Custom Small Cookie Boxes

from £0.25 a boxPriced per job · low minimums

Custom small cookie boxes are compact cartons, around 100 mm square, made to hold one large cookie or two smaller ones. Bakeries use them for single sales, wedding favours, tasting samples and the little extra that turns a coffee into a treat.

The Case for a Box Built for One or Two

A single cookie in a paper bag looks like a snack. The same cookie in a small printed box looks like a gift. That difference lets a bakery charge more, sell cookies as presents and give out samples that people actually remember. It is also kinder to the cookie: a box stops a soft, chunky bake getting squashed at the bottom of a handbag.

Small boxes suit the way many people buy cookies now. A customer picks up one indulgent cookie with a coffee, a parent buys two for the school run, a café adds one to every afternoon tea order. A larger box built for six or twelve is too big for these moments, while a bag feels throwaway. A 100 mm box fills the gap neatly.

The format is also useful for businesses outside baking. Hotels leave a boxed cookie on the pillow; estate agents give one to new homeowners; event companies hand them out at registration desks.

Styles Bakers Reach For

The tuck top box with a hinged lid is the most popular choice. It folds from flat with no glue, has a lid that opens like a small chest, and can be closed with a sticker for a sealed feel. A box with a window in the lid shows off the cookie and works especially well for decorated biscuits with royal icing.

A two-piece lid and base box feels more premium and suits luxury bakeries and wedding favours. Gable boxes with a carry handle are fun for children's parties. A small pillow box can hold a pair of thin biscuits or macarons but is less suited to thick cookies.

Whichever style you choose, a grease-resistant liner or a glassine bag inside keeps butter away from the board.

Matching the Box to Your Cookie

Measure the diameter of your largest cookie and its thickness at the thickest point. Thick bakery-style cookies, often 90 to 100 mm across and 20 to 30 mm tall, fit a box around 105 x 105 x 40 mm with a little space. Thinner biscuits stack two high in a box around 90 x 90 x 35 mm. Decorated biscuits that must not touch each other need one per box, or an insert that holds two side by side.

Leave a few millimetres around the cookie but not so much that it slides. A loose cookie rattles, breaks edges and looks smaller than it is. If your bakes vary in size, base the box on the largest and use a paper doily or a square of greaseproof to fill the gap.

Test with a fresh bake. Cookies spread and rise differently from batch to batch, and a box that fits on paper may not fit on the day.

Gluten-free and vegan cookies are often more crumbly, so a snug fit matters even more for them. p3 The guide to measuring a product covers items that vary between batches.

Board, Grease and Freshness

White folding board around 300 to 350 gsm is a good all-round choice. It prints bright colours accurately and gives a clean bakery look. Kraft board suits rustic, homemade and artisan styles and pairs well with simple one-colour print. Food-contact grade board is available on request if cookies sit directly against the board.

Butter-rich cookies will mark untreated board over a day or two. A grease-resistant board, a laminated interior or a simple glassine bag inside the box prevents this. If cookies will be kept in the box for several days, such as at an event or in a hotel room, an inner bag also helps keep them fresh.

Avoid sealing warm cookies in a box. Steam softens the bake and the board. Let them cool completely first.

Little Design Touches That Get Noticed

Because the box is small, design needs to be simple and bold. A logo on the lid, a pattern on the sides and a short line inside the lid is plenty. For wedding favours, initials and a date in foil look elegant. For corporate gifts, a company logo and a short thank-you message work well.

A round sticker that seals the lid doubles as a flavour label, which means one printed box design can serve every cookie on your menu. A thin ribbon tied around the box adds colour without extra printing. Kraft boxes look lovely with twine and a small tag.

Printing the inside of the lid with a message such as enjoy or made for you creates a moment when the box opens, and costs very little extra. p2 Favour boxes with a window are shown on our sweet favour boxes page.

Ordering Tips for Bakeries

Order slightly more boxes than you think you need. Small boxes go further than expected because staff start using them for brownies, blondies and macarons too. Flat boxes take up little space, so a larger order is easy to store in a dry cupboard.

If you supply cafés wholesale, a box with your bakery name on it keeps your brand in front of the end customer, even when the cookie is sold by someone else. Some bakeries print a short line on the base telling customers where else they can buy.

Keep boxes away from ovens and dishwashers. Heat and humidity curl board and weaken folds.

For online cookie sales, a small box rarely travels alone. Put two or three boxed cookies inside a padded mailer or a small shipping box with some crinkle paper, and they will arrive whole. The small box protects each bake, and the outer packaging takes the knocks of the courier network.

Measure the Thickest Cookie, Not the Widest

Small cookie boxes fail on height more than width. A stuffed bakery cookie at 30 mm tall will not close in a box cut for a 20 mm biscuit, while a wide, flat cookie slides about in a deep one. Measure the diameter of your largest cookie and the thickness at its fattest point, from a fresh bake because batches vary, and say if two stack or sit side by side. Gluten-free and vegan cookies crumble more, so ask for a snugger fit on those.

Plan one printed design with a round flavour sticker rather than a box per flavour, and say if the box is for favours, since foil initials change the artwork. The custom quote arrives by email within one working day, from £0.25 a box, with the minimum set per job.

The free proof shows the box flat with lid and sides marked. Production takes 4 to 7 working days after approval and the flat boxes reach UK mainland addresses by free tracked delivery. Bakeries that sell a dozen at a time add our standard cookie boxes for larger counts in the same print.

Small Cookie Boxes Questions

What buyers ask before ordering small cookie boxes.

Will a 100 mm box fit a stuffed bakery cookie?

Most thick bakery cookies around 90 to 100 mm across fit a box of about 105 x 105 x 40 mm. Measure your largest cookie to be sure.

How do I stop butter marking the box?

Use grease-resistant board, a laminated interior or a glassine bag inside the box. Any of these keeps oily marks off the print.

Can one box design work for every flavour?

Yes. Print one design and use a round seal sticker naming the flavour. It keeps print costs down and ordering simple.

Are window boxes good for iced biscuits?

Very good. A window in the lid shows off the decoration without opening the box, which helps sell decorated biscuits.

Can I put warm cookies in the box?

Wait until they are completely cool. Warm cookies release steam that softens both the bake and the board.

Can I use these boxes for macarons or brownies?

Yes. A small square box suits a brownie or two to three macarons. An insert can hold macarons upright if needed.

What finish suits wedding favours?

A white or kraft box with initials and a date in gold or silver foil looks elegant, especially with a ribbon tied around it. Keep the rest of the box plain so the foil reads.

Do the boxes need glue?

Tuck top boxes fold and lock without glue. They arrive flat and assemble in seconds.

Is kraft board suitable for food?

Kraft is widely used for bakery packaging. Food-contact grade board is available on request if cookies touch the board directly.

How far ahead should I order for an event?

Allow time for the free proof, 4 to 7 working days for production after approval and 2 to 3 working days for free tracked delivery. Three weeks ahead of a wedding is comfortable.
