Custom Cardboard Carriers
Custom cardboard carriers put a handle on things that are awkward to hold: a round of coffees, a pair of wine bottles, a six-pack of craft beer or a small pet on the way home. We make them in folding board or corrugated, printed with your brand, and sized around what goes inside.

One Box, Many Jobs
The idea is simple. A carrier is a box with a handle cut or built into the top, so the customer can lift several items with one hand and keep the other free for a door, a phone or a child. What changes from one business to another is what goes inside and how much it weighs, and that decides the board, the handle style and the dividers.
A café needs something light that holds four hot cups steady. A brewery needs a sturdy six-bottle basket that will not tear when it swings. A pet shop needs a ventilated box that a rabbit or kitten can travel in for a short trip home. All three are cardboard carriers, but they are very different boxes.
Because the carrier is often the last thing a customer touches before leaving, it shapes how they remember the visit. A flimsy tray that buckles halfway to the car undoes the good impression of a great coffee or a carefully chosen bottle. A solid, well-printed carrier does the opposite and often gets reused, which keeps your name in sight. When the load is a single box rather than loose items, our cardboard boxes with built-in handles do the same job.
Carrier Styles We Make
Most orders fall into one of a handful of structures. Tell us what you are carrying and we will suggest which one suits it, or combine features from two.
If you are unsure, send a photo of the items grouped the way you want them carried. It often tells us more than a list of measurements, especially for mixed gift sets where jars, bottles and boxes share one carrier.
- Basket carriers with a central handle and divided cells for bottles
- Gable-top carriers where the two top panels lock into a handle
- Cup carriers with die-cut holes that grip two or four takeaway cups
- Window carriers that show the bottles or jars inside
- Ventilated carriers with air holes for small animals
- Wrap-around carriers that hold cans with a top grip

Weight, Handles and Board Strength
The handle is where carriers fail. Six full beer bottles weigh well over two kilos, and all of that hangs from a few square centimetres of board. For heavy loads we use corrugated board or a double layer of folding board at the handle, with rounded cut-outs so there are no corners for a tear to start.
Light loads, such as two coffees or a pair of small jars, are fine in a single layer of folding board. It prints sharply and folds flat, which suits a busy counter. We will suggest the right board when you tell us the contents and total weight.
Handle comfort deserves a thought as well. A slot that is too narrow digs into fingers when the load is heavy, so we make handle holes wide enough for four fingers and round off the top edge. For gift carriers, a rope or ribbon handle threaded through the top can replace a cut-out altogether and adds a premium touch. The difference between board grades is explained in our board strengths explained guide.
Custom Cardboard Carriers for Drinks
Drinks are the most common reason people order carriers. Craft breweries and cider makers use six-pack and four-pack baskets to sell bottles off the shelf in multiples, often with a window in the side so the labels show through. Wine shops and gift businesses prefer two- or three-bottle carriers with a tall gable handle that looks smart as a present.
For takeaway coffee, flat-pack cup carriers with die-cut holes keep cups upright on the way back to the office. Measure the base and widest point of your largest cup and we will size the holes so lids do not catch.
Bottle gifts benefit from a divider that holds each bottle apart, so glass does not knock together as the carrier swings. Dividers can be printed too, which is a nice way to add tasting notes or a short story about the producer without crowding the outside of the pack. Breweries selling four-packs usually choose the open-top can carriers for four-packs.
Printing and Finishing
A carrier is a moving advertisement. People carry it down the street and set it on a table, so it is worth printing on every outside face. Many breweries print a different colour or illustration for each beer, while keeping the same carrier shape, which makes a shelf of mixed packs look lively.
Gloss or matt coating protects the print from condensation and spills, which matters when bottles come straight from a fridge. Kraft board printed in a single dark ink suits a rustic, handmade feel and hides scuffs from handling.
If you change products often, consider printing the carrier with your brand only and adding a product sticker for each variety. One printed carrier then serves the whole range, and stickers can be changed every week if needed. This works well for farm shops and delis whose stock shifts with what is available. Our print finishes compared page shows how each coating handles condensation marks.
Sizing a Carrier
Measure the items exactly as they will be packed, including caps, corks and lids. For bottles, note the diameter at the widest point and the total height. For cups, measure the base, the rim and the height with the lid on. Give us the number of items and how they should be arranged, for example three by two or two by two.
Leave a little room above the tallest item so the handle can be gripped without fingers pressing on caps. We set this on the dieline and show it clearly on the proof.
Where items differ slightly, such as bottles from different suppliers, size the cells for the largest and add a thin card collar for the smaller ones. It keeps one carrier in stock rather than three, and the customer never notices the difference. If you are unsure where to measure from, follow our steps for measuring items for a carrier.
Load a Prototype and Lift It by the Handle
The best test of a carrier is a real load, so give us the total weight of what it will carry, not just the item sizes. Four full pint cans weigh more than people expect, and two wine bottles with a gift bag more again. Tell us the heaviest combination and we specify the board and the handle reinforcement for that. Decide whether the handle is die-cut into the board or a separate rope or tape handle, because the first folds flat and the second is fitted on the counter. Measure the items grouped as they will be carried, or photograph them together, and we draw the carrier around that footprint. Artwork is usually a logo and one or two flat colours on kraft or white. A quote comes by email within one working day, the proof is free and shows the flat carrier with the handle cut in place, and production takes 4 to 7 working days after approval. UK mainland delivery is free and tracked, with carriers packed flat. Takeaway cups go in our drinks carriers for takeaway cups instead.

Cardboard Carriers Questions
What buyers ask before ordering cardboard carriers.
How much weight can a cardboard carrier hold?
It depends on the board and handle design. Folding board suits light loads like two coffees, while corrugated with a reinforced handle can carry six full bottles comfortably. Tell us the total weight and we will specify the board to match.
Can a carrier hold both bottles and cans?
A single carrier is best sized for one container type, because bottles and cans differ in diameter and height. If you sell both, two carriers with a shared print design usually works better than a compromise size.
Will condensation from cold bottles soften the board?
A coating on the outside and a sensible board weight help a lot. Carriers will still soften if left in a puddle, but normal condensation from fridge-cold bottles is handled well by coated board.
Can I add a window to show the labels?
Yes, a side window lets the bottle or can labels show through. It is popular with breweries selling mixed packs. We keep the window away from the handle so strength is not affected.
Are cup carriers suitable for hot drinks?
Yes, the die-cut holes grip the cup and keep it upright. Measure your largest cup with its lid so the holes are sized correctly. The carrier holds the cups, so it does not touch the hot liquid.
Can you make ventilated carriers for small animals?
We make ventilated carriers in corrugated board with air holes on several sides, intended for short trips home. Tell us the size of the animal and we will set the box and hole positions.
Do carriers arrive ready to use?
Most arrive flat and fold up in seconds. Some basket styles can be supplied with glued bases that pop open, which saves time on a busy bar or counter. We include this option in the custom quote.
Can each beer have its own printed carrier?
Yes. Many breweries keep the same carrier shape and print a different design for each beer. Several designs can often be produced together on one order.
How do I measure for a wine bottle carrier?
Measure the bottle's widest diameter and total height including the cork or cap. Wine bottles vary more than people expect, so measure the tallest you sell. We add clearance and show it on the proof.
Can carriers be ready in time for a beer festival?
Usually, if you plan a couple of weeks ahead. The custom quote comes back within one working day, production takes 4 to 7 working days after you approve the proof, and free tracked UK mainland delivery takes another 2 to 3 working days. Leave time to check the proof calmly.
Can I order a small run for an event bar?
Yes, minimums are low and quoted per job, so short runs for festivals and pop-up bars are possible. Order early enough to allow for the proof and production time.
