Custom Football Boxes
Custom football boxes give a match ball, a signed ball or a junior training ball the presentation it deserves on a shop shelf or as a gift. We build the box around the ball's size, print it in your club or brand colours and send a free proof first.

Packaging Built Around a Sphere
A football is a simple shape but a tricky one to package well. It rolls, it can be inflated or deflated, and a size 5 match ball is bulky enough that a weak box will bow out at the sides or crush at the corners when stacked. A purpose-made box holds the ball centrally, keeps the panels square and gives you six flat faces to print on.
Most sports retailers sell footballs loose in cages or on shelves, which works for budget balls but does nothing for a premium one. Put the same ball in a printed box and it becomes a gift people buy for a birthday, a team award or a mascot prize. That change in perception is why brands, clubs and academies order boxed balls even when they also sell them loose.
A box also protects the ball's finish. Printed panels and glossy outer layers scuff easily, and a ball that has rubbed against others in a cage looks second-hand before it has been kicked. Smaller balls sold in sleeves or tubes are covered on our golf ball boxes and sleeves page, which uses the same cradle idea.
Choosing a Style of Football Box
The right style depends on whether the ball is sold inflated, shipped deflated or presented as a keepsake.
Each style can be scaled for size 3, 4 or 5 balls, and we can make a matching smaller box for mini skills balls if you sell a range.
- Cube box with tuck ends: the simplest option for an inflated ball, with all six sides printable.
- Cube with front window: shows the ball's design, useful for licensed or club-branded balls.
- Display box with circular cut-out: a die-cut opening lets customers touch the ball while it stays boxed.
- Flat box for deflated balls: much smaller and cheaper to post, with the ball folded and a pump needle packed beside it.
- Rigid presentation box: a lift-off lid and a cradle insert for signed balls, awards and memorabilia.

Inserts That Stop the Ball Moving
A round object in a square box will rattle unless something holds it. The neatest solution is a pair of card cradles, one at the top and one at the bottom, each with a circular cut-out slightly smaller than the ball. They grip it at the poles and keep it centred, and they also brace the box corners so it can be stacked several high in a stockroom.
For rigid presentation boxes, a foam or card cradle with a fabric-lined dip gives a signed ball a proper resting place. Add a slot in the lid or base for a signed authenticity card or a team photo and the box becomes a display piece in its own right.
Deflated ball boxes are different again. Here we often add a small card compartment for a needle and a short instruction card, so the customer has everything they need to inflate it on day one. The lined cradle is the same build we use for rigid sports boxes for memorabilia.
Printing Football Boxes in Club and Brand Colours
Football is a game of colours, and customers notice when a shade is wrong. We print to your colour references and show them on the proof so you can check before production. Full colour print works for photographic designs showing players or stadiums, while one or two strong spot colours suit a bold club crest on a plain background.
Use all six faces. A large logo on the front, the ball size and model on the sides, and a short story or care guide on the back give the box shelf appeal from any angle. A matt finish keeps glare down under shop lighting, and a foil crest or embossed logo adds weight to gift and award boxes.
If you hold licences for a club or competition, you supply the approved artwork and we print what you approve. We will flag anything that looks low resolution so it stays sharp at full size.
Clubs, Academies and Retailers
Sports brands use printed boxes to launch new ball models and to sell into gift shops and department stores where a loose ball would look out of place. Grassroots clubs and academies use them for end-of-season awards, sponsor gifts and club shop sales, often with a player's name or the season's motto on the side.
Event organisers order them for tournament prizes and corporate hospitality, and promotional firms supply branded balls in boxes for staff and client giveaways. Collectors and memorabilia dealers use rigid boxes for signed balls, where the packaging needs to protect a valuable item and look good on a shelf at home.
Selling Boxed Balls Online and in Club Shops
Boxed footballs behave differently online and in a shop, so it helps to plan for both. In a club shop, the box is a display: it needs a strong front, a clear size marking and something that tells a parent which age group the ball suits. A small panel with simple size and age guidance saves staff from answering the same question all afternoon.
Online, the box is mostly seen in a product photo and then when the parcel is opened. A clean front face with your logo photographs well against a white background, and an inside print on the lid flap, such as a thank-you line or a matchday slogan, gives the buyer a small surprise when they open it.
If you post inflated balls in their retail boxes, put each one inside a plain shipping carton so the printed box arrives unmarked. A deflated ball in a flat box can often go straight into a padded mailer, which keeps postage down. Either way, tape the tuck flaps or use a tamper sticker so the box cannot open in transit, and ask us for a matching outer box if you would like the whole parcel to carry your brand.
Measure Your Own Ball, Inflated to Match Pressure
Ball diameters differ between makes by more than you would expect, so measure the actual ball you will box, pumped to the pressure it is sold at, rather than relying on the nominal size. A size 5 is roughly 220 mm, a size 4 around 205 mm and a size 3 about 190 mm, and we add a few millimetres on every side plus room for the top and bottom cradles. If balls are posted, decide now between an inflated cube and a flat box for a deflated ball with a needle compartment, because the two are quoted as different jobs.
Send the ball model or measurement, the style, the quantity and your colour references, and a custom quote comes back by email within one working day, with simple styles from £0.25 and minimums quoted per job. The free proof shows the crest colours on all six faces, so check them against a physical reference. Production takes 4–7 working days after approval and tracked delivery to UK mainland addresses is free, taking 2–3 working days. Misprinted or damaged boxes reported within 10 days are reprinted or refunded. Clubs that run a basketball section can order basketball boxes in the same colours alongside.

Football Boxes Questions
What buyers ask before ordering football boxes.
Which ball sizes do your football boxes fit?
We make boxes for sizes 1, 3, 4 and 5, and for futsal balls. Because ball diameters vary slightly between makes, we size the box to your ball rather than a generic figure.
Can I sell a ball deflated in a smaller box?
Yes. A flat box for a deflated ball is much cheaper to store and post. We can add a small compartment for a needle so the buyer can inflate it straight away.
How do you stop the ball rolling inside the box?
We use card cradles at the top and bottom with circular cut-outs that grip the ball. They keep it centred and also make the box strong enough to stack.
Can customers touch the ball without opening the box?
A display box with a large circular cut-out does exactly that. The ball sits in place while shoppers can feel the panels and texture.
Can you match our club colours exactly?
Send us your colour references and we will print to them and show the colours on your proof. Colours can vary slightly between screen and board, so a physical reference is helpful if accuracy is critical.
Do you make boxes for signed footballs?
Yes. A rigid box with a cradle insert and lift-off lid protects a signed ball and doubles as a display piece. We can add a slot for an authenticity card.
Can each box carry a different player name?
We can print variable names or numbers on the side panel for award or squad boxes. Tell us the list when you request a quote.
Are the boxes strong enough to stack in a stockroom?
With cradle inserts and a suitable board, yes. If stacking will be very high, we may suggest corrugated board for extra strength.
Can I print a care guide on the box?
Yes, the back or a side panel is ideal for inflation pressure, cleaning and storage advice. Keep the text short and clear so it is easy to read.
Do football boxes arrive flat or assembled?
Folding styles arrive flat and assemble quickly. Rigid presentation boxes arrive made up, as they cannot be folded flat.
How quickly can boxes be ready for an awards night?
After you approve the proof, production takes 4–7 working days and free tracked delivery to UK mainland addresses takes 2–3 working days. Build that time into your event plan.
