Custom Cornflake Boxes Printed for Your Cereal Brand

from £0.25 a boxPriced per job · low minimums

Custom cornflake boxes are the tall, slim cartons that sit upright on a shelf and hold a lined bag of flakes inside. We print them to your size and artwork so a new cereal or an own-label range looks as settled on the shelf as the names beside it.

Why the Carton Shape Matters for Flakes

Cornflakes are light, bulky and fragile. A carton that is too shallow front to back crushes the bag against the sides, and the flakes break into crumbs long before the box is opened at the breakfast table. A carton that is too deep wastes shelf space and looks half empty once the contents settle. The classic tall, narrow shape exists because it lets a generous bag stand upright with its weight spread across the base rather than pressing on the flakes at the bottom.

That is why we size from the filled bag, not from a standard template. Fill a bag with the weight you plan to sell, seal it, let it settle for a minute and then measure the width, depth and height. We add a few millimetres of clearance on each side and a little more at the top so the bag slides in on a packing line or by hand without snagging on the flaps. Cereals sold in other shapes, such as cubes and gable tops, are listed on our cereal boxes in other formats page.

Printed Cornflake Boxes: Front, Back and Sides

A cereal carton has more printable area than almost any other food pack, and shoppers really do read it. The front panel carries the brand, the product name and one strong image of the bowl. The back panel is the one people look at over breakfast, so it suits a short brand story, a recipe idea or a puzzle for children. The side panels are where the nutrition table, ingredients, allergens and storage advice normally sit.

We print the outside in full colour CMYK, with the option of a spot colour if your brand red or yellow has to match exactly across every batch. Fine print such as ingredients needs to stay legible, so keep it in a dark ink on a light background and avoid placing it over a busy photograph. Our free design proof shows every panel flat, with the fold and glue lines marked, so you can check that nothing important falls across a crease.

  • Front panel: brand, product name, pack weight and a hero image
  • Back panel: story, recipe or activity for the breakfast table
  • Side panels: nutrition, ingredients, allergens and best-before area
  • Top and base flaps: barcode, batch code space or a short message

Board Choice for a Tall Cereal Carton

Most cornflake boxes are made from folding boxboard with a white printing surface, which gives bright colour and crisp small text. A grey-backed board is the most economical option and is what you see on many supermarket cereals; the inside is grey but nobody sees it because the flakes are in a bag. A fully white board costs a little more and suits brands that print a message on the inside or sell a premium granola-style flake.

Kraft board is the choice for a natural or organic-style look. The brown surface changes how colours print, so whites need a white ink layer and pale shades come out softer. Board thickness depends on the height of the carton and the pack weight; a tall box for a family pack needs a stiffer board than a small portion pack so the front panel does not bow on the shelf. Food-contact grade board is available on request if you plan to pack flakes without an inner bag, though most brands keep the bag for freshness. The gsm and stiffness figures are set out in our board grades for tall cartons guide.

Finishes That Survive the Cupboard

A cereal box is handled every morning for a week or two, often with damp hands, so the finish has to earn its place. A gloss aqueous coating brightens photographs of the bowl and wipes clean. A matt coating gives a calmer, more modern look and suits muesli-style or adult cereal ranges. Soft-touch lamination is less common on everyday cereal but works for gift packs and limited runs.

Spot gloss over the brand name or the bowl image is an affordable way to make the front panel catch the light on a supermarket shelf. Foil is possible too, though we tend to suggest it only for premium lines because it adds cost to a pack that is usually price sensitive. Our comparison of varnish and lamination shows how each handles cupboard scuffs.

Own Label, Start-Ups and Established Cereal Brands

Start-up cereal makers usually come to us when they move from a farmers' market bag to their first retail listing. They need a carton that looks credible next to big brands but in a quantity that does not fill a warehouse. Own-label buyers for independent grocers and farm shops order cartons with the shop's branding and the supplier's details on the side panel. Established brands order cornflake boxes for new flavours, promotional packs and trial sizes for hotels and cafés.

If you sell several cereals, think about a shared dieline. Keeping the same carton size across your range and changing only the artwork means each new flavour costs less to launch and stacks neatly with the others on the shelf. It also makes your packing line or packing table simpler, because one bag size fits every box. Sampling campaigns and hotel breakfasts use the smaller mini cereal boxes for sampling.

Measure the Filled Bag, Not the Empty One

A cereal carton is sized around the inner bag after it has been filled and sealed, because flakes settle and the bag bulges at the base. Fill one bag with your real pack weight, seal it, stand it up and measure its width, depth and height; then add 5 mm to each and that is the internal carton size. Decide if you want a tear strip or a tuck flap at the top, as the two use different dielines. Artwork for a cornflake box covers five panels, so send a vector logo, the front design, the nutrition table as text and a barcode file, and if you only have a brand mark we can lay the panels out for you. A custom quote arrives by email within one working day, with cartons from £0.25 and minimums quoted per job so a trial run is realistic. Production takes 4 to 7 working days after you approve the free proof and the cartons ship flat on free tracked UK mainland delivery. Porridge and oat packs in the same board are on our porridge oat boxes in the same board page.

Cornflake Boxes Questions

What buyers ask before ordering cornflake boxes.

Should I size the cornflake box from the empty bag or the filled bag?

Always from the filled and sealed bag after the flakes have settled. An empty bag tells you nothing about how wide it bulges once full. Measure width, depth and height and we add clearance so it slides in without tearing.

Do I need an inner bag inside the carton?

For cornflakes, yes in almost every case, because the bag keeps moisture out and the flakes crisp. The carton gives shelf presence and protection from crushing. If you want to pack without a bag, ask about food-contact grade board and we will advise on the options.

Can you add a tear-open strip to the top of the carton?

Yes. A perforated tear strip along the top lets customers open the box cleanly and then close it again with the tuck flap. We place the perforation so it does not cut through your logo or nutrition table.

Can I print a game or activity on the back panel?

Yes, the back panel is fully printable in colour, so puzzles, recipes and colouring areas all work well. Keep anything children write on away from coated finishes if you want it to take pencil, and tell us so we can suggest a suitable coating.

Will the barcode scan after printing on kraft board?

It can, but barcodes need strong contrast. On kraft we print a white box behind the bars and print the bars in black. Your free proof shows the barcode at actual size so your retailer can check it.

Why does my brand colour look different on kraft?

Kraft is brown, so inks printed directly on it take on a warmer, darker tone. A white ink base under key areas brings colours closer to how they look on white board. If exact colour matters, white board with a spot colour is the safer choice.

Can I use one carton size for several cereal flavours?

Yes, and it is the most cost-effective way to build a range. We keep one dieline and change the artwork per flavour. Each version still gets its own proof so you can check flavour names and allergen panels.

What is the smallest cornflake box you make?

We regularly make portion packs for hotels and cafés holding a single serving. The size is set by your portion bag, so send the filled bag dimensions and we will work from there.

How are the cartons delivered to my packing area?

They arrive flat, glued along the side seam, in shipping cartons. That keeps storage space low, and each box opens into a tube ready for the bag. Delivery is free and tracked to UK mainland addresses in 2 to 3 working days.

How soon can a new cereal launch with printed cartons?

Allow a day for the custom quote, then time for you to approve the free proof. Production is 4 to 7 working days after approval, followed by 2 to 3 working days for delivery.

What if some cartons are scuffed or misprinted when they arrive?

Photograph the affected boxes and send them to us within 10 days of delivery. We will reprint or refund those cartons so your packing schedule is not held up.
