Custom Small Mailing Boxes

from £0.25 a boxPriced per job · low minimums

Small mailing boxes are compact folding mailers in thin corrugated board, made for the little parcels that online sellers post every day: rings, earrings, lip balms, keyrings, pins and phone accessories. Sized right, they protect the item, look branded on arrival and can often travel at a lower postage rate.

Small Orders Deserve Proper Boxes

Plenty of small sellers start with padded envelopes. They are cheap and easy, but a pair of earrings in a bag inside an envelope arrives looking like an afterthought, and anything with a hard edge can be bent or crushed in a sorting machine. A small mailing box gives the item a rigid shell, keeps it flat and turns a tiny parcel into something that feels like a proper purchase.

These boxes fold from a single flat blank. The sides and front lock with tabs, and the lid tucks into the front, so there is no tape needed to make up the box and only a seal sticker or a strip of tape to close it. Packing becomes a quick, repeatable routine that suits a kitchen table or a small studio.

They also stack. A pile of identical small mailers on a shelf, ready to fill, makes a busy dispatch day far calmer than a drawer full of different envelopes and loose bubble wrap.

Letterbox Friendly Sizes

For many sellers, the main reason to choose a small mailer is postage. Parcels that fit through a standard letterbox, kept within the size and thickness limits for large letters or small parcels, usually cost less to send and do not need a signature or a trip to the depot. Customers also like parcels that drop through the door while they are out.

That means depth is the measurement to watch. Many letterbox mailers are kept to around 25 mm deep or slightly under once closed, which suits jewellery, cards and flat accessories. Check your carrier's current size guide, tell us the limit you are working to, and we will build the box so the closed outer dimensions sit inside it, including the thickness of the board. Our method for measuring for a letterbox explains which dimension the limit applies to.

Who Uses Small Mailers

Most of our small mailer customers sell through their own websites or marketplaces, and they post a steady flow of low-value, high-care items. A ring needs to arrive on its card without having slid into a corner. A lip balm should not be dented. A set of enamel pins has to stay on its backing. Sellers who do not need print start with our plain mailer boxes for unprinted orders.

  • Jewellery makers posting rings, earrings and necklaces
  • Marketplace shops selling stickers, pins and patches
  • Beauty brands sending samples and minis
  • Phone accessory sellers posting cases and cables
  • Candle and wax melt brands sending tester packs
  • Craft suppliers posting beads, threads and small kits

Board and Construction

Small mailers are usually made from E-flute or the even thinner F-flute corrugated. The fine flutes keep the walls slim, which helps with letterbox sizes, while still giving more crush resistance than a folding carton. The outer liner can be brown kraft for a natural look or white for brighter print, and the inner liner can be printed too.

Folding styles vary slightly. A roll end tuck front mailer has double-thickness side walls that roll over and lock, which feels sturdy even at small sizes. A simpler tuck top style uses less board and is quicker to fold, suiting very light items. We will suggest the better style for your item's weight and the way you pack.

Board choice also affects how the box feels when the customer picks it up. A mailer that flexes when squeezed gently feels cheap, even if it protected the item perfectly well. For premium jewellery or skincare, stepping up from F-flute to E-flute, or adding a lamination to the outside, gives a firmer, smoother feel that matches the price of what is inside. The flute sizes are explained in our corrugated flutes explained guide.

Making the Unboxing Count

Small parcels are opened quickly, often standing at the door, so the first look inside needs to land in a second or two. Printing the inside lid with a pattern, a thank you line or a social handle is one of the most effective small upgrades. A small card insert with a slot for a ring, or a die cut cradle for an earring card, keeps the item in the centre and presents it properly.

Outside, many sellers keep it simple: a logo on the lid and the website on one side. Plain kraft with a one-colour logo is a classic look and costs less than full coverage print. Full colour print suits brands with bold patterns or illustrations and makes every parcel recognisable on the doormat.

A branded seal sticker on the front tuck adds a final touch for very little cost, and it doubles as a simple tamper check.

Sizing Your Small Mailer

Lay out the item exactly as it will be packed, including any jewellery card, pouch, tissue or thank you note, and measure length, width and height. Add a few millimetres all round so the item fits without forcing. If the box feels too roomy, a small insert or a folded tissue layer is better than going up a size, because a smaller box saves postage and board.

Many shops use two sizes: one very slim box for single items and one slightly deeper box for bundles. Sharing one print design across both keeps branding consistent and simplifies the order.

Weight is the other half of the postage sum. A heavier board, a thick insert and a glossy card all add grams, and some postage bands are tight. Weigh a fully packed sample on your kitchen scales before you commit, especially if you are close to a band limit. We can suggest a lighter board or a thinner insert if the numbers are close, without losing the protection the item needs. Orders that outgrow a small mailer move to our foldable mailer boxes for bigger items.

Check the Letterbox Limit Before You Choose a Depth

Small mailers live or die by postage, so before you fix a size, measure your packed item in its tissue or jewellery box and check the depth against the letterbox limit you want to post under; a few millimetres decides whether a parcel is a large letter or a small parcel. Tell us the item sizes, the postage limit, and whether one design should cover a single-item box and a bundle box. Choose kraft or white board by your branding and decide whether a tear strip and an inside print are wanted, because both are cheaper to include from the start. Artwork is a logo and any inside message, sent as vector files, and the free proof shows the dieline flat and folded. A custom quote comes by email within one working day, minimums are quoted per job so a studio can order a few hundred, and mailers are made in 4–7 working days after approval, shipping flat with free tracked delivery to UK mainland addresses. Glass and ceramics need the thicker build on our fragile mailer boxes for glass page.

Small Mailing Boxes Questions

What buyers ask before ordering small mailing boxes.

Will a small mailing box fit through a letterbox?

It can, if the closed outer size and depth sit within your carrier's limit. Tell us the limit you are working to and we design the box to fit, allowing for board thickness. Many letterbox mailers stay around 25 mm deep or slightly under.

How do I stop a ring sliding around in the box?

A small card insert with a slot or a cut-out holds the ring or ring box in place. A pouch with folded tissue also works. We can design an insert to suit your jewellery card.

Do small mailers need tape?

The box locks together without tape. Most sellers add a seal sticker or a strip of tape on the front tuck for security in the post.

Is kraft or white better for small mailers?

Kraft gives a natural, handmade feel and suits one-colour logos. White gives brighter full colour print. Both protect the item equally.

Can the inside of a small mailer be printed?

Yes. Inside printing is popular because it is the first thing customers see. A pattern, message or social handle works well.

What board is used for very slim mailers?

F-flute or E-flute corrugated keeps the walls thin while staying rigid. It helps keep slim mailers within letterbox depth limits.

Can a ring box and a bundle box share one design?

Yes, two sizes with one design is a common set-up for single items and bundles. The artwork is scaled to each dieline rather than stretched. Each size appears on your proof.

Are these boxes strong enough for glass?

Small mailers suit light items. For glass bottles or ceramics, we recommend a fragile mailer with stronger board and an insert.

Can a small mailer have a tear strip?

Yes, a tear strip makes opening quick and tidy, and it shows whether the parcel has been opened in transit. It is cut into the lid during production. Add a second adhesive strip if customers return items.

How soon can small mailers reach my studio?

Production takes 4–7 working days after you approve the proof. Free tracked delivery to UK mainland addresses then takes 2–3 working days.

What if the print on some mailers is misaligned?

Photograph the misaligned boxes and send the photos within 10 days of delivery, and we reprint or refund them. Print registration is checked on the press sample before the run. Check a few boxes from each bundle on arrival.
