Custom Child-Resistant E-Liquid Boxes
Custom child-resistant e-liquid boxes use a locking tray that needs a deliberate press and slide to open, adding a second barrier around your bottle on top of its child-resistant cap. We print them with your flavour artwork and plan the panels so the health warning UK rules require has room on the faces where it must appear.

Why Vape Brands Add a Locking Box
Every nicotine e-liquid bottle sold in the UK already needs a child-resistant, tamper-evident closure. Many brands go further and put the bottle in a carton that small hands struggle to open too. It reassures parents, it suits shops that are wary of what sits within reach, and it shows that the brand treats nicotine with care.
A locking carton also handles the practical side of selling liquids. It holds the bottle upright, keeps the label free of scuffs and of drips from neighbouring bottles, and gives you four printable faces for flavour artwork, which a bare bottle label cannot match.
The aim is a box that is awkward for a child yet easy for an adult who knows the trick. That balance comes down to the lock mechanism, the board it is cut from and how clearly the opening instructions are printed.
There is a trade reason as well. Distributors and shop buyers often ask how a range handles child safety before they list it, and a locking carton, backed by your own test report, gives you a straightforward answer. Brands that want the same tray in a natural board sometimes start from our kraft e-liquid boxes and add the lock.
Press-and-Slide Trays and Other Locking Styles
The most common style is a sleeve with a sliding tray inside. Small tabs on the tray catch on the sleeve, so the tray only slides out when you press a marked point on the side at the same time as pushing. A child pulling at the end gets nowhere; an adult following the arrow opens it in one move.
Other options include a tuck flap that locks behind a cut slot and needs two thumbs to release, or a reinforced sleeve with a die-cut push point. Each style has a different feel, so we recommend ordering plain samples and asking a few people who have never seen them to try opening the box. Pods and cartridges use a different locking tray, described on our vape pod boxes page.
- Sleeve and tray with press-and-slide release

Child-Resistant E-Liquid Boxes and Testing
Child-resistant performance is proven by testing the finished pack, with your bottle inside, against the relevant standard. We build boxes to the mechanism you choose and can make sample runs for that purpose, but test results come from the lab, not from us. If your marketing or your retailers require a tested child-resistant claim, arrange testing through an accredited lab and make sure the tested pack matches what you order from us.
Keep the board, the lock design and the bottle the same once a pack has been tested. A change to any one of them can change how the pack behaves, so let us know before swapping suppliers or bottle shapes and we will keep the dieline consistent. Our guide to board weights and grades explains why the lock tabs need the heavier SBS board.
Making Room for Warnings and Product Information
Nicotine-containing liquids sold in the UK fall under the Tobacco and Related Products Regulations, so they must carry UK TRPR health warnings (often called TPD) on the main surfaces, along with an ingredients list, nicotine content and the other details the regulations set out. The wording and its size are your responsibility; our job is to plan the panels so the required health warning fits where it has to, with enough of each face kept clear for it.
Send us your final legal text early. Warnings and information leaflets take up more room than people expect, and it is far easier to size the box around them than to squeeze them into artwork that has already been signed off. Where a leaflet is required, the tray can hold it folded under or beside the bottle.
Nicotine-free shortfills sit outside those nicotine rules, but printing the strength, volume and contents clearly still helps retailers shelve them correctly and customers pick the right bottle. The same panel planning goes into the counter display boxes for vape ranges that hold the cartons in a shop.
Sizing Around the Bottle
Measure the bottle with its cap fitted, including any dropper tip or nozzle, and tell us whether it has a tamper band or a label that wraps around a shoulder. We size the tray so the bottle sits snugly without rubbing the label, and add a small card cradle if the bottle is narrower than the box.
Shortfill bottles that are sold with space for a nicotine shot are taller and wider than small bottles, so they usually need their own box size. If you sell multi-bottle packs, an insert with separate cut-outs keeps each bottle apart and stops caps from being knocked.
Think about the shelf as well as the bottle. A box that is a touch taller than the bottle leaves room for a hang tab or a tamper seal on top, and boxes that share the same footprint across your range line up neatly in a display unit. If you plan to sell gift sets or multi-flavour bundles later, tell us now so the single box size fits neatly inside a larger outer. Our step-by-step bottle measuring guide covers dropper tips and shoulder labels.
Flavour Artwork That Sells
Vape shops line up dozens of flavours side by side, and customers often pick by colour before they read a word. Give each flavour family a clear colour code, keep your logo in the same place on every box, and put the flavour name in large type on the front and on the spine so it reads when the boxes are stacked.
Finishes help a range feel premium. Soft-touch lamination with a spot gloss logo, holographic foil for a fruit range or a metallic ink for menthol lines all catch shop lighting. Steer clear of imagery that could appeal to children, such as cartoon characters or designs that mimic sweets packaging; it invites trouble with regulators and retailers, and it contradicts the purpose of a child-resistant pack.
Send the Warning Text Before the Bottle
For a locking e-liquid box the order sequence is the reverse of most cartons: the legal text comes first, the bottle second, the artwork last. Email the final warning wording and any leaflet requirement as soon as you have it, because it fixes how much of each face is left for flavour artwork. Then send the bottle measurements with the cap and nozzle fitted, the lock style you prefer and the number of flavours, and say if shortfills are in the range so they get their own size.
A custom quote comes back by email within one working day, with minimums set per flavour so slow sellers are not overstocked. The free proof shows the dieline, the press point of the lock and the warning panels at size. Production takes 4–7 working days after approval and tracked delivery to UK mainland addresses is free and takes 2–3 working days. Boxes that arrive misprinted or damaged are reprinted or refunded when reported within 10 days. Order a small run first, test the lock with real customers, then reorder on the same dieline; the sleeve e-liquid boxes without a lock use the same panels if you later add a nicotine-free line.

Child-Resistant E-Liquid Boxes Questions
What buyers ask before ordering Child-Resistant E-Liquid boxes.
Do your boxes replace a child-resistant bottle cap?
No. In the UK a nicotine e-liquid bottle still needs its own child-resistant, tamper-evident closure. The locking box adds a second barrier around it.
Can I describe the box as child-resistant on my listings?
Only once the finished pack, with your bottle inside, has passed testing at an accredited lab. We make the boxes and sample runs for that test, and you keep the test report for your records.
How does a press-and-slide tray open?
The user presses a marked point on the sleeve while pushing the tray out. Without the press, small tabs hold the tray in place. We print arrows so adults can see how it works.
Can the required health warning fit on a small e-liquid box?
Yes, if we plan for it from the start. Send the final warning wording with your bottle size and we will size the panels so it sits on the faces where it has to appear, at the size you need.
Can the tray hold an information leaflet?
Yes. We can add a slot or space for a folded leaflet beside or under the bottle. Give us the folded leaflet size with your bottle size.
Will the lock wear out after repeated opening?
We use a heavier board where the lock takes the strain, so it keeps working through normal use. Tell us if the box will be opened very often, such as for tester bottles.
Can I print each flavour in a different colour?
Yes. Most brands use one dieline and change the colour and artwork per flavour. Minimums are set per design and kept low.
Is there any artwork I should avoid?
Avoid anything that could appeal to children, such as cartoon characters or designs that copy sweets packaging. It is a regulatory risk and many retailers will refuse it.
Do you make locking boxes for shortfills?
Yes. Shortfill bottles are larger, so they need their own size. Measure the bottle with its cap on and send us the dimensions.
What if I change bottle supplier after testing?
Tell us before you order. A different bottle shape can change how the pack fits and opens, so we may need to adjust the tray, and you may need to retest.
What does a run of locking e-liquid boxes cost?
Prices start from £0.25 a box and depend on lock style, size and finish. Send your bottle size, flavour count and quantity for a custom quote by email within one working day.
How long does an order of locking e-liquid boxes take?
Production takes 4 to 7 working days after you approve the free design proof, then free tracked delivery to UK mainland addresses takes 2 to 3 working days. Misprints or damage reported within 10 days are reprinted or refunded.
