Custom Cereal Boxes
Custom cereal boxes give a granola or breakfast cereal brand the tall, printed carton shoppers expect on a supermarket shelf, with an inner bag to keep the contents crisp. We size each carton to your fill weight, print it on every panel and send a free design proof before production.

The Box That Makes a Small Brand Look Shelf Ready
Most cereal and granola brands start in pouches or bags, sold at markets, online or in a few delis. Moving into a printed carton is often the step that gets a brand taken seriously by larger stockists. A carton stands upright, faces the shopper with a big front panel and sits in line with the brands already on the shelf. It looks like a product that belongs in the breakfast aisle.
Cartons also protect the contents better than a soft bag. Clusters of granola, flakes and puffs break easily, and a rigid box stops them being crushed in a shopping bag or a delivery van. The box also gives you six printed panels, which means space for your story, nutrition information, serving ideas and a recipe, as well as the brand itself.
For brands selling online, a carton also travels better inside a shipping box than a pouch does, arriving square and presentable rather than creased.
How a Cereal Carton Is Built
A standard cereal box is a tall tuck end carton made from folding board. The top and bottom close with flaps that are either tucked in or glued, depending on whether the box is packed by hand or on a machine. Inside, the cereal sits in a sealed bag, which keeps it fresh and stops crumbs getting into the corners of the box.
Small brands usually fill the inner bag by hand, seal it with a heat sealer, drop it into the carton and close the tuck flaps. Larger operations use cartons with glued ends that suit automated packing lines. Tell us how you pack and we will supply the right closure.
Some brands skip the inner bag and use a lined carton instead, but for most cereals the separate bag is the more reliable way to keep the contents crisp once the box has been opened.

Sizing Custom Cereal Boxes to Your Fill Weight
Cereals vary hugely in density. A box of dense granola clusters might hold 500 g in the same space that only takes 300 g of puffed rice or flakes. That is why we size cartons to your fill weight and product, rather than offering one standard size.
The best way to size a carton is to bag a full portion of your cereal, let it settle, and measure the bag. Allow a little space above the bag so the flaps close without crushing it. Shoppers do not like opening a box to find it half empty, so a snug fit looks more generous and avoids complaints.
Many brands sell more than one weight, such as a standard retail box and a smaller trial or snack size. Keeping the width and depth the same and changing only the height makes the range look consistent on a shelf.
Shelf height is the last check. Many shops have fixed shelf spacing in the breakfast aisle, so a very tall carton may need to lie flat or be stocked on a lower shelf. If you already have a stockist lined up, ask them for their maximum height before we finalise the size.
Designing All Six Panels
The front panel does most of the selling. A clear brand name, a product name that says what is inside and an appetising image or illustration are the essentials. Shoppers spend only a few seconds scanning a shelf, so simple, bold designs usually beat busy ones.
The side panels carry nutrition information, ingredients and allergen details, laid out as your food labelling adviser specifies. The back panel is often the most creative space, used for the brand story, a serving suggestion or a recipe. The top panel shows when boxes are stacked flat in a cupboard, so a logo there helps customers find you again.
If you plan to sell in larger shops, include a barcode and leave space for a best before date and batch code. These are often printed or stamped on the top or bottom flap at packing.
- Front: brand, product name, hero image
- Back: brand story, serving ideas or recipe
- Sides: nutrition, ingredients and allergens
- Top: logo for cupboard recognition
- Base or flap: barcode, batch and best before
Board, Inner Bags and Food Contact
White folding board gives the brightest colours and is the most common choice for cereal. Kraft board suits brands with a natural or artisan look, especially granola and muesli. The board does not usually touch the food because the cereal sits in an inner bag, but food-contact grade board is available on request if needed.
Inner bags come in clear or white film, or in glassine paper for brands that prefer a paper liner. Clear bags show the cereal when the box is opened. Heat-sealed bags keep the contents freshest, while fold-over bags are easier for customers to close after use.
Windows, Mini Boxes and Variety Packs
A die-cut window on the front panel lets shoppers see the cereal, which works brilliantly for colourful granola or large clusters. The window needs a film behind it and slightly reduces the space for printing, so plan the design around it.
Mini cereal boxes are popular for hotels, cafés, subscription boxes and sampling at events. A variety pack, with several mini boxes in a printed outer sleeve, is a good way to introduce a range and suits gifting. Shelf-ready trays, which hold several boxes and tear open on the shelf, can make stocking easier for retailers.
Ordering Cereal Cartons
Send us your product, fill weight, packing method and design brief. A custom quote arrives by email within one working day. Minimums are quoted per job, so a growing brand can order a run that matches its sales rather than a warehouse full of cartons.
A free design proof shows every panel flat so you can check text, barcodes and positions. After you approve it, cartons are printed and cut in 4–7 working days and delivered flat by free tracked courier to UK mainland addresses within 2–3 working days. Anything that turns up misprinted or crushed can be reported within 10 days, and we will reprint or refund it.

Cereal Boxes Questions
What buyers ask before ordering cereal boxes.
Do custom cereal boxes need an inner bag?
For most cereals, yes. A sealed inner bag keeps the cereal crisp and stops crumbs collecting in the box corners.
How do I work out the right carton size?
Bag a full portion of your cereal, let it settle and measure it. We size the carton around that bag with a little space for the flaps.
Why does my granola need a different box from a flake cereal?
Granola is much denser than flakes or puffs, so the same weight takes up less space. Sizing by fill weight avoids half-empty boxes.
Can the carton close without glue?
Yes. Tuck end cartons close by hand without glue, which suits small brands packing by hand.
Where should nutrition and allergen information go?
Usually on a side panel, in the layout your food labelling adviser specifies. We will check it fits on your proof.
Can I add a window to show the cereal?
A die-cut window with film works well for colourful granola. It slightly reduces the print area, so plan your design around it.
Do you make mini cereal boxes for sampling?
Yes. Mini boxes suit hotels, cafés, events and subscription boxes, and can be packed in a printed variety sleeve.
Can I print a recipe on the back panel?
Many brands use the back for a recipe or serving idea. It gives customers a reason to keep reading and buy again.
Is kraft board a good choice for cereal?
Kraft suits granola and muesli brands with a natural look. White board gives brighter colours for more playful designs.
How quickly can cartons be ready for a stockist launch?
Allow 4–7 working days for production after proof approval, plus 2–3 working days for delivery. Share your launch date and we will plan around it.
