A Small Seal That Makes an Award Feel Earned
A plain printed award sheet can look like it came off the office printer, because it often did. Press a round foil seal into the bottom corner and the same sheet suddenly looks presented rather than produced. The metal catches the light, the raised edge pattern frames your logo, and the person receiving it understands straight away that this marks something.
That is why HR teams, membership bodies, sports clubs and schools order foil anniversary seals in quantity. One roll covers a whole cycle of service awards, and the seals stay consistent from one recipient to the next, which matters when colleagues compare award sheets on the same wall.
Seals also work well away from paper. A gold seal across the join of a gift box lid or a wrapped bottle shows the package has not been opened and turns an ordinary present into a corporate one. Clubs that also name the recipient on the gift use the same foil on their foil-blocked hang tags for gifts.
Choosing Foil Colour, Shape and Edge Detail
Gold is the classic choice for long-service milestones and most people expect it. Silver suits cooler brand palettes and pairs well with navy or grey stationery. Copper and rose gold are warmer and feel a little more modern, while matt gold gives a softer, brushed look that photographs without glare.
Shape changes the mood too. A round seal with a serrated, starburst edge reads as official, the sort of mark you might find on a diploma. A plain circle is cleaner and more contemporary. Shields, rosettes and scalloped ovals are possible when the cutting line is set to your artwork, and a ribbon-tail outline can sit beneath the seal for an awards-night feel.
Inside the seal you can mix foil with printed ink. A common layout is foil for the outer ring and the milestone number, with your logo printed in a brand colour in the centre. Keep the smallest text at a sensible size; very fine lettering can fill in once foil is pressed. Each foil colour is shown on white and dark paper in our print and finish comparison.
- Gold, silver, copper, rose gold or matt gold foil

Wording That Works on a Seal
Space is tight, so the best seals use few words. A company name around the top arc, the milestone across the middle and a short phrase such as 'Long Service Award' or 'With Thanks' along the bottom arc is usually plenty. If you award several milestones, you can run one design with a blank centre and order separate versions for each anniversary number.
Curved text needs a little more room than it looks on screen, so we will flag anything that is likely to crowd the edge on your proof. Send us your logo as a vector file if you have one; foil needs crisp outlines to press cleanly. The free proof shown at actual size is the only reliable way to judge curved text on a 25 mm seal.
Sizing, Label Stock and Adhesive
The right diameter depends on what the seal sits on. On an A4 award sheet, a 50 mm seal is a confident size that does not crowd the signature line. On an A5 card or a folded invitation, 38 to 45 mm looks proportionate. For envelope flaps and small gift tags, 25 to 32 mm keeps the seal neat without covering the address.
If you plan to use the seal across the opening of a box, measure the seam and allow at least 10 mm of label on each side so it holds firmly. Larger 60 to 75 mm seals are useful on presentation folders and framed awards where the seal is a feature in its own right.
Most anniversary seals are printed on a smooth paper label stock that takes foil cleanly and sits flat on award paper. For gift boxes, bottles and items that may be handled a lot, a polypropylene label resists scuffing and moisture better. Textured stocks that feel like laid or linen paper are available if your award sheets already use a textured sheet and you want the seal to match.
Standard permanent adhesive suits award sheets and sealed packs. A removable adhesive is better when the seal is applied to something people may want to reposition, such as a display card or a framed print. Textured and polypropylene stocks are described alongside the rest of our printed labels, stickers and seals.
Applying Seals Neatly by Hand
Most seals are applied by one person at a desk the afternoon before a presentation, so a few habits make a real difference. Lay award sheets out flat on a clean surface and mark the position lightly in pencil on the first one, then use it as a guide for the rest. Peel the seal from the backing by its edge rather than its face, because fingerprints show on bright foil and can dull the shine.
Press from the centre outwards with a clean cloth or the side of a ruler, which pushes out air and stops the serrated edge lifting. If the award sheet is going into a frame, give the adhesive an hour to settle before the glass goes on. For boxes, apply the seal after the lid is fully closed and run a fingertip along both sides of the seam so the label grips the board rather than bridging a gap.
When you are sealing a large batch, a simple roll dispenser keeps things moving and saves your nails. Ask for rolls wound with the seal facing outwards if you are using one, and tell us the core size of any dispenser you already have so the rolls fit first time. The same application tips apply to printed address labels on textured envelopes, which many HR teams order with the seals.
Designing a Set for Several Milestones
Organisations that recognise 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 years of service often want each milestone to feel slightly more special than the last. One neat approach is to keep the same seal outline and logo throughout and change the foil: silver for the earlier milestones, gold for the bigger ones and rose gold or copper for a landmark anniversary.
Another option is a single foil colour with the number set large in the centre, so the set looks like a family. Either way, ordering all the versions together keeps the layouts consistent and means you have stock ready for the whole year of presentations. Candle gifts given at the same ceremony often carry a matching foil candle label in the same colour.
Match the Seal Diameter to the Award Sheet Before the Foil
A foil seal is ordered by diameter first, and the diameter follows from what it sits on. Lay a 50 mm coin-sized circle of paper on your award sheet, your card or your box lid and see whether it looks confident or crowded; on an A4 award sheet 50 mm is right, on an A5 card 38 mm, on an envelope flap 25 mm. Then count the milestones and decide whether each gets its own foil colour or one colour with the number set large. Choose sheets if one person applies them at a desk and rolls if a mailing house does it. Seals that will close a gift box use the corporate gift boxes with a seal panel as their template.
Send the logo as a vector and the wording as plain text. Email the shape, size, foil colour, milestones, rolls or sheets and quantity, and a custom quote comes back within one working day, followed by a free design proof with the curved text set. Seals are made in 4 to 7 working days once approved and delivered free and tracked on the UK mainland in 2 to 3 days. Seals with a foil fault reported within 10 days are reprinted or refunded.

Foil Anniversary Seals Questions
What buyers ask before ordering foil anniversary seals.
Can one seal design cover several anniversary milestones?
Yes. Many customers order a shared design with the milestone number changed for each version, such as 5, 10 and 25 years. Each version is proofed separately so you can check the numbers before printing.
Which foil colour suits a long-service award?
Gold is the most traditional and works on cream, white or ivory award paper. Silver suits cooler colour schemes, and matt gold gives a quieter finish if the award sheet already has a lot of detail.
How small can text be on a foil seal?
Foil needs a little more weight than ink to press cleanly, so we suggest avoiding hairline fonts and very small lettering. If anything on your artwork is likely to fill in, we will point it out on the proof.
Will the seals stick to textured award paper?
Permanent adhesive grips most laid and linen papers well. If your paper is heavily textured, let us know and we will suggest a stock with a stronger adhesive.
Can the seals be embossed as well as foiled?
Yes, the centre can be raised to give the seal a pressed, official feel. It works best with simple logos and short wording.
Should I choose rolls or sheets?
Sheets are easier when a few people apply seals by hand at their desks. Rolls are faster for sealing large quantities of envelopes or boxes and can be used with a label dispenser.
Can I use these seals to close gift boxes?
They work well across a lid seam or a wrapped package. Choose a polypropylene stock for items that will be handled a lot, and allow at least 10 mm of seal either side of the join.
Can you match the foil to award sheets you are printing for us?
Yes. If you order award sheets or gift boxes from us at the same time, we will use the same foil shade so the pieces sit together on the day.
What artwork file gives the cleanest edge on a foil anniversary seal?
A vector file such as PDF, AI or EPS, because foil is cut from a solid edge and any blur in a photo file shows as a ragged outline. If you only have a high-resolution image, send it anyway and the proof shows how it has been traced.
How quickly can I have seals for an awards evening?
Production is 4 to 7 working days after you approve the proof, then free tracked delivery to UK mainland addresses takes 2 to 3 working days. Tell us your event date when you ask for a custom quote so we can plan around it.
What if some seals arrive damaged?
Report any misprint or damage within 10 days of delivery and we will reprint or refund. Photos of the affected seals help us sort it quickly.
