Custom Pasta Boxes with Display Windows

from £0.25 a boxPriced per job · low minimums

Custom pasta boxes let a shopper see the shape before they buy, which matters when your fusilli is bronze-cut and rough-textured and the supermarket version beside it is smooth and shiny. We make window cartons sized for long and short shapes, printed with your brand and the details a deli shelf needs.

Let the Pasta Sell Itself

Pasta made in small batches looks different from factory pasta. Bronze dies leave a matt, slightly rough surface that holds sauce, and slow-dried shapes keep a warm golden colour. Those qualities are exactly what persuades someone to pay more, but a fully printed box hides them. A window shows the texture, the colour and the shape in one glance, and shoppers trust what they can see.

A window also helps with unusual shapes. Regional varieties that most people have never heard of are easier to sell when the customer can look at them rather than read a name. Orecchiette, trofie, lumache and hand-pinched cavatelli all have their own character, and a good window frames it.

Window position matters. A long horizontal window on the front panel suits short shapes that settle into a layer, while a tall narrow window on a spaghetti carton shows the length and straightness of the strands. For filled or nested shapes like tagliatelle nests, a square window that lines up with one nest looks tidy and deliberate. p2 The same window logic applies to our noodle boxes with a clear panel for Asian producers.

Cartons for Long, Short and Nested Shapes

Different shapes need different boxes, and getting this right stops breakage and keeps the window full.

Tell us how the boxes will be filled. Hand-filled cartons can use a simple tuck end at both ends, while boxes filled on a small packing line may need a crash lock base that pops open square and stays put while pasta is poured in.

  • Long slim cartons for spaghetti, linguine and bucatini, with a reinforced end so strands do not snap when the box is dropped on its end.
  • Upright tuck end cartons for short shapes such as penne, rigatoni and fusilli, the classic grocery format.
  • Shallow trays with sleeves for nests of tagliatelle, pappardelle and fettuccine, which crush easily in a deep box.
  • Gift cartons that hold two or three bags of different shapes, popular in deli hampers.
  • Pillow or gable boxes for small gift portions and tasting packs at markets.

Pasta Box Sizes and Fill Weights

The best way to size a pasta box is to fill a prototype with your shape at your chosen weight and see how much space it takes. Short shapes vary hugely in bulk: a given weight of farfalle takes up much more room than the same weight of orzo. If the box is too large, the pasta settles to the bottom and the window shows empty space, which looks mean on the shelf.

Send us the shape, the weight per pack and, if possible, a filled bag or sample. We will suggest outside dimensions that keep the window full when the box stands upright. For long pasta, give us the strand length; most dried spaghetti fits a carton a little over 260 mm tall, but artisan lengths vary. p1 Loose pasta sold by weight can also go in kraft stand-up pouches with a window.

Windows, Liners and Freshness

Dried pasta is forgiving, but it still needs protecting from moisture, dust and insects in a store room. Most makers bag the pasta in a clear inner bag and place it in the carton, so the window shows the pasta through two clear layers. Others use a carton with a clear film patch glued behind the window opening, which keeps the pasta inside without a separate bag.

For fresh or semi-dried pasta that goes into a chiller, ask about a grease-resistant board and a film suitable for cold conditions. Food-contact grade board is available on request for cartons where pasta sits directly against the board. If you are unsure which route suits your product, tell us how it is stored and sold and we will advise. p1 Film patches are the same as those on our foldable window boxes page.

Print That Earns Its Space on a Deli Shelf

A deli shelf is crowded, so the front panel must work from a couple of metres away. Lead with your name and the shape, in large clear type. The window does the rest. Side panels are the place for the region or style, cooking time, ingredients, allergens, weight and a best-before area. If you sell through farm shops, a short line about who makes the pasta often helps more than any slogan.

Kraft board with one or two colours gives an artisan, handmade feel and suits small producers. White board with full-colour print suits brands with illustrated packaging or a range of colour-coded shapes. Matt finishes look more traditional; a spot gloss on the logo adds a little shine without going glossy all over. p1 Saffron and other small-batch extras in the range use our tiny boxes for saffron and spices.

Building a Range That Looks Like a Family

Most pasta makers sell several shapes, and the cartons should look related on the shelf. A common approach is one design with a different colour band or illustration for each shape. Buyers recognise the brand from a distance, and shoppers can find their favourite shape quickly.

We can print several designs in one run when the box size is shared, which keeps costs sensible for small producers. Where shapes need different box sizes, keep the layout and typeface consistent so the range still reads as one family even when the cartons are different heights.

Limited shapes and small-batch flours can be handled with a sticker or a small printed band on the standard carton, so you do not need a new box every time you try something different. p2 The printed food boxes page shows how a colour band carries across a range.

Fill a Prototype at Your Pack Weight and Stand It Up

The number that matters on a pasta box is bulk, not weight. Two hundred and fifty grams of farfalle takes almost twice the room of the same weight of orzo, and a window that shows empty space above the pasta looks mean. So weigh out your pack, pour it into any carton or bag, stand it upright and measure how high it settles; send that with the shape name and, for long pasta, the strand length.

Decide the window shape from the pasta: wide for short shapes, tall and slim for spaghetti, square for nests. Then send the side-panel text, including cooking time and allergens, with the logo. The custom quote arrives by email within one working day, from £0.25 a carton, with the minimum set per job so one new shape can be trialled in a short run.

The free proof shows the window and panels on the flat carton. Production takes 4 to 7 working days after approval and the cartons reach UK mainland addresses by free tracked delivery. Producers who sell to restaurants as well often add plain catering boxes with a label panel for the trade orders.

Pasta Boxes Questions

What buyers ask before ordering pasta boxes.

Can the window show pasta without an inner bag?

Yes. We glue a clear film patch behind the window opening so the pasta sits safely inside. Many makers still use an inner bag for extra protection in storage.

How do I stop spaghetti breaking in the box?

Choose a long carton cut close to the strand length and with reinforced ends. A snug fit stops the strands moving and snapping when the box is knocked.

What size box suits my shape?

It depends on how bulky the shape is at your pack weight. Send a filled bag or the weight and shape, and we will size the box so the window stays full.

Can I use the same box for several shapes?

Often yes, if the shapes have similar bulk at your pack weight. We can then print each design in the same run, which keeps the cost down.

Is kraft or white board better for artisan pasta?

Kraft gives a rustic, handmade look with simple print. White board suits full-colour illustrations and bright colour coding across a range.

Where should the window go?

On the front panel, shaped to suit the pasta. A wide window works for short shapes, a tall slim one for spaghetti and a square window for nests.

Can I add allergen and cooking information?

Yes. Side and back panels carry ingredients, allergens, cooking time and weight. You supply the wording and we lay it out clearly on the proof.

Do you make cartons for fresh pasta in the chiller?

We can make cartons with a grease-resistant board and a film suited to cold storage. Tell us how the pasta is packed and stored and we will advise.

Can I order a small run to test a new shape?

Yes. Minimums are low and quoted per job, so a trial run of one new shape is fine before you commit to more.

Can you supply shelf-ready outer cases?

Yes. Printed outer cases that open into a shelf display help when supplying delis and farm shops, as staff can put the whole case straight on the shelf.

Will you match the colours of my existing labels?

Send a Pantone reference or a printed sample and we will match it as closely as the board allows, showing the result on the proof. Kraft board mutes pale colours, so white board is safer for exact matches.
