Custom Bubble Mailers for Small Fragile Orders
Custom bubble mailers are padded envelopes with a layer of bubble film inside and your branding printed on the outside. They protect jewellery, cosmetics, phone accessories and other small fragile items in the post while weighing far less than a box.

The Case for a Padded Envelope Over a Box
For small items, a box is often overkill. It costs more to post because of its size, it needs void fill to stop the product rattling, and it takes longer to pack. A bubble mailer wraps around the item, takes up almost no extra space and fits through many letterboxes, so the customer does not have to be home to receive it. That alone can cut missed deliveries and calls to your inbox asking where an order is.
The bubble lining absorbs knocks and pressure from other parcels in a sorting bag. It will not stop a heavy object crushing a delicate glass bottle, but for a pair of earrings in a small gift box, a lipstick, a phone case or a set of guitar strings, it is usually all the protection needed.
Outer Materials and How They Look
Bubble mailers come with two main outer layers. A poly outer is waterproof, tear-resistant and takes bright, glossy colour, which suits fashion and beauty brands with bold palettes. A paper outer, in white or brown kraft, has a softer look and feels closer to a traditional envelope. Paper outers print well in one or two colours and give a handmade feel to jewellery and stationery shops.
Inside, the bubble film is the same in both cases. Larger bubbles cushion more but add thickness, which can tip a parcel into a larger postage band, so we match the bubble size to the product. Metallic outers in silver, gold or rose tones are also available for brands that want the envelope itself to feel like part of the gift. Unpadded versions of the same poly outer are covered on our printed poly mailers for clothing page.
- Poly outer: waterproof, glossy, strong colour
- White paper outer: clean, crisp print
- Kraft paper outer: natural, handmade look
- Metallic poly outer: a gift-like finish with no extra wrapping

Sizing Bubble Mailers to Postage Bands
Postage is charged by size and thickness as well as weight, so sizing a mailer is partly about the product and partly about the post. A large letter can be up to 25 mm thick, and many small items fit within that if the mailer is chosen carefully. Measure the product in its inner packaging, add around 20 mm to the width and 30 to 40 mm to the length to allow for the bubble lining and the seal, and check the total thickness when it is closed.
If your range includes items of different sizes, two or three mailer sizes usually cover everything. Ordering one size for every product wastes money on postage for the small items and squeezes the large ones. We can suggest sizes if you send us your best-selling products and their measurements.
Printing Your Brand on the Outside
The front of a bubble mailer has a large flat area that works like a billboard on the doormat. Many brands print a full-colour logo or pattern across the whole surface and leave a clear zone for the address label. Others keep the front plain and print a message on the back, such as a thank you or a social handle, so the branding feels like a surprise when the parcel is turned over.
Remember that couriers and postal staff need to read the label quickly. Keep the label area light in colour and free of busy patterns, and avoid printing anything that looks like a barcode or an address. Your free design proof will mark the label zone so you can plan around it.
Colour choice matters more on a mailer than on a box, because the envelope is seen at a glance and often in poor light on a doorstep. Strong, flat colours with a large logo are recognised instantly, while fine detail and small text get lost in the creases of a padded envelope. If you want a pattern, a bold repeat with plenty of contrast survives the bubble texture underneath far better than a delicate illustration.
Think about how the mailer looks when it is full, too. A slim product leaves the envelope flat and smooth, but a bulky one stretches the outer layer and can distort a logo placed near the edge. Centre important artwork on the flattest part of the face. Upload the logo through the free proof request and we will show it on the flattest part of the face.
Seals, Tear Strips and Returns
All our bubble mailers close with a peel-and-seal strip, which grips firmly and shows if someone has tried to open it. For a cleaner opening, a tear strip along one edge lets the customer open the mailer in one pull without scissors or a knife near the product. Brands that handle a lot of exchanges, such as fashion accessories or phone cases, can add a second adhesive strip so the customer can reuse the same mailer to send an item back.
These small features shape how customers feel about the order. An envelope that opens neatly and can be resealed for a return saves them hunting for packaging, and it makes your returns process smoother too. High-volume shops that want the same features in a plainer envelope use our e-commerce poly mailers.
Who Uses Branded Bubble Mailers
Jewellers send rings, necklaces and earrings in small gift boxes inside a bubble mailer, so the gift box stays pristine. Cosmetics brands post lipsticks, compacts and serums. Electronics accessory sellers ship cables, earbuds, chargers and cases. Musicians and record shops use them for cassettes and small merchandise, while craft sellers send pins, patches, prints and keyrings.
Subscription brands with slim monthly packs often find a printed bubble mailer gives them the unboxing moment of a box at a fraction of the postage. With the brand on the outside, the parcel is recognised on the doormat before it is opened. Glass and ceramics that outgrow a padded envelope move up to mailer boxes for fragile items.
Check the Closed Thickness Against the Large Letter Limit
The single most useful check before ordering is to put your product, in its inner box, inside a sample mailer, seal it and measure the thickness at the fattest point. Under 25 mm and it posts as a large letter and fits a letterbox; over, and the postage band jumps. Measure your two or three best sellers that way and the mailer sizes choose themselves.
Then pick poly or paper for the outer, mark a light label zone on the artwork, and tell us roughly how many you post a month. A custom quote comes back by email within one working day with prices from £0.25, and minimums quoted per job. The free proof shows the artwork with the label zone and seal strip marked. Production takes 4–7 working days after approval and tracked delivery to UK mainland addresses is free, taking 2–3 working days. Mailers that arrive damaged or with faulty seals are reprinted or refunded when reported within 10 days. Flat items that need no padding at all can go in printed card mailer envelopes from the same artwork.

Bubble Mailers Questions
What buyers ask before ordering bubble mailers.
Can a bubble mailer go through a letterbox?
Many can, if the total thickness stays within the large letter limit. We size the mailer to your product so it stays as slim as possible.
Is a bubble mailer enough for glass bottles?
For small glass items in their own carton it often is, but heavier or very delicate glass is safer in a box. Tell us what you send and we will advise honestly.
Should I choose a poly or paper outer?
Poly is waterproof and takes bright colour. Paper has a softer, natural look and suits jewellery and stationery. Both have the same bubble lining inside.
Where does the address label go?
We mark a light, clear label zone on your design so couriers can read the address easily. Your proof shows exactly where it sits.
Does the second return seal add thickness to a large letter mailer?
No. The extra adhesive strip sits under the flap and adds nothing measurable, so a mailer that posts as a large letter still does with the return seal fitted. The customer peels the second strip, folds the flap and posts the item back in the same envelope.
How do I choose the right size for earrings in a gift box?
Measure the gift box, then add about 20 mm to the width and 30 to 40 mm to the length. A 120 x 180 mm mailer suits most small jewellery boxes.
Will a full-colour print on the back show through a white poly outer?
No, the poly layer is opaque, so a bold back print stays hidden from the front. On a white paper outer a very dark back print can ghost faintly, so we keep heavy solids to the front on paper mailers. Both sides appear on the proof.
Do you offer metallic bubble mailers?
Yes, metallic outers in silver, gold and rose tones are available and can carry a printed logo. A one-colour logo reads best on metallic, as full-colour photographs lose contrast.
How much do custom bubble mailers cost?
Prices start from £0.25 depending on size, outer layer and print. We price custom bubble mailers by email, usually within one working day.
How long until the mailers reach me?
Production takes 4–7 working days after proof approval, followed by free tracked UK mainland delivery in 2–3 working days. They arrive flat in cartons, so a monthly run takes little storage.
What if the seal strips do not stick?
Report any faulty or damaged mailers within 10 days and we will reprint or refund them. Seal strips keep their grip longest when the cartons are stored away from heat and dust.
