Custom Small Paper Tubes
Custom small paper tubes give tiny products a solid, cylindrical home that feels far more considered than a little carton. We make them in push-up, lift-off lid and telescopic styles for lip balms, solid perfumes, samples, jewellery and loose tea, wrapped in your print from top to bottom.

Why Small Brands Like Small Paper Tubes
A small product in a small box can feel like an afterthought. A paper tube changes that. The round shape is unusual on a shelf, it sits comfortably in the hand and the lid comes off with a gentle, satisfying resistance as air escapes. For a lip balm, a pair of earrings or a sachet of tea, that moment adds perceived value that a folding carton rarely matches.
Tubes are also forgiving to design for. The print runs continuously around the cylinder, so there are no awkward fold lines breaking up a pattern. A simple label-style band, a full wraparound illustration or a solid colour with a foiled logo all look intentional. Makers selling at markets often find tubes become a recognisable part of their brand, with customers asking for the product in the tube.
There is a practical side too. Tubes stand upright in a basket or on a narrow shelf, they roll less than you might expect once the product is inside, and they survive being dropped into a handbag far better than a thin carton. Customers often keep an empty tube for hair ties, earrings or spare change, so your brand stays in sight long after the product is used up. Many customers order these alongside our printed paper tubes, printed in the same colours.
Push-Up, Lift-Off and Telescopic Tubes
Push-up tubes are the familiar format for solid lip balms, solid perfumes, deodorant sticks and body balms. The product is poured or set into the tube and the user pushes it up from the base with a thumb, the mechanism our push-up paper tubes page explains in detail. These tubes have a coated inner surface so oils do not soak into the board, and the base disc slides smoothly as the product is used.
Lift-off lid tubes have a separate lid that fits over the body, and they suit anything placed inside rather than filled directly, such as jewellery, rolled tea, sample vials or small gifts. Telescopic tubes are two tubes that slide one inside the other, which allows a tighter, smoother closure and a slightly more premium feel. A shoulder tube has an inner collar that shows a band of contrasting colour when the lid is lifted.

Getting the Diameter and Height Right
For push-up tubes, the inside diameter determines how much product fits and how it feels to use. A lip balm tube is typically around 20 mm across, while a body balm stick may be 40 mm or more; the guide to measuring your product covers how to work from a fill volume. Height affects volume and how far the product can be pushed up. Tell us the fill volume you want and we can suggest a diameter and height that suit it.
For lift-off tubes, measure the item that goes inside, including any pouch, card or tissue, and add a millimetre or two of clearance on the diameter and a few millimetres on the height. Earrings on a small card, for example, need a tube wide enough for the card rather than the earrings themselves.
Think about how many products you will show together. A row of tubes on a counter looks most striking when the heights match, so if you sell a small and a large size, keeping the same diameter and changing only the height gives a tidy, related family. Changing both dimensions can make the range look less connected.
Print, Labels and Finishes on Small Paper Tubes
Small paper tubes are usually wrapped in printed paper, which gives the best colour and detail. The wrap can be full colour, a single spot colour or unprinted coloured paper, and the print and finish options compared page shows foil on each. Because the tube is small, text needs to stay legible, so ingredients and legal information should be planned carefully on the back half of the wrap.
Matt and soft-touch finishes feel smooth in the hand and suit natural and luxury products. Gloss brings out bright colours. Foil stamping on the lid or around the body adds a metallic accent, and embossing on the lid top gives a tactile logo. Kraft paper wraps give a natural, handmade look that suits small batch makers.
Colour coding is especially useful on tubes. If you make several flavours of lip balm or scents of solid perfume, keep one layout and change the wrap colour for each variant. Customers can then find their favourite at a glance, and your stall or shelf reads as a planned collection rather than a mix of separate items.
Products That Fit
Lip balms, solid perfumes and solid cologne, tinted balms, body butter sticks, beard balms and solid deodorants are the classic push-up products. Lift-off tubes hold earrings, rings and bracelets, sample vials, single tea servings, incense, seeds, small candles, pens and cosmetic brushes, with the larger paper tubes with lids taking over above 60 mm. Some confectioners use them for chocolate coins or small sweets, and stationery brands use them for pencils and stamps.
A tube can also work as a gift tube for a rolled voucher, a small art print or a scroll-style invitation, given a slimmer, longer format than most products need.
Filling and Assembling
Push-up tubes are usually filled hot, with the product poured into the tube and left to set. Ask us about the tube's resistance to heat and oil for your formula, and test a small batch before committing to a large run, as you would with a cosmetic squeeze tube. Some makers prefer to fill from the base, others from the top; the tube can be supplied to suit your process.
Lift-off tubes arrive assembled with the lid fitted, ready to fill. A small tamper-evident sticker across the join reassures buyers that the tube has not been opened.
If you pack by hand, order a few extra tubes beyond your batch size. The first few fills of any new product tend to be test runs, and having spares means you can perfect the pour without running short for the real batch.
Tell Us the Fill Volume and the Pour Temperature Before the Diameter
Small tubes are sized backwards from the product. For a push-up balm, the fill volume in millilitres and the temperature you pour at matter more than any diameter you have in mind, because a 20 mm tube holds a fixed amount per millimetre of height and a hot pour needs a coated liner that will not soften. Give us both and we can suggest the diameter and height that fills cleanly. For lift-off tubes, measure the jewellery card, vial or pouch that goes inside rather than the item itself, and add a few millimetres so the lid closes.
Send the product, the tube style, the size or fill volume and the quantity, and a custom quote comes by email within one working day, minimums quoted per job so a small batch maker is not forced into a large run. A free design proof shows the wrap laid flat with the tube dimensions marked. Production takes 4 to 7 working days after approval and free tracked UK mainland delivery lands in 2 to 3 working days. Makers who sell a larger balm pot often add custom paper tubes in a wider size to the same order.

Small Paper Tubes Questions
What buyers ask before ordering small paper tubes.
Can lip balm be poured directly into a small paper tube?
Yes, push-up tubes have a coated inner surface for hot filling. Test a small batch with your formula before a large run.
What diameter do I need for a lip balm?
Lip balm tubes are typically around 20 mm across. Tell us the fill volume and we can suggest a matching diameter and height.
Which style suits jewellery?
A lift-off lid or telescopic tube. Size it to the jewellery card or pouch rather than the piece itself.
Can the tube be fully printed all the way round?
Yes. The wrap is printed flat and wrapped around the tube, so the design runs continuously.
How do I fit ingredients on such a small tube?
Use the back half of the wrap for legal text at a readable size. We will flag anything that looks too small on the proof.
Can I add a foil logo on the lid?
Yes. Foil stamping or embossing on the lid top is a popular way to add a premium touch.
Can I seal the tube so buyers know it has not been opened?
A small tamper-evident sticker across the lid join does this simply and neatly. For push-up tubes a shrink band or a paper seal over the top cap does the same job.
Do lift-off tubes arrive assembled?
Yes. They arrive with the lid fitted, ready to fill.
Are small paper tubes sturdy enough to post?
They are strong for their size, but should be posted in a small mailer or padded envelope to avoid crushing. A tube posted loose in a padded bag can still dent at the lid edge.
What if a batch of balm tubes arrives dented?
Send us a photo within 10 days of delivery and any dented or misprinted tubes are reprinted or refunded. Do not fill a dented push-up tube, because the base will not travel smoothly.
