the travel size and the salon aerosol. Send the Pantone reference and it is set on the proof for every carton in the range.

What if the boxes do not fit my bottles?

We size from the measurements you approve on the proof, so please double-check them. If a misprint or damage occurs on our side, report it within 10 days for a reprint or refund.
