Custom Snack Pillow Boxes

from £0.25 a boxPriced per job · low minimums

Custom snack pillow boxes are small curved cartons that fold from flat into a soft pillow shape that takes a handful of sweets, nuts, cookies or popcorn. Event planners, party hosts and snack brands use them because they look like a little gift yet cost very little to fill and hand out.

Why the Pillow Shape Works for Snacks

A pillow box has no flat lid and no corners on its ends. Instead, both ends are curved flaps that press inwards and lock closed against each other. The result is a box with a gentle bulge in the middle and tapered ends, which happens to hold loose snacks surprisingly well. Small items settle into the widest part, and the curved flaps keep everything in without tape or glue.

It is also one of the quickest boxes to assemble. Fold along the curved scores, push in one end, fill it, push in the other end, and it is done. For a wedding with a hundred guests or a corporate event with several hundred attendees, that speed matters. Volunteers can fill and close favours at a table without any training.

Because the box arrives flat, a large quantity fits in a small carton. That makes it easy to post to a venue or keep in a cupboard until the day. Where the snack is a single-serve cereal portion, the mini cereal boxes with a tuck top suit hotels better than a pillow.

Snacks and Treats That Fit

Pillow boxes suit anything small and fairly light. Wrapped sweets, jelly beans, sugared almonds, chocolate coins, mini pretzels, salted nuts, dried fruit, popcorn and two or three small cookies all work well. Heavier items such as fudge squares fit too, as long as the box is not overfilled.

For unwrapped food, place the snack in a small clear bag or a glassine pouch before it goes into the box. It keeps grease and crumbs away from the board, stops sweets sticking to each other and lets you tie the bag with ribbon for a nicer reveal. Food-contact grade board is available on request if you want loose snacks directly in the box. Popcorn in larger portions is better served from the cinema popcorn boxes with an open top, which hold a full scoop.

Choosing a Size for the Portion

Pillow boxes are described by length, width and the depth at the centre when folded. A small box around 90 x 60 mm with 20 mm depth holds a dozen jelly sweets or two sugared almonds per guest. A medium box near 130 x 80 mm with 30 mm depth takes a generous handful of popcorn or mixed nuts. Larger pillows around 180 x 100 mm suit cookies, small biscuits or a mix of treats.

Think about portion and budget together. A box that looks half empty disappoints, and a box that is too small for the snack causes flaps to pop open. Fill a plain sample with the actual snack before ordering printed stock, and adjust the size if the ends do not close cleanly.

Remember the curve. The box is deepest in the middle and very shallow at the ends, so rigid items such as a long biscuit need more length than their measurements suggest. Dried fruit and nut brands that sell a 50 g portion through delis often move to dried fruit boxes with a window once the portion grows.

Board, Kraft and Colour Choices

Most snack pillow boxes are made from folding board around 300 to 350 gsm. That weight is stiff enough to hold the curve but bends easily along the scores. White board is the best base for full colour designs, while kraft board gives a rustic look that suits weddings, farm shops and natural snack brands.

Coloured boards, metallic papers and textured stocks are available for special events. A pearlescent finish for a wedding or a bright metallic for a product launch can turn a simple shape into something guests keep. Matt and gloss laminates protect print from greasy fingers, and a soft-touch laminate adds a velvety feel that works well on dark colours.

If you are handing boxes out at an outdoor event, choose a laminated finish. Light drizzle or a damp table will mark uncoated board quickly, and a laminate keeps the box looking fresh until guests take it home.

Designs That Suit a Curved Surface

The front and back of the pillow are slightly curved, so artwork works best when it is centred and kept away from the curved ends. A name, a date, a logo or a short message reads well. Large photographs can look distorted where the board bends, so keep any images in the flatter middle area.

For weddings, initials and the date are a classic choice, sometimes with a short line of thanks. For corporate events, the company logo and an event hashtag are common. Snack brands often print the product name, flavour and ingredients on the back panel. A small window cut into the front lets guests see the colourful sweets inside, which works especially well with jelly beans and mixed candy.

Ribbon looks lovely tied around the middle, though it does add time to packing. The free proof shown on the pillow dieline marks the curved scores so you can see where the artwork bends.

Planning Favours for a Big Event

Order a few more boxes than you have guests. Some will be used for testing, a few will crease while being filled, and someone will always ask for an extra. Ten percent spare is a sensible margin.

Fill boxes the day before an event if the snacks are wrapped, or on the morning if they are fresh. Store filled boxes flat in a shallow tray rather than piled high, so the curves do not get crushed. If guests are taking favours home, a small sticker on each box saying what is inside helps anyone with allergies.

Set up a simple filling line with three people: one folding boxes open, one adding the snack, one closing the ends and placing them on a tray. A team like that can work through a large wedding order in an afternoon. Snack brands handing out samples at a trade show often fill boxes on site, so pack the flat boxes, the snacks and a few trays in the same car and leave the filling until the stand is built. Caterers who order favours for several events a year keep a note of the sizes from our snack and popcorn packaging range so reorders match.

Weigh the Portion and Pick the Depth From It

A pillow box is chosen by depth more than by length. Weigh the portion you intend to give, 30 g of sugared almonds, 40 g of popcorn, three wrapped chocolates, and pour it into a small bag so you can see its bulk; then compare that with the centre depth of each size, since a pillow is deepest in the middle and nearly flat at the ends. A 20 mm box takes a flat handful, a 30 mm box takes a rounded one. Order spares at the same time, around one in ten, and if guests will take the box home with popcorn still in it, a bag inside keeps grease off the card. The sweet favour boxes with a ribbon tie are sized the same way.

Keep artwork in the centre of the front face, clear of the curved scores, with names set at 8 pt or larger. Email the size, board, quantity and artwork and a custom quote comes back within one working day, followed by a free design proof. Boxes are made in 4 to 7 working days after approval and arrive flat, free and tracked, on the UK mainland in 2 to 3 days. Creased or misprinted boxes reported within 10 days are reprinted or refunded.

Snack Pillow Boxes Questions

What buyers ask before ordering snack pillow boxes.

Do snack pillow boxes need glue to close?

No. The curved end flaps press inwards and hold each other closed. The side seam is glued at the factory, so you only fold and fill.

Can I put popcorn straight into the box?

Many people use an inner glassine bag to keep butter and salt off the board. Food-contact grade board is available on request if you want popcorn directly in the box.

Which size holds a portion of sugared almonds?

A mini box around 90 x 60 x 20 mm holds the traditional five almonds comfortably. Larger sweets or extra portions need the next size up.

Can every box be personalised with a guest name?

Personalised names are possible with digital print. Send a list of names in a spreadsheet and we will set up the artwork. It is quoted separately from a single design run.

Will photos print well on a pillow box?

Photos work if kept in the flatter centre of the box. Near the curved ends, images can look stretched, so we mark a safe area on the proof.

Can I add a window to show the sweets?

Yes. A die-cut window, open or with clear film, works well with brightly coloured sweets and jelly beans.

Are kraft pillow boxes suitable for weddings?

Very much so. Kraft gives a natural, rustic look that pairs well with twine, dried flowers and simple black or white print.

How many spare boxes should I order for an event?

Around ten percent extra covers testing, the odd creased box and last-minute guests. Ordering spares at the same time is cheaper than a second small run.

Can snack brands use pillow boxes for retail?

Yes. With a hang hole or display tray they work for impulse buys at a till. Ingredients and allergy details fit on the back panel.

When should I order favour boxes for a wedding date?

Allow time for proofing, then 4 to 7 working days for production and 2 to 3 working days for free tracked delivery. Ordering a few weeks ahead leaves room for checking names and dates calmly.
