A Gift Tradition That Needs the Right Box

In many families, a box of dry fruits is the gift you bring when visiting relatives, celebrating a wedding or engagement, welcoming a new baby or marking a religious or cultural celebration. It is generous, it keeps well and it is shared around the room. The box is a big part of that gesture. A plain plastic tub feels like groceries; a well-made compartment box with a gold-foiled lid feels like a gift.

Businesses have taken up the tradition too. Corporate gifting teams send dry fruit boxes to clients and staff because they suit almost every dietary need, travel well and feel more thoughtful than a generic hamper.

For a shop or online seller, the right box sets the price point. The same nuts and fruit can be sold as an everyday purchase or as a premium gift, and the packaging is what tells the customer which one they are looking at.

Experienced sellers often keep a core range of two or three box sizes all year, then add a limited-edition lid design when demand peaks without changing the insert. p3 Everyday retail packs of a single variety are covered on our dried fruit boxes page.

Compartment Layouts for Dry Fruit Gift Boxes

The compartments do two jobs: they keep each variety separate so flavours and textures do not mix, and they create the pattern that makes the box look abundant when opened. Popular layouts include: p0 The insert styles are shown on our inserts for sweet and fruit boxes page.

  • Four-compartment square: a simple grid for four varieties, a good entry-level gift.
  • Six or nine compartments: a fuller grid for a wider selection, often with a central compartment for premium dates.
  • Round tray with segments: compartments radiate from the centre like a wheel, a striking layout for weddings and celebrations.
  • Drawer box with tubs: the box slides open like a drawer to reveal clear or card tubs, each holding one variety.
  • Layered box: two trays stacked inside one lid, doubling the selection without a larger footprint.

Rigid or Folding Board?

Rigid boxes, made from thick greyboard wrapped in printed or coloured paper, are the premium choice. They feel solid, keep their shape when stacked and are often kept and reused long after the fruit is eaten. A rigid box with a lift-off lid or a magnetic flap suits high-value gifts and corporate orders.

Folding board boxes are lighter, more economical and arrive flat to save storage. With a good print and a window in the lid, they still make an attractive gift and suit shops selling dry fruit gift boxes at a range of price points.

Inside either style, the compartments can be formed by card dividers, a moulded insert or individual tubs. Clear tubs with lids keep each variety fresh and stop small nuts drifting into the next compartment if the box is tipped.

Freshness and Food Contact

Nuts and dried fruit are oily or sticky and should not sit directly on uncoated card for long. Most sellers use lined tubs, a food-contact grade insert or individual bags inside each compartment. Food-contact grade board is available on request if your design needs fruit to touch the card itself.

Freshness depends on the inner packaging rather than the gift box. If you need a longer shelf life, seal the contents in tubs or bags, then use the box for presentation. We can size compartments around the tubs or bags you already use.

Think about the journey as well. Boxes carried by hand to a relative's home have an easy life, but boxes posted to clients are tipped, stacked and shaken. For postal orders, choose tubs with snap lids, add a snug outer mailer and avoid loose fruit in open compartments, however beautiful it looks on the packing table. A box that arrives with pistachios scattered through the almonds undoes the effort of a careful selection. p2 Posted boxes travel best inside a snug printed mailer box.

Designing a Box That Feels Generous

Rich colours do well for dry fruit gifting: deep green, burgundy, navy and black, often with gold or copper foil. Geometric and floral patterns inspired by traditional textiles and tiles are popular, and they work beautifully with foil blocking and embossing on a rigid lid.

A window in the lid lets the colours of the fruit and nuts show through, which is especially effective on a round segmented tray. If you prefer a solid lid, print the variety names on a small card inside, or on the inside of the lid, so recipients know what they are tasting.

For corporate orders, add the company logo subtly on the lid or a belly band, and keep the box itself elegant rather than promotional. A personalised message card adds a warm touch without changing the box design.

Ribbon in a matching colour, tied around a rigid lid, finishes the look for weddings and engagement gifts where boxes are handed out in person. p3 Companies sending these in volume often use our corporate gift boxes with a belly band for the logo.

Sizing the Box Around the Assortment

Decide first how much each compartment should hold, because that sets the size of everything else. A small gift might have 50 to 80 g per compartment, while a large family box holds much more. Fill a compartment-sized container with each variety to see how much space it takes, remembering that large dates and dried figs need far more room than the same weight of pistachios.

Once you know the compartment size, multiply by the layout and add the walls. We will check the depth too: compartments should be deep enough to hold a generous mound without the lid pressing on it.

If you sell several sizes, keep the design consistent across them so customers can choose a smaller or larger box from the same family. p2 The guide to measuring a product covers fill volume for loose goods.

Weigh One Compartment of Dates Before You Fix the Layout

The compartment size sets the whole box, and it is the dates and figs that decide it, not the pistachios. Fill a small container with the heaviest variety at the weight you want per cell, note the space it takes and the height of the mound, and send that with the number of compartments and whether the box will be carried by hand or posted. Posted boxes need tubs with lids in each cell, so measure the tub rather than the fruit.

Decide rigid or folding from the price point, and tell us the celebration date so the timing can be planned backwards. The custom quote arrives by email within one working day, with the minimum set per job so a sweet shop's first run and a corporate order of hundreds are both normal.

The free proof shows the lid, the base and the compartment layout. Production takes 4 to 7 working days after approval and the boxes reach UK mainland addresses by free tracked delivery. Sellers who also do sweets at the same celebrations usually add our sweet boxes with printed dividers in the same colours.

Dry Fruit Gift Boxes Questions

What buyers ask before ordering dry fruit gift boxes.

Can nuts and dried fruit sit directly in the box?

We recommend lined tubs, bags or a food-contact grade insert, which is available on request. They keep each variety fresh and stop oils marking the board.

How many compartments does a dry fruit gift box usually have?

Four is the usual entry-level gift, six or nine gives a fuller assortment, and a round segmented tray suits weddings and engagements where the open box is the centrepiece. Keep the cell size the same across layouts and one insert design can grow by adding rows.

Do you make rigid dry fruit boxes?

Yes, rigid boxes with lift-off or magnetic lids are popular for premium gifts. Folding board boxes are a lighter, more economical alternative.

Can the lid of a dry fruit box have a window?

Yes. A window in the lid shows the colours of the nuts and fruit, which works especially well on a round segmented tray. Keep the window clear of the foil or emboss so both read cleanly.

Can I add a company logo for corporate gifts?

Yes. Many companies add their logo subtly on the lid or a belly band and include a printed message card inside.

Will the compartments fit my existing tubs?

Send us the tub size and we will design the insert around it, so your current tubs drop straight in. Tubs with snap lids are the safest choice for posted boxes.

How deep should each compartment be?

Deep enough to hold a generous mound without the lid touching it. We check this against your fill weight on the proof.

Can I order small, medium and large dry fruit boxes in one design?

Yes. A consistent lid design across several sizes is the usual approach, so a customer chooses by budget and the boxes still look like one family on the shelf. Each size gets its own proof.

How soon can I have boxes for a celebration?

After the free proof is approved, gift boxes are made in 4 to 7 working days and delivered free and tracked to UK mainland addresses within 2 to 3 working days. Mention your date when you enquire.

How much do dry fruit gift boxes cost?

Price depends on rigid or folding construction, size, compartments and finish. We send a custom quote by email within one working day.

A few of my gift boxes arrived with crushed corners. What happens?

Photograph the damage and tell us within 10 days of delivery, and the affected boxes are reprinted or refunded. The undamaged boxes stay with you, which matters when a celebration date is close.
