The Cup Beside the Water Cooler

Almost every workplace, gym and waiting room has a water cooler, and next to it sits a tube of cone cups. People take one, fill it, drink and throw it away, often several times a day. The cone shape is deliberate: it nests tightly so a long sleeve fits inside a slim dispenser, it needs very little paper and it encourages people to drink and dispose of the cup rather than leaving it half full on a desk.

Because the cup cannot stand on its own, it rarely ends up abandoned on surfaces. That keeps shared spaces tidier than flat-bottomed cups, which is one reason facilities managers prefer cones for busy areas.

A plain white cone does its job well enough. A printed one does the same job and also carries your name, which suits businesses that care about how their reception or members' area feels to visitors.

Cone cups also help with hygiene. Each person takes a fresh cup from a closed tube, and nobody touches the cups below it, which is why clinics, dental surgeries and food businesses tend to prefer them over open stacks of cups. Other disposable cups for events and cafés sit in our full cups and cones range.

Why Brand Paper Cone Cups

A water cooler is one of the few places where staff, visitors and customers all stop for a moment. A logo on the cup is seen up close, in the hand, at eye level. For a gym, it reinforces the brand during every workout. For a clinic or a dental practice, it adds a considered touch to the waiting room. For an office, it makes client visits feel a little more polished.

Printed cones are also popular at events. Exhibitions, conferences, charity runs and outdoor festivals with water stations hand out large numbers of cups, and each one carries a sponsor's logo or the event name.

Branded cups are a small, steady presence rather than a loud advert. That suits professional settings where a poster might feel out of place. Businesses that serve hot drinks too can carry the same branding onto custom printed paper cups.

Sizes and Dispenser Fit

Cone cups must match the dispenser. Most standard dispensers take cones with a rim diameter around 70 mm to 80 mm and a capacity of roughly 100 ml to 140 ml. Before ordering, measure the inside of your dispenser tube and check the size printed on any cups you currently use.

Smaller cones suit tasting stations, medicine cups in clinics and sample servings at food shows. Larger cones suit sports events and hot weather, when people drink more in one go.

We can match the shape of the cups you use now so they slide into your existing dispensers without any changes. If you are buying new dispensers, tell us which model and we size the cups to it.

Storage space is worth checking as well. Cone cups ship in sleeves inside cartons, and because they nest so tightly, a carton holds a lot of cups in very little space. A small office store cupboard can usually hold several months of supply without trouble. For samples rather than water, small 3 oz tasting cups stand upright on a tray.

  • Small cones for tastings and sample servings
  • Standard cones for office and gym water coolers
  • Large cones for sports events and outdoor water stations
  • Flat-top folded cones for vending machines
  • Matching sizes for existing dispensers

Paper and Water Resistance

Cone cups are made from paper with a water-resistant treatment on the inside so they hold chilled water without going soft while someone drinks. The paper is thin and light, which keeps the sleeve compact and the cost per cup low. Food-contact grade paper is available on request.

Cone cups are designed for cold water. They are not suited to hot drinks, which need a double-walled or insulated cup with a flat base.

White paper is standard because it shows printed colours clearly and looks clean beside a water cooler. Coloured paper is also possible if your brand uses a strong colour you would like on the whole cup. Our overview of paper and board stocks explains the coated and uncoated options.

Printing on a Cone

A cone is narrow at the tip and wide at the rim, so artwork is printed on a flat curved shape before the cone is formed. The design needs to follow that curve. A logo repeated around the upper half of the cone, where the surface is widest, reads best. Small text near the tip becomes distorted and hard to read.

One or two colour printing keeps the cost low and suits most logos. A simple repeat pattern in a brand colour can look attractive in a clear dispenser tube, where the stacked cones show their print.

Avoid printing very close to the rim, where lips touch the cup. We position the design a little below the edge.

Think about the colour of your dispenser too. In a clear tube, the print on the cones is visible from across the room, so a bold brand colour works well. In a solid white or steel dispenser, only the top cup is seen, so a simple logo near the rim is enough. For ice cream rather than water, printed paper cone sleeves take the same kind of artwork.

Who Orders Printed Water Cones

Offices and co-working spaces, gyms and leisure centres, dental and medical practices, beauty salons, car dealerships and showrooms, hotels, schools and universities, event organisers and water cooler suppliers who offer branded cups to their clients all use them.

Water cooler rental companies sometimes print cones with their own branding and a reorder number, so the cup also reminds clients who to call for refills.

Golf clubs, tennis clubs and sports grounds place cone dispensers at water stations beside courts and courses, where a printed cup carries the club's crest. Physiotherapy clinics and opticians use them in treatment and waiting rooms for the same tidy, branded look. Juice bars and gyms serving blended drinks tend to order printed juice cups for cold drinks.

Paper Cone Cups Questions

What buyers ask before ordering paper cone cups.

Will your cone cups fit my existing dispenser?

We can match the rim diameter and length of your current cups. Send a sample cup or your dispenser model and we size them to fit.

Can paper cone cups be used for hot drinks?

No, cone cups are designed for chilled water. Hot drinks need an insulated cup with a flat base.

Why are water cooler cups cone-shaped?

Cones nest tightly in a slim dispenser, use little paper and cannot be left standing on desks, which keeps shared areas tidier.

Where does the logo go on a cone?

On the upper, wider half of the cone, where it reads clearly. Text near the tip distorts and is hard to read.

Do the cups go soggy?

The inside is treated to resist water, so the cup stays firm while someone drinks.

Can I print a repeat pattern instead of a single logo?

Yes, a repeating logo or pattern looks attractive when cones are stacked in a clear dispenser tube.

Are printed cones good for events?

Yes, water stations at runs, festivals and conferences use large numbers of cups, and each one can carry a sponsor or event logo.

Can I order coloured paper cones?

Yes, coloured paper is available if your brand colour should cover the whole cup.

How are the cups packed?

They are packed in sleeves that load straight into the dispenser, then boxed in cartons for storage.

Can water cooler suppliers order cups for clients?

Yes, suppliers often order cones branded with their own name and reorder number, or with each client's logo.

How soon can branded cones reach my office?

After you approve the free proof, production takes 4 to 7 working days, and free tracked UK mainland delivery takes 2 to 3 working days.
