Custom Printed Shirt Sleeves

from £0.25 a sleevePriced per job · low minimums

Custom shirt sleeves are printed card bands that wrap around a folded shirt, holding it neatly and carrying your brand, size and product details. They give shirts and T-shirts a polished, retail-ready look for a fraction of the cost and bulk of a full box.

Retail-Ready Without a Box

A boxed shirt looks smart, but boxes take up space on shelves, in stockrooms and in the post, and they cost more to buy. For many clothing brands the box is more packaging than the product needs. A shirt sleeve, sometimes called a belly band, does the important parts of the job: it holds the fold in place, displays the brand and tells the customer what they are buying, while letting the fabric itself be seen and touched.

That visibility is a real advantage in clothing retail. Customers want to see the colour, the texture and the collar before they buy. A sleeve shows all of these while still looking deliberate and branded, rather than a loose shirt on a table.

Sleeves are also light and flat, so they add almost nothing to shipping costs and store compactly before use. Brands that still want a full box for gift orders keep shirt boxes with a lift-off lid for those alone.

Who Uses Shirt Sleeves

Shirt sleeves have moved well beyond the formal shirts they began with:

  • Menswear and tailoring brands wrapping folded dress shirts for shop shelves and gift sets.
  • T-shirt labels and print-on-demand brands giving tees a retail finish for markets and pop-ups.
  • Band and event merchandise sellers who need quick, cheap presentation for stacks of shirts.
  • Corporate uniform suppliers labelling sizes clearly for staff distribution.
  • Sports clubs packaging replica kits and training tops for club shops.
  • Gift shops selling folded scarves, pyjamas and loungewear alongside shirts.

Sizing a Sleeve to Your Fold

A shirt sleeve is sized to the folded garment, not the shirt itself, so the first step is to settle on a standard fold. Most brands fold shirts around a card or tissue backing to a consistent rectangle, often around 230 x 300 mm for dress shirts and slightly larger for T-shirts and casual shirts. Measure a few folded garments, note the width, length and thickness, and use the largest.

The sleeve's internal circumference should be the width plus thickness, doubled, with a small allowance so it slides on without crushing the fold. Too tight and it creases the shirt; too loose and it slides off when picked up. The band width, usually between 80 and 150 mm, is a design choice: narrower bands show more fabric, wider ones carry more information.

If you sell several sizes of shirt, a single sleeve usually fits them all as long as the folding method keeps the folded size consistent.

A folding board makes a big difference to consistency. A thin card the size of your finished fold, placed inside the shirt before folding, gives every garment the same crisp rectangle and supports the collar. Staff can fold far more quickly with one, and the sleeves then fit every shirt the same way. We can print and cut folding boards to match your sleeve if you would like the inside of the pack to carry your brand too. Our guide to measuring folded garments explains the circumference allowance in more detail.

Board and Construction

Shirt sleeves are made from folding boxboard, cut and glued into a closed band or supplied flat with a locking tab. Glued bands are the fastest to apply on a packing table, as they simply slide on. Flat sleeves with a tab are wrapped and locked around the shirt, which is useful for garments of varying thickness.

White board gives bright, clean colours, while kraft board suits workwear, heritage and natural fibre brands. Heavier board feels more premium and stays flat, while lighter board is economical for high-volume merchandise.

A die-cut window in the sleeve can show a printed label or detail on the shirt underneath, and a shaped edge, such as a curved or angled cut, adds personality without much extra cost.

For merchandise sellers who pack shirts at a venue or event, flat-packed sleeves with a tab are often the more practical choice. They stack in a box, wrap around shirts of varying thickness, and do not need to be slid over the garment, which is handy when shirts are folded quickly on a crowded table. Socks sold at the same stall use the smaller sock sleeves with a hang tab in the same board.

What to Print on a Shirt Sleeve

The front of the sleeve is your shop window. A logo, the shirt style and size are the essentials, and many brands add a short line about the fabric or fit. Keep it simple and readable from a short distance, because customers will scan a whole table of shirts at once.

The back is the place for care instructions, fabric composition, barcodes and your website. A size marker in a clear colour coded box on the edge of the sleeve helps customers find their size in a stack without unfolding anything, which keeps tables tidy.

Printing the inside of the sleeve is a nice touch for gift sets, perhaps with a thank you message or styling tip revealed when the band is removed.

Keep the size marker in the same position on every sleeve across your range, so regular customers learn where to look. Upload the logo through the free proof request and we will show the size marker in position.

Finishes and Details

Matt lamination gives a refined, modern feel that suits tailoring and premium casualwear. Gloss gives graphic T-shirt designs and bright colours more punch. Hot foil on the logo, in gold, silver or a colour, is a simple way to make a sleeve look more expensive, and embossing adds texture.

If shirts will be hung rather than laid flat, a sleeve with a hang tab and euro slot lets them hang on retail hooks while staying folded.

Colour can work harder than you might think. A sleeve in a single brand colour with a reversed-out logo looks bold on a stack of white shirts, while a white sleeve with a fine coloured line suits a range of patterned or coloured shirts without clashing.

Pair sleeves with tissue paper wrapping or a printed sticker for gift orders and you have a complete presentation without a box. Knitwear that needs a deeper band is covered on our apparel sleeve boxes page.

Settle the Fold, Then Send Us Three Measurements

A shirt sleeve fits the fold rather than the shirt, so fix a standard fold first, ideally around a card folding board, and then measure the folded bundle for width, length and thickness. Those three figures set the band's circumference; the band width is your choice, with 90 to 120 mm the usual range. If merchandise is packed at venues, choose the flat sleeve with a locking tab rather than a glued band, because it wraps shirts of different thickness without being slid on.

Send the measurements, the band width, the artwork and a note on whether sizes are printed or stickered, and a custom quote comes back by email within one working day, with sleeves from £0.25 and low minimums set per job. The free proof shows the band flat and wrapped around the fold. Production takes 4–7 working days after approval and the flat-packed sleeves arrive by free tracked delivery to UK mainland addresses in 2–3 working days. Misprinted or damaged sleeves reported within 10 days are reprinted or refunded. Brands that post shirts singly usually add shirt mailer boxes sized to the fold so the sleeved shirt travels flat.

Shirt Sleeves Questions

What buyers ask before ordering shirt sleeves.

What is a shirt sleeve in packaging?

It is a printed card band that wraps around a folded shirt, holding the fold and showing your brand and product details. It replaces a full box for many retail uses.

How do I measure for a shirt sleeve?

Measure the folded shirt's width, length and thickness. The band is sized to wrap the folded garment with a small allowance so it slides on easily.

Will one sleeve fit all my shirt sizes?

Usually, if your folding method gives a consistent folded size. Use a colour coded size marker on the band to tell sizes apart.

Should I choose a glued band or a flat sleeve with a tab?

Glued bands are fastest to apply. Flat sleeves with a tab adjust to garments of different thickness.

Can customers see the shirt fabric?

Yes, that is one of the main advantages. The band covers only a strip, so colour and texture stay visible.

Can shirt sleeves hang on retail hooks?

Add a hang tab with a euro slot and the folded shirt can hang while staying neatly wrapped. The tab is reinforced with a second layer of board so it takes the weight of a heavy cotton shirt.

Do sleeves work for T-shirts as well as dress shirts?

Yes. T-shirt brands and merchandise sellers use them to give tees a retail finish at markets and pop-ups.

Where should care instructions go?

On the back of the band, along with fabric details and barcodes, leaving the front for branding. Keep the type above 7 point so the wash symbols stay readable.

Can I add foil to my shirt sleeves?

Yes. A foil logo on a matt laminated band is one of the most popular premium finishes. Gold on navy and silver on black are the two combinations tailoring brands ask for most.

We have a pop-up shop launch soon. How much notice do you need?

Leave time to approve the proof, then allow 4–7 working days to produce the bands and 2–3 working days for free tracked mainland delivery. Three weeks before the launch is comfortable.
