Custom Bonbon Boxes
A hand-painted bonbon can take days to make, and it deserves a box that holds it perfectly still and shows it off the moment the lid lifts. Our custom bonbon boxes pair a printed outer box with a cavity tray sized to your moulds, for chocolatiers selling four, six, nine or more pieces.

Small Boxes for Precious Chocolates
Bonbons are moulded chocolates with a thin shell and a soft filling, often decorated with coloured cocoa butter so each one shines like a jewel. They are delicate. A bonbon that touches its neighbour can scuff, and one that rolls around in a box can crack. The packaging has to keep each piece separate, still and visible.
That is why most bonbon boxes are small and carefully divided. A box of four or six makes an affordable treat or a thank-you gift, while nine, twelve or sixteen pieces suits a bigger occasion. Chocolatiers often sell several box sizes side by side so customers can choose by budget.
The box is part of the gift. Customers buying handmade chocolates expect packaging that matches the craft inside, and a well-designed box helps justify the price of each piece. It also travels: a bonbon box is often carried to a dinner party or handed over at a meeting, so the brand on its lid reaches people who have never visited your shop. Many chocolatiers trace new customers back to a box someone else received. Larger selections of twelve or more pieces move to our luxury chocolate boxes for larger selections.
Cavity Trays Matched to Your Moulds
The tray inside the box is the most important part. It has a cavity for each bonbon, shaped and sized to match your moulds. Round domes, squares, hearts, half spheres and gems each need a different cavity shape. A cavity that is too large lets the bonbon slide; one that is too small presses on the shell.
Trays are usually made from plastic, card or moulded fibre. Clear or gold plastic trays show the chocolates clearly and give a classic look. Card trays with die-cut holes and paper cups suit a more natural style. Food-contact grade materials can be specified on request for anything that touches the chocolate directly. Trays on their own, for boxes you already have, are on the cavity inserts matched to moulds page.

Picking a Style for Bonbon Boxes
A two-piece box with a lift-off lid is the classic chocolate box. It is easy to open and close, and the lid can be printed or foiled. A drawer box, where the tray slides out of a sleeve, gives a lovely reveal and suits luxury bonbons. A box with a clear window in the lid lets customers see the chocolates without opening it, which is useful on a shop counter.
Rigid boxes feel substantial and premium, and suit higher-priced chocolates and gift sets. Folding cartons are lighter and cheaper, practical for chocolatiers selling larger quantities or posting orders. Both can look beautiful with the right print and finish.
For very small boxes, such as a box of two or four, a simple sleeve over a tray is often the neatest and most economical option. Depth deserves attention whatever the style. A tall decoration, such as a piped swirl or a gold leaf flourish, needs a deeper box than a flat-topped dome, and the lid must clear the highest bonbon by a few millimetres so it never touches the shine.
Colour, Foil and the Look of the Box
Many chocolatiers keep the outside of the box understated so the colourful bonbons inside get all the attention. Deep brown, black, cream and white are popular base colours, with a gold, copper or rose gold foil logo. Others use a bold brand colour to be seen on a shelf of brown boxes.
Textured papers, such as linen or felt-marked stock, add a crafted feel to rigid boxes. Embossing the logo adds a subtle raised detail that customers feel as they lift the box from the bag. A ribbon around the box, or a printed belly band showing the selection, finishes the look.
Inside the lid, a flavour key is very useful. A small printed card or a printed lid showing each bonbon with its flavour lets customers find their favourite and makes it easy to share the box.
Keeping Bonbons in Good Condition
Chocolate is sensitive to warmth, humidity and strong smells. The box cannot replace good storage, but it can help. A snug cavity tray stops movement, a well-fitting lid keeps dust out, and a coated board resists moisture. Some chocolatiers add a thin glassine or tissue sheet over the tray for extra protection, which also adds a pleasing layer to lift before the chocolates appear.
For posting bonbons, the box should go inside an insulated mailer whenever conditions are warm, and customers should be told to store the chocolates somewhere cool. Advise customers on how long the bonbons keep best, since fresh fillings have a shorter life than shop-bought chocolates. Printing a best before area on the base, or leaving space for a small date sticker, keeps that information with the box rather than on a card that may be thrown away. Dusted and rolled pieces that need the same care go in our truffle boxes with the same trays.
Selections, Pairings and Custom Assortments
Bonbon boxes are not only for mixed selections. Some chocolatiers offer themed boxes, such as a fruit selection, a nut selection or a pairing box made to go with a particular wine or whisky. Each theme can have its own printed band or sticker on the same base box, so you do not need a separate box design for each.
Corporate clients often ask for branded bonbon boxes for events and gifts. A box printed with the client's logo, or a standard box with a custom belly band, makes a memorable gift. If you plan to offer this service, ask about short runs of printed bands to go with your standard boxes. Pairing gifts with a bottle alongside use the deeper chocolate gift boxes for pairings.
Send a Photo of Your Mould With a Ruler Beside It
Bonbon boxes are built from the mould outwards, so the single most useful thing you can send is a photograph of your polycarbonate mould with a ruler laid across it, plus the height of a finished piece. From that we draw the cavity tray and the box follows. Decide the piece count next, with four, six and nine the usual sizes, and then the style: a two-piece lid-and-base for retail, a book-style magnetic box for gifting, a window carton for the counter. Artwork is a lid design and a foil or brand colour, sent as vector files, and we lay it on the actual box shape on a free proof. A custom quote arrives by email within one working day, minimums are agreed per job so a small chocolatier can order a modest number of each size, and the boxes are made in 4 to 7 working days once you approve the proof, with free tracked UK mainland delivery. If the cavity sizing is unclear, our guide to measuring pieces for a cavity tray explains what to record.

Bonbon Boxes Questions
What buyers ask before ordering bonbon boxes.
Can the cavity tray match my mould shape?
Yes. Send us the shape and size of your bonbons and we will size each cavity to fit. Hearts, domes, squares and gems all need different cavities.
Plastic or card trays: which is better?
Clear or gold plastic trays show the chocolates clearly and hold them firmly. Card trays with paper cups suit a natural, artisan style.
Can I include a flavour key?
Yes. A flavour key can be printed inside the lid or on a separate card, showing each bonbon with its flavour.
What box sizes do chocolatiers usually offer?
Four, six, nine, twelve and sixteen pieces are common. Offering two or three sizes lets customers choose by budget.
Can I post bonbons in these boxes?
Yes, inside an insulated mailer when it is warm out. Tell customers to store the chocolates somewhere cool on arrival.
Can I use one box for different themed selections?
Yes. A printed band or sticker on the same base box can mark each theme, so you avoid a separate box design for each.
Is the tray food-contact grade?
Food-contact grade materials can be specified on request for the tray and anything else that touches the chocolate. Tell us when you ask for the quote and it is written into the specification. The printed outer box does not touch the pieces.
Can a bonbon box lid have a window over the tray?
Yes, a clear window in the lid shows the painted shells without opening the box, which helps counter sales. Keep the window inside the lid edges so the box still stacks. The window shape is drawn on the proof.
When will a first run of bonbon boxes arrive?
Boxes and trays are made in four to seven working days after you approve the proof, then free tracked delivery reaches UK mainland addresses in two to three working days. Allow a few extra days at the start for the tray proof if your mould is unusual. Reorders skip the proof stage.
Can I order branded boxes for a corporate client?
Yes. A fully printed box or a standard box with a custom belly band both work well for corporate gifts.
