Choosing a Water-Resistant Board

There are two main approaches to water resistance. The first is a laminated finish, where a thin film is applied over the printed board, sealing the surface against splashes and giving a gloss, matt or soft-touch feel. The second is an aqueous or water-based barrier coating that repels water while keeping a more natural paper look. Both protect against rain and damp; neither makes the box waterproof if submerged.

For mailers, a lightweight E-flute corrugated board with a laminated outer gives strength and water resistance together. For gift boxes, a folding board or rigid greyboard with a laminated wrap feels more premium. Coated boards also resist sun cream and suntan oil marks better than raw card, which is useful for beach shops and resort boutiques where boxes are handled by customers fresh from the pool.

Sizing for Folded Swimwear

Swimwear folds small, so boxes can be slim, which keeps postage low. A bikini set folded on a piece of tissue usually fits a box only a few centimetres deep. A one-piece swimsuit needs slightly more length. If you pack a cover-up or sarong with the swimsuit, add depth rather than width so the box still fits the cheaper postal size.

Fold your largest size the way you will pack it, with tissue and any swing tags attached, then measure. Add a little room so items slide in without creasing. Many brands settle on two box sizes: a small for single pieces and a larger one for bundles and cover-ups.

Print and Unboxing for Summer Collections

Swimwear brands tend to have strong visual identities: tropical prints, sun-washed pastels, minimal monochrome, or bold block colours. The box can carry that identity outside and in. A plain coloured exterior with a small logo and a vivid printed interior is a popular approach, keeping the parcel discreet on the doorstep and saving the surprise for the opening.

Inside, a sheet of printed tissue, a sticker seal and a small card with care instructions finish the presentation. Swimwear care notes are genuinely useful to customers, since chlorine, salt and sun cream all affect fabrics, and a printed card saves them looking online. Foil logos on a matt laminate catch the light nicely in unboxing photos.

Hygiene Liners and Returns

Most swimwear sold online includes a hygiene liner in the briefs and a notice asking customers to try items on over underwear. That notice can be printed inside the box lid, where customers will see it before trying anything on, which tends to reduce problem returns.

If you accept returns, a box with a second adhesive strip or a tear-strip opening lets customers reseal the same box to send items back. That saves them finding packaging and keeps returned pieces in better condition.

A small hygiene sticker sealing the tissue, printed with your logo, reassures customers that the piece has not been opened since it was packed.

Order Before the First Warm Weekend

Swimwear orders arrive in a rush when the weather turns, so the practical tip is about timing: have boxes in stock before the main launch, not when the first warm weekend empties the shelves. Fold your largest swimsuit with tissue and swing tags on, remove the hanger, and measure that bundle; it sets the small mailer, and a cover-up bundle sets the larger one. Say if the box posts on its own, because that fixes E-flute with a laminated outer rather than folding board.

Decide where the hygiene notice and care notes go, usually inside the lid, and whether a returns strip is wanted.
