from £0.25 a boxPriced per job · low minimums

Custom shoe boxes are footwear boxes made to your exact size, board and print, from everyday trainer boxes to rigid presentation boxes for handmade shoes. Footwear brands, independent shoemakers and cobblers use them so that every pair leaves the workshop or warehouse in packaging that carries their name.

Why Footwear Brands Move Beyond Stock Boxes

Stock shoe boxes come in a handful of sizes and plain colours. They do the job, but they make every brand look the same, and they rarely fit a particular last or style well. A custom shoe box is sized to your shoes, printed in your colours and built from the board that suits your price point. The difference is obvious on a shelf and even more obvious when a customer opens a parcel.

Shoe boxes are also unusually long-lived packaging. People keep them for years to store shoes, photos, documents and odds and ends. A well made, attractively printed box sits in wardrobes and lofts long after the shoes have worn out, which is lasting visibility for your brand at no extra cost.

There is a practical side too. Boxes sized to your shoes reduce the tissue and fill needed to stop pairs sliding, stack more evenly in the stockroom and keep parcels smaller when you ship online. Over a season, those small savings in materials, space and postage add up.

For brands selling through other retailers, a consistent printed box also helps stockists. Your shoes are easy to spot on the stockroom shelf, and the box looks good enough to display on the shop floor alongside the pair.

Shoe Box Styles to Consider

The classic shoe box is a two-piece box with a base and a lift-off lid. It is familiar, easy to open and stacks well. A one-piece box with an attached hinged lid is quicker to assemble from flat and keeps the lid from going missing in a stockroom. Drawer-style boxes, where a tray slides out of a sleeve, feel special and suit premium trainers and limited editions.

Magnetic-closure rigid boxes are the choice for luxury and bespoke footwear, often with a ribbon pull and a printed interior. Corrugated mailer-style shoe boxes are designed to be posted without an outer carton, which is useful for online sellers who want to avoid double packaging.

Measuring for a Proper Fit

Measure the largest pair you plan to put in each box, laid as they will sit: usually heel to toe, side by side and facing opposite directions. Note the length of the longer shoe, the width across both and the height at the tallest point, which may be the heel collar, the heel itself or the boot shaft. Include tissue, shoe trees or dust bags if you use them.

Add around 10 to 15 mm to length and width and a little headroom so the lid closes without pressing the toe. Most brands need two or three sizes to cover a range: perhaps one for smaller sizes, one for larger and a tall box for boots. Boxes that fit closely look better, protect the shoes and save space in stockrooms and parcels.

If you make shoes by hand and sizes vary, send us your largest and smallest pairs. We can suggest a size range that keeps the number of box sizes manageable.

Check the box against your heaviest style as well as your largest. Chunky soles and lug-soled boots can be surprisingly heavy, and a box that bows in the middle when lifted will need a thicker board or corrugated construction.

Boards From Everyday to Luxury

Folding boxboard is the standard for retail shoe boxes. It prints well, folds crisply and is light. For heavier footwear, or boxes that must survive stacking in a warehouse, E flute corrugated board adds strength. Kraft board gives a natural, workwear or outdoor feel and pairs well with a single bold ink colour.

Rigid boxes made from greyboard wrapped in printed or textured paper are the top tier. They feel substantial, have sharp corners and are almost always kept. They suit bespoke shoemakers, luxury brands and gift pairs. Black and dark coloured papers with foil logos are particularly popular for formal and evening footwear.

Print, Labels and the Inside of the Box

The lid carries your logo and is the face of the box. The end panels matter just as much in a stockroom, because shoe boxes are usually shelved end-out. A printed end panel with your logo and a clear space for a size and colour label lets staff and customers find the right pair quickly.

Inside the lid you can print care advice, a short story about how the shoes are made, or a simple thank-you. A patterned interior is a nice surprise when the box is opened. Tissue paper printed with your logo and a sticker seal complete the presentation.

Finishes such as matt or soft-touch lamination, foil stamping and embossing help a premium range feel the part. For everyday ranges, an uncoated kraft box with a confident one-colour logo can look just as deliberate.

For Cobblers and Small Workshops

Small shoemakers and repairers often assume custom boxes are only for large brands. In fact, low minimums make it practical to order a modest run of one or two sizes. A cobbler returning resoled shoes in a branded box, rather than a carrier bag, sends a strong message about the quality of the work.

If you only need a small number, choose a design that works across many jobs: logo on the lid, contact details on one end and a blank panel for the customer's name or repair note.

Bespoke makers often add a personal detail: the customer's initials foiled on a small card inside the lid, or a handwritten note about the leather and last used. These touches cost little and turn a box into part of the commission, something the customer keeps as proof of a pair made just for them.

Repairers can also use the box to explain aftercare, such as how long to let new soles settle or how often to polish, which brings customers back for their next repair.

Shoe Boxes Questions

What buyers ask before ordering shoe boxes.

How many shoe box sizes does a brand need?

Usually two or three cover a typical range, plus a tall box for boots. Measure the largest pair for each group. We help match sizes to your range.

Which board is best for posting shoes?

E flute corrugated board or a corrugated shoe mailer survives the post on its own. Folding boxboard usually needs an outer carton. We recommend a board on your quote.

Can the end panel show the size and colour?

Yes, we can print a panel on the end for a size and colour label. Staff then find pairs quickly on shelves. The panel appears on your free proof.

Are rigid shoe boxes worth it?

For luxury and bespoke footwear, yes. They feel substantial and customers keep them. For everyday ranges, folding board is more economical.

Can a cobbler order a small number of boxes?

Yes, custom shoe boxes minimums are kept low and quoted job by job. A design with a blank panel for customer names suits repair work. One or two sizes are usually enough.

Can I print inside the lid?

Yes, inside print can carry care advice, your story or a pattern. It adds a pleasant surprise when the box is opened. It is shown on the proof.

Can the box hold boots laid flat?

Yes, a tall boot box is sized for knee-high boots laid on their side. Ankle boots fit a deeper standard box. Measure the shaft height.

Do you supply printed tissue paper?

Yes, branded tissue and sticker seals complete the presentation. They can be added to the same custom quote. Colours are matched to your box where possible.

What is a drawer-style shoe box?

It is a tray that slides out of a printed sleeve. It feels premium and suits limited editions and gift pairs. A ribbon pull makes it easy to open.

How long does production take for custom shoe boxes?

Production takes 4–7 working days after you approve the free proof. The finished custom shoe boxes reach UK mainland addresses free and tracked in 2–3 working days. Pricing for custom shoe boxes comes back as a custom quote within one working day.
