Custom Marshmallow Boxes
Custom marshmallow boxes give handmade marshmallows a home that keeps them soft, separate and good-looking, whether you sell a cube of four or a long box of twelve. Confectioners, gift shops and dessert bars use them to turn a sweet treat into something worth giving.

Packaging a Soft, Sticky Treat
Gourmet marshmallows are not like boiled sweets. They are soft, they compress easily, they can stick to each other and to paper, and they are often dusted in icing sugar and cornflour that can make a mess of an unlined box. Good packaging has to deal with all of that while still looking appealing enough to sell at a premium.
That means a box sized so marshmallows sit snugly without being squashed, an inner liner or bag that stops the dusting from marking the board, and a closure that keeps air out reasonably well so the texture stays soft for longer. Getting those basics right is what separates a box that looks lovely on the counter from one that arrives home with flattened, sticky contents.
It also means thinking about how people eat them. Marshmallows are often shared, toasted or dropped into hot chocolate, so a box that opens easily and can be closed again is more useful than one that has to be torn apart.
Box Styles for Custom Marshmallow Boxes
Cube boxes are the signature format for marshmallows, partly because many artisan makers cut their marshmallows into neat cubes. A small cube box holding four or nine pieces makes a perfect gift or favour, and it stacks beautifully on a shop counter.
Long tuck boxes and slim trays hold a row of marshmallows end to end, which suits flavour collections and tasting sets. A sleeve slid over a tray gives a two-part opening that feels more premium, and the sleeve can carry the full branding while the tray stays plain. Window boxes let customers see the colours and swirls, which is a big selling point for flavoured and layered marshmallows.

Liners, Bags and Keeping Them Fresh
Most marshmallow makers pack the product in a clear bag or a lined tray before it goes into the printed box. A sealed inner bag holds the texture, contains the dusting powder and stops the marshmallows sticking to the board. If you prefer the marshmallows to sit directly in the box, a glassine or greaseproof liner is the next best option.
For window boxes, the inner bag sits behind the window film, so choose a clear bag to keep the view sharp. Food-contact grade board and liners are available on request. Remember that the shelf life of the product depends on your recipe and inner packaging, so test before committing to a large run.
Dividers can separate flavours inside a larger box, which helps when one variety is coated in toasted coconut and another in cocoa powder. Makers who also cut fudge find the fudge boxes with greaseproof liners work for both.
Print That Matches the Product
Marshmallows are soft, sweet and often pastel or brightly coloured, and the packaging usually follows. Soft-touch matte finishes echo the texture, while pastel colour palettes, playful illustration and rounded type all feel at home. Some makers go the other way with dark, elegant boxes and gold foil for a grown-up gift range that sits beside chocolates.
Use the box to tell people what is inside. Flavour names, a short description and an ingredients panel are essential, and a small note suggesting a serving idea, such as toasting or adding to hot chocolate, adds charm and helps sell the experience.
Kraft board with a single-colour logo suits a rustic, handmade brand and is economical for markets and fairs. Full colour printing on white board gives more freedom for illustration and colour.
Sizing by Piece Count
Start with the size of one marshmallow and the number per box. Artisan cubes vary a lot, from bite-sized pieces to large slabs, so measure a few from the same batch and use the largest. Add a little space for the inner bag and a few millimetres so the box closes without pressing down on the top layer.
Common layouts are four in a single layer, nine in a three by three grid, twelve in a long tray, or two stacked layers in a cube. Two layers save space but the bottom layer can compress, so we usually suggest a card divider between them.
If you sell gift boxes alongside hot chocolate, consider a larger box with a section for a jar or sachet. It makes a complete gift set and a natural upsell.
Larger slab marshmallows, the kind cut for toasting over a fire, need a deeper single layer and are best boxed in sixes rather than nines.
Who Buys Marshmallow Boxes
Artisan confectioners and dessert makers are the main buyers, followed by sweet shops, delis and farm shops stocking local treats. Wedding and event planners order small cube boxes as favours, and corporate gift companies add marshmallow boxes to hampers. Cafés selling hot chocolate often keep a boxed version by the till as an add-on purchase.
Each group has slightly different needs. A favour order is all about small size and a ribbon, a deli wants a box that stands upright on a shelf with clear flavour labelling, and a hamper company needs something sturdy enough to sit under jars and bottles without crushing. Telling us where the boxes will be sold helps us recommend the right board weight and style from the start.
Makers who sell online should also think about the journey. Marshmallows are light but easily squashed, so a rigid cube inside a snug mailer travels far better than a slim tuck box rattling around in a larger parcel. Packing two or three gift boxes together with a little padding usually keeps them in perfect shape.

Marshmallow Boxes Questions
What buyers ask before ordering marshmallow boxes.
Will marshmallows stick to the inside of the box?
They can if they sit directly on the board. A clear inner bag or a glassine liner prevents sticking and contains the dusting powder.
How many marshmallows fit in a cube box?
It depends on the size of your marshmallows. A small cube often holds four, while a wider box holds nine in a grid. Send your piece size and we will suggest dimensions.
Can I show the colours through a window?
Yes, a window with clear film shows off flavoured and swirled marshmallows. Use a clear inner bag to keep the view sharp.
Can different flavours be kept apart?
We can add card dividers so coated flavours do not transfer powder to each other. It also keeps the box looking tidy.
Is the board suitable for food?
Food-contact grade board and liners are available on request. Most makers also use an inner bag, which adds another layer between product and box.
Can the box include a hot chocolate jar?
Yes, a larger box with a separate section can hold a jar or sachets alongside the marshmallows. It makes a complete gift set.
Which style works for wedding favours?
Small cube or pillow boxes are the most popular. Names or dates are usually added with a sticker or ribbon tag to keep costs down.
Can I order a short run for a market?
Minimums are low and quoted per job, so a small batch for a market or fair is fine. Ask for a custom quote with your quantity.
Will two layers of marshmallows get squashed?
A card divider between layers spreads the weight and protects the bottom layer. We recommend it for any two-layer box.
Can you print serving ideas on the box?
Yes, a short serving note on the side or inside the lid adds charm. Toasting tips or hot chocolate pairings are popular choices.
What if boxes are delivered damaged?
Let us know within 10 days with photos and we will reprint the damaged boxes or refund you.
