Crinkle Paper Shred for Hampers and Gift Boxes
Crinkle paper shred is paper cut into thin strips and folded into a zig-zag, so it springs up into a soft, bouncy bed. Hamper makers and subscription box brands use crinkle paper shred to cushion products and make an open box look full and inviting.

Why Zig-Zag Shred Beats Flat Strips
Flat shredded paper packs down quickly. It settles into a dense layer at the bottom of a box and does little to hold products in place. Crinkle shred is different: each strip is folded into a tight zig-zag, so it springs back when pressed and fills space with far less paper. A handful expands into a generous nest that cradles jars, bottles and small gifts.
That springiness is what makes it work as protection. Products pressed into crinkle shred are held on all sides, and the zig-zags absorb small knocks in transit. It is not a replacement for proper inserts with heavy glass, but for most gift boxes it holds things steady and fills the gaps.
It also looks good. Crinkle shred has texture and volume, and it catches the light in a way flat paper does not.
When a customer lifts the lid of a hamper and sees products nestled in a full bed of colourful shred, the box looks generous before they have picked anything up. The same products laid in an empty box with gaps around them look sparse, even though the contents are identical. That is why so many gift businesses treat shred as part of the product rather than as packing material.
Colours and Mixes
Crinkle paper shred comes in a wide range of colours, from natural kraft and white to black, gold, pink, sage, navy and red. Many brands choose a colour that matches their box or their logo, so the shred becomes part of the brand. Others use natural kraft for a rustic, artisan look.
Mixes of two or three colours add interest. Kraft with a touch of gold looks luxurious; pink and white feels soft and celebratory; black and gold feels bold. We can mix colours to your brief.
Metallic shreds and pearlescent papers are available for premium hampers and special editions. Many hamper makers match the shred to our branded tissue paper in matching colours.

How Much Crinkle Paper Shred to Use
The right amount depends on the box size and how much space the products leave. As a rough guide, a small gift box needs only a loose handful, while a large hamper needs several handfuls packed around the products. Fill the box loosely first, place the products, then add more shred around and between them until they no longer move.
Too little shred and products slide; too much and the lid will not close, or the box looks crammed and the products are hard to see. A light top layer over the products adds a final touch without hiding them.
Ordering by weight is the most practical way to buy. We can suggest a pack size based on how many boxes you fill each week.
Where Crinkle Shred Works Best
Hamper makers use it as a bed for food and drink, wrapping bottles and jars in a nest of shred. Subscription box brands use it to fill gaps and give each box a full, abundant look. Gift shops use it in gift baskets and to dress window displays. Florists add it to gift boxes with flowers. Candle and soap makers use it around their products in postal boxes.
Event planners use crinkle shred in favour boxes and to dress tables, and retailers use it in display crates and baskets on the shop floor.
Bakers use it under biscuits and cakes in gift tins, often with a sheet of greaseproof paper between the shred and the food.
Online sellers who post gifts directly to recipients use shred to add a finishing touch without the time it takes to wrap each item. A handful of shred and a printed card make an order feel like a present, which matters when the buyer is not there to hand it over in person. Heavier items that must not move at all use foam inserts for heavy items underneath the shred.
Packing Tips for Hampers and Gift Boxes
Start with a layer of shred in the base, then place the heaviest items first, at the back or the centre. Arrange lighter items around them. Fill gaps with more shred, pressing gently so it holds everything in place. Finish with a light layer on top.
For tall bottles, push shred down around the base so the bottle stands upright. For fragile items, wrap them in tissue first and then nest them in shred.
Keep shred in its bag or a lidded tub until needed, as it is light and can drift around a packing area.
When packing a box that will be posted, tuck shred firmly into the corners as well as around the products. Corners are where boxes take most knocks, and a well-filled corner absorbs the impact before it reaches the contents.
Storage and Handling
Crinkle shred is supplied compressed in bags or boxes, and it fluffs up when handled. Store it somewhere dry, as damp can flatten the zig-zag and soften the paper. A large tub on the packing bench makes it easy to grab a handful at a time.
A little shred goes a long way, so a bag lasts longer than you might expect. Keep an eye on stock levels in busy periods, such as gifting peaks, and reorder before you run out.
Many customers keep it instead. Shred is often reused for their own gift wrapping, for packing away ornaments or as bedding in a small pet's cage, so it continues to be useful long after the hamper is empty. Bottles that travel in a case are better held by slotted box partitions for bottles with shred on top.
Weigh One Packed Box to Size the Order
Shred is sold by weight, so the useful figure is how much a single packed box uses. Pack one hamper or gift box the way you like it, weigh the shred you used, and multiply by the boxes you fill in a month; that number is the quantity to ask for. Choose the colour or mix next, and if it needs to sit beside a brand colour, send a swatch rather than a screenshot so we can pick the nearest paper. Tell us whether the shred goes under food, because that changes the advice on liners. Crinkle shred has no artwork, so the quote is quick: it comes by email within one working day, from £0.25 depending on colour and quantity, with the minimum shown on the quote. Orders are packed 4 to 7 working days after you confirm and travel on free tracked delivery to UK mainland addresses, compressed in bags that fluff up when opened. Printed cards and folded leaflets that sit on top of the shred are on our folded product inserts for hampers page.

Crinkle Paper Shred Questions
What buyers ask before ordering crinkle paper shred.
What is the difference between crinkle shred and flat shred?
Crinkle shred is folded into a zig-zag, so it springs up and fills more space with less paper. Flat shred settles into a dense layer.
How much shred does a gift box need?
A small box needs a loose handful; a large hamper needs several. Fill until products no longer move.
Can crinkle shred come in a specific brand shade?
We stock a wide range of paper colours and can mix two or three to sit beside a brand colour. Send a swatch or a Pantone reference and we pick the closest papers. An exact match is not always possible because the paper is dyed, not printed.
Will crinkle shred protect glass bottles?
It cushions bottles and stops them sliding in a hamper that is carried by hand. For glass sent through the post, use a fitted insert or wrap the bottle as well and treat the shred as the finishing layer. Shred alone does not stop two bottles knocking together.
How is the shred packed?
It arrives compressed in bags or boxes by weight, and springs up when you handle it. A 1 kg bag fills far more boxes than its size suggests. Keep the bag closed between packing sessions.
Can I mix gold with kraft?
Yes, kraft with a little gold is one of the most popular mixes for hampers. We blend the two before packing so the ratio is even through the bag. Tell us the ratio you want, such as four parts kraft to one part gold.
Does crinkle shred go flat if stored for months?
It stays springy as long as it is kept dry and loosely packed in a bag or lidded tub. Damp is what flattens it, so keep it off a cold floor. Give a stored bag a shake before use and the zig-zag opens up again.
How much does crinkle paper shred cost?
Prices start from £0.25 depending on colour, paper and quantity. We send a custom quote for crinkle paper shred by email inside one working day.
Can I use it with food?
Place a sheet of greaseproof or glassine paper between the shred and any unwrapped food. Wrapped jars, tins and sealed packets can sit directly on the shred. We can supply the liner sheets in the same order.
How quickly can 10 kg of shred reach a hamper business?
A stock colour is packed within 4 to 7 working days of your confirmation, then free tracked UK mainland delivery takes 2 to 3 working days. There is no proof stage, so the order moves quickly. Mixed colours take the same time.
