Custom Coffee Pod Boxes
Custom coffee pod boxes have one job on a supermarket or café shelf: tell a shopper in a second which roast this is, how strong it is and whether it fits their machine. We build them around your capsule size and pack count, then print the flavour story, strength scale and compatibility notes so they are easy to read at arm's length.

What Shoppers Look For on a Pod Box
Pod buyers are creatures of habit, and they scan for three things: the machine their pods fit, the intensity, and the flavour. If those are hard to find, they reach for the brand they already know. A good pod box puts compatibility near the top of the front panel, shows the strength as a simple scale or number, and gives the flavour a short, vivid description rather than a paragraph.
Colour does a lot of the work. Roasters often give each blend its own colour so a shelf of their boxes reads like a palette, and returning customers can grab their favourite by shade alone. The box shape stays the same across the range so the shelf looks orderly and production stays simple.
The back and sides carry the detail: origin, tasting notes, brewing size, best-before area and any disposal guidance for the capsules themselves, which comes from the capsule maker rather than from us.
Allergen and dietary notes, such as whether a flavoured pod contains nuts or milk powder, should sit in a consistent spot on the back so customers who need them always know where to check. Ground coffee from the same blends usually sits beside the pods in printed coffee boxes for bags that share the colour code.
Box Formats for Capsules
Pods are usually packed in a single row in a long, slim box, or in two rows in a squarer box. The choice depends on how many pods you sell per pack and how the box will sit on the shelf. Packs that are opened once a day do well as easy-tear boxes with a perforated strip so the row of pods stays tidy.
- Slim single-row sleeve: the classic ten-pod format that stands upright on a shelf
- Double-row carton: holds a larger pack in a squarer footprint, good for subscription refills
- Tear-open dispenser box: a perforated panel turns the box into a dispenser on the worktop
- Tuck end carton with hang tab: suits peg displays in cafés and convenience shops
- Multi-flavour taster box: compartments for several blends in one gift-style pack

Sizing Coffee Pod Boxes to Your Capsules
Capsules vary more than people expect. Aluminium and plastic pods for different machine systems differ in diameter, height and the shape of the rim, and some paper-based capsules are slightly larger again. Send us a sample pod or exact measurements from your capsule supplier and we size the box around them.
Pods need to sit snugly so they do not rattle or dent the foil lids in transit. We usually allow a millimetre or two around the diameter and a small gap above the stack. For a dispenser box, the tear panel is positioned so pods slide out one at a time without the whole stack tipping.
If you plan to sell through larger retailers, check their shelf depth and any case-pack requirements first. It is easier to size a box once for both your website and a retail listing than to redesign later. Our guide to measuring products for packaging explains how we allow for the capsule rim.
Board, Print and Finish
Pod boxes are almost always made from folding boxboard, which folds crisply, prints sharply and is light enough to keep postage low for online orders. White-lined board shows bright blend colours at their best. Kraft board suits speciality roasters with a craft, hand-roasted image and pairs well with one or two strong ink colours.
Finishes give a small box more presence. Matt lamination gives a calm, premium look; a spot gloss on the blend name or a coffee bean illustration catches the light. Foil stamping is common on limited editions and gift packs. Keep text at a sensible size, as pod boxes are small and long tasting notes printed tiny become unreadable.
Inside print is worth a thought as well. The underside of the lid flap is seen every time a pod is taken out, so a brewing tip, a short note from the roaster or a prompt to try another blend gets read far more often than anything on the base. The board grades and finishes we use page shows matt and spot gloss side by side.
Planning a Range Rather Than a Box
Most roasters launch with a few blends and add more over time, so design a system rather than a single box. Fix the layout: logo position, compatibility line, strength scale, flavour name and colour block. Each new blend then only needs a new colour, a name and a few tasting notes, which keeps your shelf consistent and makes each new proof quick to check.
Printing several blends together is usually more economical than printing them one at a time. We can quote a combined run with each design in its own quantity, so a best seller and a newer blend can be printed together without overstocking the slower one.
If you sell decaf, make it unmistakable. A different colour band or a clear word on the front panel saves complaints from customers who grab the wrong box in a hurry.
A shared layout also makes life easier for retail buyers, who like ranges that merchandise neatly in a block. Dispenser packs that open along a perforation share the build of our easy-tear boxes for worktops.
Selling Pods Online and by Subscription
For subscription and web orders, boxes travel inside a mailer, so they need to be robust rather than showy on the outside of the parcel. Many brands print the pod boxes in full colour and send them in a plain or one-colour shipping box, letting the retail box provide the unboxing moment.
A tear-open dispenser box is a favourite with subscribers because it lives on the kitchen counter beside the machine. That makes it a constant reminder of your brand, and a printed web address or reorder prompt on the side is a sensible addition.
Subscription brands also tend to rotate a guest blend each month. A shared box with a blank colour band, finished with a printed sleeve or a sticker for the guest coffee, avoids a fresh print run for every rotation and keeps the monthly parcel looking consistent.
Post Us One Pod From Each Capsule Type
Capsules differ by a millimetre or two between systems, and that is enough to make pods rattle or dent their foil lids, so the first step is to post one pod of each type you fill, or send the capsule supplier's drawing. Then fix the pack count, because ten pods in a single row and twenty in a double row are different boxes, and tell us which blends share a dieline so the range is quoted as one run with each design in its own quantity.
Mark the compatibility line, the strength scale and a blank best-before panel on your artwork before the proof. A custom quote comes back by email within one working day with prices from £0.25 a box, and the free proof shows each blend on the flat dieline and as a folded mock-up. Production takes 4–7 working days after approval and tracked delivery to UK mainland addresses is free, arriving flat and bundled by design in 2–3 working days. Boxes that arrive misprinted or damaged are reprinted or refunded when reported within 10 days. Roasters who sell whole bean beside pods usually order printed coffee bags with a valve in the same colours.

Coffee Pod Boxes Questions
What buyers ask before ordering coffee pod boxes.
Can you size the box to my exact capsule?
Yes. Send a sample pod or the capsule supplier's measurements and we size the box around them, allowing a small gap so pods slide in without rattling.
How should I show strength on the box?
A short numbered or dotted scale on the front panel is the clearest. Keep it in the same place on every blend so customers learn where to look.
Can the box work as a dispenser?
Yes. A perforated tear panel lets the customer open one end and slide pods out one at a time, so the box lives beside the machine.
Can I print several blends in one order?
Yes, and it is usually more economical. We quote a combined run with each blend in its own quantity.
Where does the best-before date go on a slim ten-pod sleeve?
On one end flap or the base, left unlaminated so an inkjet or sticker holds. On a 40 mm wide sleeve the end flap is the easiest spot for a date gun. Tell us how you mark dates and we size the panel to suit.
Which finish suits a speciality roaster?
Kraft board with one or two strong colours gives a craft look. White board with matt lamination and a spot gloss feels more polished and premium.
Can a double-row pod carton go straight into a padded envelope?
A twenty-pod carton in standard folding board copes with a padded envelope for short journeys, but the corners can soften. For subscription parcels we suggest a heavier board or a mailer-style pod box so the foil lids stay undented. Tell us the courier and we pick the grade.
Can you print the capsule maker's disposal guidance?
We can print whatever disposal guidance your capsule supplier provides. The wording comes from them, not from us.
How do I make decaf unmistakable on the shelf?
Use a distinct colour band or a large decaf label on the front. It prevents customers picking up the wrong box by mistake.
Can a taster box hold several blends separately?
Yes. A card insert with compartments keeps each blend in its own row, with the flavour printed beside it.
Can pod boxes be ready for a retail listing deadline?
Usually, if the capsule size is confirmed early. Once the proof is approved, boxes take 4 to 7 working days to produce and 2 to 3 working days to reach you, so build that into the listing timeline.
