Custom End-Opening Mailer Boxes
Custom end-opening mailer boxes open from the short end rather than the top, so slim products slide out like a drawer from a sleeve. We make them in printed corrugated board sized to your product, with tear strips and peel-and-seal closures, and send a free proof first.

How an End-Opening Mailer Works, and Who Uses One
Most mailer boxes open from the top, with a hinged lid that lifts to reveal everything at once. An end-opening mailer turns that around. The box is long and slim, and one or both short ends tuck or seal shut. To open it, the customer pulls a tear strip or lifts the end flap and slides the contents out lengthways.
That makes it ideal for products that are long, flat or narrow: a skincare tube set, a book, a phone case, a hair straightener, a candle in a slim box, a set of brushes or a rolled print. These items would rattle around in a deep top-opening mailer, but they fit an end-opener snugly with little wasted space.
Less empty space means less void fill and often a smaller postage size. A slim end-opening mailer can sometimes travel as a large letter or small parcel rather than a bulkier parcel, which adds up quickly for an online shop sending orders every day.
Skincare and cosmetics brands use them for tubes, serums and slim gift sets. Publishers and bookshops use them for single books, and print sellers use them for flat or rolled artwork. Tech accessory brands send phone cases, cables and chargers in them, and haircare brands use them for straighteners and curling wands.
Fashion brands use end-openers for ties, socks, belts and folded accessories, while subscription services use them for slim monthly boxes that fit through more letterboxes.
Closures That Suit Online Orders
How the box closes affects both packing speed and the customer's experience when it arrives.
Many shops combine a peel-and-seal strip with a tear strip, which gives a fast, secure close in the warehouse and an easy, satisfying open at the customer's door. Shops that pack from the top instead use tuck top mailer boxes with locking tabs.
- Tuck end: a simple flap tucks into the box, quick to pack and reusable for returns.
- Peel-and-seal: a strip of adhesive under a release liner seals the end in one step without tape.
- Tear strip: a perforated or reinforced strip that the customer pulls to open the box cleanly.
- Double seal: two adhesive strips, one for sending and one for returns, popular with fashion brands.
- Both ends closing: suits long items that need to slide out from either end.

Board Grades for End-Opening Mailer Boxes
End-opening mailers are usually made from corrugated board, which gives the strength to survive sorting machines and stacked delivery vans. A thin E-flute gives a smooth printing surface and a slim profile, which suits cosmetics, books and small electronics. A thicker B-flute or a double-wall board protects heavier or more fragile items, such as glass bottles or small homeware.
The outer liner can be white or brown kraft. White gives bright colour print and a polished look. We can print the outside, the inside or both, depending on the impression you want to make.
For very light, flat items such as prints or cards, a rigid folding board version without corrugation can be enough, keeping weight and cost down.
Printing for the Doorstep and the Unboxing
A mailer is seen twice: once on the doorstep and again when it is opened. The outside should carry your logo clearly and make the parcel recognisable, but many brands keep it quite simple for security, avoiding anything that shouts about valuable contents. The real reveal happens inside.
Printing the inside of an end-opener is particularly effective, because the customer sees the printed interior as the contents slide out. A pattern, a thank-you message or a short note about the product makes the moment feel considered without needing extra inserts.
If your products vary, a branded mailer in a few standard sizes keeps packing simple. Product-specific information can go on a printed insert or sticker rather than a different box for every item.
Speeding Up Packing in a Small Warehouse
For a busy online shop, the real cost of a mailer is not just the box price but the minutes spent packing it. End-openers are quick because the product slides in from one end and the box seals with a single strip, rather than folding a lid, adding void fill and taping several edges. Over a day of orders, those saved seconds add up to hours.
Keep a few habits in mind to make the most of it. Fold a batch of boxes before orders come in, leaving only the sealing end open. Store them on their side so staff can grab one and slide a product straight in. If you use a printed insert or thank-you card, keep it the same width as the box so it slides in alongside the product without catching.
Returns are part of packing too. A double-seal end-opener lets customers reuse the same box, which cuts down on lost returns and the cost of sending replacement packaging.
Measuring for a Snug Fit
Measure the product or its retail box at the longest, widest and deepest points. Add a small allowance for board thickness and an easy slide, but not so much that the item moves around. If you send products in their own retail cartons, measure the carton rather than the product.
Think about postage sizes too. Many couriers and postal services price by size bands, and a few millimetres can move a parcel into a more expensive band. If you tell us your target postage size, we will aim to keep the outside dimensions within it.
If you have several products, list them and their sizes. Two or three mailer sizes often cover a whole range, which keeps ordering and storage straightforward.
A quick test with an old box cut to size can save surprises: if the product slides in with a finger's push and does not fall out when the box is tipped, the fit is right.
Turnaround and Delivery
Once we have your sizes and quantities, we will email a custom quote within one working day. Minimums stay low and depend on the job, with plain end-openers starting from £0.25 each.

End-Opening Mailer Boxes Questions
What buyers ask before ordering End-Opening mailer boxes.
When is an end-opening mailer better than a top-opening one?
For long, slim products, an end-opener fits more snugly and wastes less space. That means less void fill and sometimes a cheaper postage size.
Can the box be resealed for returns?
Yes, a double seal design has a second adhesive strip for returns, so customers can send items back in the same box.
How does the tear strip work?
A reinforced strip runs across the end of the box. The customer pulls it to open the box neatly without scissors.
Will an end-opening mailer fit through a letterbox?
Slim versions often can, depending on the final size. Tell us your target postage size and we will design to it.
Can you print inside the box?
Yes, inside printing is especially effective on end-openers because customers see it as the product slides out.
Which board is best for glass products?
For glass bottles or jars, use a thicker B-flute or double-wall board, ideally with a card insert to hold the item still.
Can I use one mailer size for several products?
Many brands use two or three sizes to cover a full range, using inserts or tissue to fill small gaps.
Are the boxes delivered flat?
Yes, they arrive flat and fold into shape quickly. Peel-and-seal versions need no tape at all.
Can I order kraft boxes with white print?
Yes, white ink on kraft gives a clean, modern look. We will show it on your proof so you can judge the effect.
Do you make end-openers for books?
Yes, book mailers are one of the most common uses. We size them to the book's dimensions with a little room for protective wrap.
What if some mailers arrive crushed?
Report any damage or misprint within 10 days with a photo, and we will reprint or refund the affected boxes.
