Custom Cylinder Boxes

from £0.25 a boxPriced per job · low minimums

Custom cylinder boxes are rigid card tubes with a lift-off lid, wrapped in your printed artwork and sized around round products such as candles, bottles, tea, cosmetics and rolled garments. The round shape catches the eye on shelves full of square cartons and feels satisfying to open.

Why Round Packaging Gets Noticed

Most products on a shelf come in rectangular boxes. A cylinder breaks that pattern immediately, and shoppers notice it. The curved surface catches light differently, the shape invites people to pick it up and turn it in their hands, and the lid comes off with a gentle pull that feels more special than opening a tuck flap.

Cylinders also suit round products naturally. A candle jar, a perfume bottle, a tin of tea or a roll of socks fits a tube with little wasted space. The product sits snugly, and there are no empty corners to fill.

People often keep cylinder boxes after the product is used. They become pen pots, storage for hair ties or jewellery, or tea caddies, which keeps your branding visible at home.

Round packaging also photographs well. Brands selling through social media find that a cylinder, standing upright with its lid tilted against it, gives a strong product shot that looks different from the flat lays everyone else posts. Plain brown versions of the same tube are covered under round kraft boxes with lift-off lids.

Construction of Custom Cylinder Boxes

A cylinder box is made from a rolled card tube with a base disc and a lid. The tube is wrapped in printed paper, which gives clean edges and full colour coverage. The lid can sit over the top of the tube, or the box can have an inner neck so the lid sits flush with the body for a clean look.

The fit of the lid is important. Too loose and it falls off; too tight and it is hard to open. We set the fit so the lid slides off smoothly with a soft resistance that feels premium.

Tube strength depends on the wall thickness. Thin-walled tubes suit light products such as tea, socks or lip balms. Thicker walls suit glass bottles and candles, and they hold their shape better when stacked in a carton or on a shelf.

Some brands add a printed paper seal across the join between lid and body. It keeps the lid on during transit and shows the customer the product has not been opened. A shallower round box with the same construction is shown on the round cardboard boxes with lids page.

Sizes and Inserts

Measure the product's diameter and height, including any caps or pumps. We size the inside of the tube with a small allowance so the product slides in and out easily. For products narrower than the tube, an insert holds them centred.

Card or foam inserts can hold a single bottle upright, keep two jars apart or hold a set of small items such as lip balms or bath bombs. A shredded paper fill gives a softer gift look.

Long tubes suit posters, scarves, socks and rolled prints. Short, wide tubes suit candles, cosmetics jars and confectionery.

For food products such as tea or sweets, an inner pouch or liner is the usual approach. Food-contact grade board is available on request if the product will touch the tube directly.

Think about how the product comes out of the tube. A deep tube with a narrow product can make it hard to lift out by hand. A ribbon pull under the product, or a shorter base with a taller lid, solves this neatly.

Papers, Print and Finishes

The outer wrap can be printed in full colour, in spot colours or on coloured and textured papers. Kraft wraps suit natural brands, while white papers show bright artwork. Black papers with foil look luxurious.

Finishes add character. Soft-touch lamination feels velvety. Gloss makes colours pop. Foil on a logo or pattern glints as the tube turns. Embossing lifts details off the surface.

Remember that the design wraps all the way around. Place the logo so it is seen from the front, and plan how the pattern meets at the join. We show the wrap flat on the proof so you can check alignment.

Inside printing is especially effective on tubes. When the lid lifts, the inside of the tube and lid are the first things the customer sees, so a contrasting colour or pattern there adds real impact for little extra cost.

Labels can be applied to a plain printed tube for each variant, such as different scents or tea blends, which keeps one wrap design working across a whole range.

Seams are worth planning with care. On a printed wrap, the join runs down one side of the tube, so place it at the back, away from the logo, and choose a pattern that hides the meeting point. Solid colours and simple repeats disguise the join best.

Lids can carry their own print too. A logo or pattern on the top of the lid is visible when tubes are displayed below eye level, and it is often the first thing a customer sees when picking a tube from a basket. Wrap papers, foil and soft-touch lamination are compared in the print and finish options guide.

Who Orders Cylinder Packaging

Candle makers, cosmetics and skincare brands, tea and coffee sellers, perfume brands, sock and apparel companies, confectioners, gift companies and artists selling prints all use cylinder boxes. Corporate gifting teams use them for branded gifts such as drink bottles or premium tea sets.

Wedding planners and event companies use small tubes for favours, and hotels use them for amenities. Craft distillers often use tall tubes as gift packaging for a bottle of gin or whisky, giving the bottle a premium presentation without the cost of a rigid box.

Subscription brands use them too, since a tube is instantly recognisable in a letterbox delivery and gives each month's product a recognisable look. Brands that want a faceted look instead of a round one move to the hexagon boxes with the same wrap.

Check the Diameter, Then the Lid Depth

A tube is sized by two numbers, and the second is the one people forget. The inside diameter needs the product's widest point plus 3 to 5 mm; a candle jar with a lip or a bottle with a shoulder is measured at the lip, not the body. The lid depth then sets how the tube opens: a shallow 30 mm lid lifts off easily for a tea tin, while a deep lid gives a two-tone look and holds a poster tube shut in the post. Send both numbers with the product and the quantity.

A custom quote is emailed within one working day with low minimums set per job, and the free proof shows the flat wrap, the lid and the base together. Production runs 4 to 7 working days after you sign off, then the tubes travel assembled on free tracked UK mainland delivery for 2 to 3 working days; a tube that arrives dented or misprinted is replaced or refunded if reported within 10 days. For an unusual shape, post a sample and the insert is cut to it. Squarer products in the same range sit well in the printed cube boxes for small products.

Cylinder Boxes Questions

What buyers ask before ordering cylinder boxes.

Can the lid sit flush with the tube?

Yes, a three-piece tube with an inner neck lets the lid sit flush for a clean look.

How tight will the lid be?

We set the fit so the lid slides off smoothly with gentle resistance, not too loose and not too tight.

Can a narrow product sit centred in a wider tube?

Yes, a card or foam insert holds the product centred and upright.

Can a cylinder box show the product through a window in the side?

Yes. A window is cut in the body before the wrap goes on, with clear film behind it, and works best on tubes over 70 mm in diameter where the curve is gentle enough for the film to sit flat. The proof shows the window position on the flat wrap.

How does the design wrap around the tube?

We show the wrap flat on the proof so you can check the logo position and the join.

Can I use kraft paper for a natural look?

Yes, kraft wraps suit natural and botanical brands and take one or two colour print well.

Are cylinder boxes good for tea?

Yes, tubes suit loose leaf tea, especially with an inner pouch to keep it fresh.

Can I order long tubes for posters?

Yes, long tubes suit posters, prints, scarves and rolled garments.

Which wrap finish suits a cylinder box for a luxury candle?

Soft-touch lamination over a dark wrap with a foil logo is the most common choice for candles, because it feels velvety in the hand and hides fingerprints. Embossing the logo on the lid top adds a second detail that shows when tubes are displayed below eye level.

Can a subscription brand order one month's tubes before committing to a year?

Yes. Minimums are quoted per job and kept low, so a single month's run is a normal order. The wrap artwork is kept on file, so a new month's colour or design can be swapped in on the next run.
